'When I Close My Eyes' is a track that i would have loved ABBA to record and it would have been brilliant to hear Agnetha & Frida sing together. I can just imagine it now listen to this song with your eyes closed and imagine that Agnetha & Frida are singing it.
Would you name this a popsong? Cause if so, it wouldn´t be right to call "Story Of A Heart" the first B&B pop-composition since the album "Shapes" with Josefin Nilsson, as this song was created in 2005.
It is a real highlight on the Album "Det Bästa Med Karin Och Anders Glenmark".
Really beautiful and leaving the listener wanting to hear more.
I´ve never heard of this song until I got a copy of the CD "Det Bästa Med Karin Och Anders Glenmark".
So it was really used in Chess before? Because it doesn´t appear on the Double-LP. I know that B&B wrote more songs that weren´t used in the musical (Like "Someone Else´s Story"), but I really never heard that this one belongs to it.Therefore I thought this one to be new done in 2005.
It was in the stage show, and has been in subsequent albums since. Bear in mind that the 1984 double LP was just a concept album, the whole score came when the stage show opened.
It's on the album which contains Someone Elese's Story in 1988, and it's also on the CHESS album released this month (amonst others)
Thank you for the information and sorry I´m replying late.
I´ll take a look around to get a copy of a CHESS-album which includes this song as I can´t find any version on youtube except the one we can see here.
It's not on the current Chess album, but it's on the Broadway production recording, but they used the tune in a differet part of the production than they did in the London or Swedish show.
In the London production it was sung as a finale, just after You And I (sung by Walter and Florence). The melody has now been removed from the 2008 London version and they just "speak" the lyrics instead.
In the Broadway production (which is the most prominent use of the melody) it was called Lullaby and is sung by Florence and her (fake) father.
In teh Swedish production it is sung by Florence to Anatoly.
If you join me on Facebook, I have a clip on an amatuer show.
Beautiful melody. No doubt about it. But I think there is something bleak about it. The voices are too strong in a hard way. Lacks some sensitivity. And the production lacks the "sparkle" that always were shining bright in the ABBA records. Ståle, Oslo
An Abba version of 'Where the whales have seased to sing' in a 'Fernando' video style, would have been a BIG worldwide hit, and a great one for makong a comeback in 1992, but..:))fantasies are just fantasies. Cheers.
Oh, sorry, I didn't mean to offend 'Gemini', of course they sang these songs very well; What I was saying with my 'virtual ABBA' comment was: it would be fun to imagine (I'm sure the hard core Abba fans would like this too) or to have a chance hear how would have ABBA sounded, if they recorded these songs back in mid 80's in case they(ABBA) didn't break up in 1983. Also, this would apply for all B&B songs after ABBA (Josefin, Benny solo, Kristina), which can be a golden virtual ABBA potential.
Hopefully one day the scientists will invent a comp. program which will simulate Agnetha's and Frida's voice to be put on all these great post-ABBA hits. The virtual ABBA will be born, all the fantasies of the fans fulfilled, and if used commercialy,-a new series of worldwide top 10 ABBA hits is very possible. :)) sounds too fantastic, but you never know. Cheers.
Yes you're right, its recorded in 2005. Or maybe its only remastered in 2005, but I have the album and the booklet is saying that this song is recorded in 2005.
Written during the sessions for Chess, considered for Gemini, but surfacing in the US staging of Chess as 'Lullaby'. Finally recorded with Gemini for their 2005 'Best Of' :)

Well, this song was written in 1984 and used in CHESS in 1986, so it was a long time before SHAPES and Story Of A Heart!

The tune is heard on the Swedish DVD.

And which character sings it? While reading the lyrics I would say Florence or Svetlana.
Which cast did the 1988 recording or from which country is it? Is this the Broadway recording?
Thank you again for all the information.

Amazing chorus! God bless B&B for all the miraculous songs they've given to the world. Listen to the guitar at the end of the song... Pure magic!

These are melodies that were originally included in the original stage version of CHESS.
The verse uses the melody 'So in the end our hero won....' from the finale (after You and I) which leads into Florence's 'Anthem' reprise
The chorus is a rehash of the melody that turned into the Broadway version's 'Apukad eros Kerzen' (Lullaby)
Interesting to hear them reused in this way.

Guys, I have doubts it was recorded in 1984-85. Seems like it was recorded actually in 2005. Who knows the right answer?

Please... the lyrics.
"When I close my eyes tonight
you will fill my mind
in the silent darkness
you'll be shine and bright."
And the so????

This would fit more Agnetha's and Frida's voices.
