this was propper nuts, scary shit i thought, can anyone send me the clip of when it shows what hes typing to her when he starts to flip and gets angry at her
i get that the woman wasn't a moral person but lbr, being a shitty person isn't a crime. she didn't do anything illegal, and the dudes she toyed with were mentally unstable. it's stupid that their actions are blames on the woman when in actual fact, if they're that easily 'manipulated' or get that obsessive then they already had issues.
@dimransee not a crime? Im sorry but i do think its a bit of a crime sending pictures of your own child in bikinis, short skirts etc. to random guys across the internet.
@xSmile4Lifex it's bad, don't get me wrong but in the end the dudes are responsible for their own actions - she can't be held accountable for what they did.
@dimransee Yeah i agree with their own actions cant be blamed on her but i think she is worse than shitty person and is pretty sick. She didnt even say sorry or seem to feel any remorse to having a part of another guys death
Further to my last comment: Has this female absolutely no conscience whatsoever?! She wants to write a fricking book! It's just a pity that she hasn't faced any charges. No,so she didn't kill young Barrett, but she damn well instigated this tragic event by her own selfish 'needs'. I hope she never gets her damn book published, but I suspect some sleazy publisher will take it on.That she can make money from this is just rubbing salt in the Barrett family's wounds.
@popazz1 You just said everything I wanted to.... But what an amazing film, very upsetting and weird at the same time but still very very interesting. It just goes to show the internet/world is full of fucked up people... More people need to see this without a doubt.
Yes,it was amazing,& it made for uncomfortable viewing, especially as it involved the internet,a medium we ALL hide behind at some point.I can't think of any other technology which is used to cause so much hurt and anger and intolerance.Yet the same technology has proven to be a most useful tool for education and entertainment. 'Talhotblonde' simply showed us what we usually conveniently forget, that it can be a means for evil acts.Shieler is a classic example of this.
It's in the last 10 minutes right now on C4 on UK tv & it's jaw-droppingly scarey stuff. It's difficult to not judge the mother who,to a major degree, set this tragedy in motion. To use her own daughter's identity to enact her fantasy is plain sick.It doesn't matter a bit how pathetic her life was as she perceived it.What she did was beyond reprehensible. Now,at the end of this fascinating docu-drama we're told Shieler wants to 'write a book about the dangers of the internet'! OMG,is she for real?!
As much as we would like to kill or inprison mary. She really didn't do anything that was unlawful. She lied, (big time) but never did she try to bring about bloodshed. The prison system is full of men who have acted foolishly as a result of being strung along by a woman. The only real victum was the your man who died. We know the whole story. He died not knowing the girl he wanted was imaginary.
I just watch this story on 20/20, the man (montgomery) who killed Brian Barrett should have gotten life... I can't believe that he would actually killed someone (over someone he had never even met !) Now the only part I have a bit of trouble with is Mary (the woman who lied about being a tallhotblonde) in 20/20 they seem to want her charged or held accountable, but if she was really the young girl in the picture - would it be the same ?
having seen this film, and more recently viewing "catfish" - i'm offended at the latter film's lack of sensitivity to the truths of such 'catfish' as depicted in Talhotblond, not to mention the cheap and shameless marketing and deplorable closing 'message'. If anybody reading this has heard of Catfish - AVOID - it's Talhotblond, only the poorly assembled fiction version.
@beansaregood While I agree that Talhotblond is a excellent film, and eary cautionary story of how sad and tangled up people can become. I think it's unfair of you to tear Catfish apart. I don't know the full legitimacy of the film and im not sure anyone will. But it is also a great cautionary tale that also shows how sad the lives of these kinds of people can be. And what drives them to do what they do. Take into account the message of Catfish. Like I said Talhotblond is an amazing documentary,
@TinFins2021 - I really think both of them show poor taste, but that Catfish crosses the line. You don't know the full legitimacy of 'Catfish'- here you go- it's as real as Cloverfield. You think it's a cautionary tale, yet you still empathize with the exact kind of character that we see in Talhotblonde - someone capable/responsible for a pointless murder. I get that Catfish could have a message- but, because the filmmakers are selfish untalented liars themselves, morality is lost.
having seen this film, and more recently viewing "catfish" - i'm offended at the latter film's lack of sensitivity to the truths of such 'catfish' as depicted in Talhotblond, not to mention the cheap and shameless marketing and deplorable closing 'message'. I blame the people before I blame the internet. The web is just a tool, and like any tool, in the wrong hands it can do harm. The people involevd here were genuinely sick and using the web as a means of escaping their real lives-an addiction every bit as powerful as drugs or alcohol. A healthy person uses the web to communicate and entertain. The sad truth is there are some sick people out there, and that is why you do have to be on gaurd for them.
@MofoNsh not at all. You might think you know the ending, but there is a complete twist. Watch it, it'll make you a lot more aware of whats going on on the internet. I mean it creeped the living shit out of me.
@EthioArsonist like i said kid ,sweet emotions video.how could u do that to ur child was mentioned in the trailer. pay attention i did.u see stories tend to follow a traditional structure.i started in grade school reading urban legends.ive heard them all .but thanks for your concern.
i cant believe that something like that is possible, i saw it on TV. Please how can something like that possible? married people with children? oh my goodness.
You may think you are clever enough to sense it when someone on the internet is lying, but in fact you NEVER know. Ages ago I was chatting with somene for two years, who I believed was a 34 year old deputy and who turned out being a 60 year old retired police officer with four kids who was just bored and frustrated like heck. There was no love or sex in the game, but something I thought what was a really good friendship. That was just so sick.
Watched the documentary, The turnout was HILARIOUS. I imagined his reaction, i was like good this fuck head learned fucking something. I would beat this fucker to death. But i am not gunna lie, no matter what internet dating was still pretty pathetic

