I have heard Kraus singing the Duke and this guy here sounds more like Alvin or one of the Chipmunks compared to Alfredo Kraus. Kraus had a big voice, Florez' voice is much too small for Verdi. For any Verdi.
That was what I kinda was thinking, although not quite so "demonstratively". I have never had the pleasure to hear Kraus from an auditorium, but have been on stage with him many times and thought he had a much fuller sound and more colors at his disposal than Florez, whom I have heard in person from an auditorium. But I could have been wrong. I think JDF may just be trying to expand and develope the voice with the Duke. But when a singer is so amazing in one rep, why be just "ok" in another?
lucky you if you have been with kraus, i think you have been blessed by god if you shared stage or seen him closely.
I really envy you my friend, It is a dream that will never come true to me, i am only 26 years old and as we all know kraus died in 1999, I was a living in an abbey by the time he died and never had the chance even to sing him singing however he was the humblest and in his rep, the best.
Thanks for publishing the above, I agree with you and I heard Kraus several times, never, regretfully in Rigoletto, (Faust, Lucia 2,Werther 2, Romeo 3, Hoffmann, Puritani 1 (1974), Figlia, Marina 2. Best all around including elegance..Muso

A madurar Flórez, rol prematuro.

OMG I just watched it again. If this is considered good singing, opera is indeed dying.

That is very true. Maybe he got bored singing La fille du regiment non stop... Anyway, he is no Duca.
