I don't think it's right that Tommy was blamed by his family for this. Even if he was watching him like a hawk, that drunk driver was going way too fast to do anything. The results would have been the same. Him wearing his helmet wouldn't have helped either.
My trio performs this song and we get at least two people a night come up to us and discuss this scene. We all miss this show. I think the show was more than just a 9 11 series. Will miss this show deeply.
Oh, God. When I first watched this episode and sat through this scene I cried like a baby, and then walked to my bathroom and threw up. So fucking intense and awful and well-done and wretched and alsk;fdjl;sd
I agree. I'm not sure how much the helmet would have made a difference, but the guy was drunk, and you can't see it coming, or even stop it from happening even if he had his eyes on Conner the whole time. The only way to protect is to keep them from doing anything at all and not go outside to live, and even then you never know.
Terrible. This stuff happens to people's lives and must hit home like a train... I see this scene and keep trying to figure out if I should feel like it's Tommy's fault. Janet blamed him, but the one thing Gavin's character is intended to portray is a loving dad that cares about his kids if nothing else, despite his flaws. Who thinks Conner's death is his fault?
@NYCEmpire Cant blame Tommy. Parents cant see that kind of thing happening to their kids. It's not as if Tommy didnt warn Connor to go inside and get a helmet. Remember, the guy that was driving ended up being drunk. I think the only flaw was that Tommy contrinued to drink even after this incident which made things worse.
I'm confused. He goes to the sidewalk next to the truck then somehow ends up across the street? It was a powerful scene, but that's just something I noticed.
@kylerose1990 While Tommy was having a conversation with Jimmy (maybe a ghost, maybe a figment), Connor kept riding and hadn't even gone back inside at all. Notice he didn't have the helmet Tommy told him to go inside and get.
@mrengine9 he got hit by the car seen speeding past tommy and jimmy while theyre talking at tommys truck.. it was a hit and run. hence the guy getting out of his car, looking at connor, and fleeing the scene... but good ol' uncle teddy gets revenge for tommy later on.
youtubers. i dont mean to add drama but. whenever i see this scene, i cry. i live in Arizona and i had a 6 year old cousin who looked up to me like a brother. he was killed by a drunk driver near Tucson. he looked exactly like "Connor". he was ejected from the vehicle and died at the hospital. I'm sorry but i needed to get this out. i apologize if ive killed the mood. god bless, all the children go to Jesus....
horrible ending, but i never could understand why Janet has such a bi-polar moment, she is being held by tommy the entire time then open handed slapped him in anger...
@NJS1726 Tommy and his whole family where notorious for being drunks, irresponsible, wild men and screw ups. In Janet's mind this was the latest and sadly, greatest mistake of all. She was hugging him and then all of a sudden she thought "Wait a minute. I'm hugging Tommy Gavin and this is somehow all his fault" even though it really wasn't.
Excuse me..going to go hug the crap outta my kids..

Anyone notice the goof? At 1:07 the guy is standing over the truck, at 1:08 he is gone.

Tommy knew he was dead when he saw him. You could see it on his face. He just wanted to hope. Pretty powerful piece of acting on Leary's part.

stupid kid didnt go get his helmet like his dad said. He probably died because of some serious head trauma.