just watched this documentry kind of sad just shows how sick ppl can be on the internet n getting manipulated so easy from all angles feel sorry for brian who got caught in the middle of two middle aged attention seekers who lied cause there life was shitty n ended up costing a life in the end n the shiela who is 46 (aka 18 year old jess ) shows no fukin remorse for wa she did !
I just finished watching it... waow i loved it but the story is really f*cked up i mean what kind of mother does that?!?! i hope jessi goes on with her life with happiness :) :) my love goes to Brians family :) :)

what was her mom like?? I just can't get over how sick and twisted she is...she should be in prison with Montgomery...I feel she is more responsible than he is. RIP Brian Barrett
ohkay so brian barretts younger brother richard is one of my best friends, and each year it gets harder and harder for him to deal with. the barrett family has to be one of the nicest families i know and it just sucks to see them go through this everyday. its not fair that bad things always happen to good people! i love you richard and the barrett family<3

why would that dumb fukin man shoot that kid for a girl he has never met? why would a cute waste her time online all the time with a old ass man...ppl r soo dumb
I saw it last night. I've been their but not like this. Txt'n can be fun, but boy; what a shock that dude and (I) got at the end of that story! You got to see this. I promise you will walk away second guessing some of your txt buddies.
Knowing this family personally and having went to school with Jessi and her brother for so many years this is really, just...shocking to hear about and watch this. To think, I used to visit that house.
yeah, they did talk on the phone, it's early on in the documentary, says "they talked late at night, when "Tommy" was supposedly off duty. She really believed he was 18. Montgomery couldn't believe his luck"
Crazy man, i seen this last night on MSNBC. Just goes to show u. You cant trust anyone u meet on the net until u meet them in person. But im amazed they never even talked to her on the phone. If they did that they would have known she lied.
i thought marinesniper and talhotblonde would talk on the phone at times, that's why he was astounded how she still hadn't caught on....maybe i misheard that part?
anyways, one of the best documentaries i've seen, and the climax blew my mind. everything was infront of me, but it still caught me off guard.
Its messed up. Its not a movie... It was true... I know the person that it happened too. My brother is friends with Brians brother. And yes, Sean it is a story about that.
It was pretty good. I thought it sent a great message to all those lonely desperate people in the world who escape the reality of their family life by talking to some hot young thing on the net, Ironic - Poetic & Cruel Justice
Accept for the fact that the guy who was actually handsome and young was killed. That bugged me. But the other people deserved to lose their families and go to prison.
it made me think how people can be so fucked up in this world known as the internet, IT'S SICK, MENIACAL AND Distgusting.

Knowing this family personally and having went to school with Jessi and her brother for so many years this is really, just...shocking to hear about and watch this. To think, I used to visit that house.

What a compelling story,
it just goes to show how the internet and the malicious people behind it can ruin lives.

yeah, they did talk on the phone, it's early on in the documentary, says "they talked late at night, when "Tommy" was supposedly off duty.

The twist towards the end of this story was almost as good as the Sixth Sense.

I don't get it.. Is this a story about some twisted bitch playing mind games online? And then somebody gets killed because of it?
