@CarsOfGaia "sandpapered into sweetness." Are you referring to Campfire Headphase? I'm so fucking sick of the Boards of Canadian fan herd hating on that record, saying that its diluted and lacks any depth, maybe it doesn't have that sinister "edge" the other records do but that wasn't the intent they decided to "Open The LIght" with this album. I think most people just haven't given it the time it deserves...It's fucking lush
@CarsOfGaia shut up you total idiot. You dont know what your talking about. these guys spend 3 months just on the sound of their hihat, so you cant call them muppets if they'd only be in peels studio for half a day and expect it to sound like the way it was intended. cunt!!!!
V.Nice! BOC just get cooler & cooler....RIP Jonh Peel as well...the music world owes him a huge debt. Wonder what sequencers, keyboards etc. they use???
I dunno about this track, but it always has sounded like they use a Roland SH-101 a lot, especially in their old tunes. See their song "Alpha Rainbow" for a good example. They also have a "secret weapon", as they refer to it, which gives them their signature sound....and unfortunately it's still a secret.
Ok, cool...I'm thinking that they sound like they apply a lot of filters to their sound, and probably analog filters at that: I wouldn't be surprised if they built their own 'black-boxes' a la Aphex Twin!
@GuitarSonata yeah I heard about that "secret weapon" before, thanks for the tip, whether it is part of it or not I always wondered what it was that helped give them their sound,I`m gonna check it out
The drum sample at the start of this radio-broadcast version (which is slightly cut off here) is from Pink Floyd's 'Heart Beat, Pig Meat'. I imagine that the blanket media license that the BBC owns meant that this version could only be broadcast live and never be released commercially
