  • This song's about the Waffen SS.

  • this is why I picked up the bass.

  • this isn't even joy division, i mean it is kind of, but at this point they were known as Warsaw

  • rip ian

  • They wanted lime

    They wanted lime

    They wanted lime

  • @CherLloydsBoi SOB, I'll never be able to hear this song like I used to again!

  • @baseballfuries08 OMG, ME TOO

  • @Linear500 Sorry, but I don't remember my previous comment. Could you tell me what I said?

  • Where can I find this version to download????

  • I still can't understand why this song was excluded from "Unknown Pleasures"

  • Si Ian Curtis hubiese escuchado estos sus propios temas, no se moría jamas.

Un dotado de la inspiracion. Un capo.

    Saludos paganos.

  • what type genre they play?im still confuse.

  • @frdsxwrcked

  • @Joobs1010! whata full, i never say i love a band without know more than 3 songs

  • @EilidhlovesA7X surely 3 albums!? or 3 names of a band? or at least 3 members?

  • @YidoDaveMoyle i dunno what that means dude

  • @Joobs1010 Lets hope to god they don't start pretending to like Bauhaus. :(

  • @alexofnottingham Indeed.

  • @Joobs1010 Yeah, I agree with you. "love will tear us apart" isn't even their best song, just their most popular one. It has a good intro but that's it. Disorder, they walked in line, ceremony, the kill... Those songs are much better than "love will tear us apart", I hate when people say they are "a fan" of a band just cause they like their most popular song and haven't even bothered to hear the other songs.

  • @Joobs1010 I was wearing a Joy Division shirt in my high school and this girl I know said, "oh my god! I love Joy Division!" I got really excited and asked her what her favorite Joy Division song was. She replied Love Will Tear Us Apart. Asking if she had any others, it took 10 minutes of "uhmmm..what's that song? uhmm" I asked if it were "The 15th" (a Wire song if you didn't know) and she said "Oh YEAH!"...I feel your pain.

  • @Joobs1010 Maybe that's because it was the 'Warsaw' version. ;)

  • @gnomezly Yeah, Joy division then and Joy division in 1980 do sound a lot different but, I asked her other things like, atrocity exhibition, digital, dead souls and colony and she didn't have clue.

  • @Joobs1010

ha ha yeah dude i know this

  • Comment removed

  • @Joobs1010 Love Will Tear Us Apart was the worst song ever recorded by JD.

  • @ExiledStardust Nope.

  • this is Warsaw. and I agree, they would be on facebook for sure! Imagine Ian's posts... "just smoked a fag, looked out the window of duel injustice to find the cruel world who both care too much and not at all. Goodnight, sleep well. See you...?" - he'd be the best facebook status poster ever with his deepness!

  • @YidoDaveMoyle

Fuck off with your facebook shit

  • Hello guys. I'm RockN8N.

  • @tronfire

    hey im an injun

  • this helps me calm down after hearing shitty poser bands

    This song is dope

    nough said

  • white power!

  • @Strongwhite88 fuck you nazi bastard

  • The way Ian says "numbered tags" sounds so awesome. Great song from a fucking epic band.

  • All dressed in uniforms so fine, They drank and killed to pass the time, Wearing the shame of all their crimes, With measured steps, they walked in line. They walked in line... They carried pictures of their wives, And numbered tags to prove their lives, They walked in line... Full of glory never seen, They made it through the whole machine, To never question anymore, Hypnotic trance, they never saw, They walked in line... They walked in line...

  • @victorpalles some people may not see it but ian was a true poet

  • @victorpalles

TY for passing the lyrics! I knew them by heart some 20 years ago. I shall learn them again.

  • Damn it you all now I hear it as "they wanted lime." I am sad now but still awesome song. :P

  • @fufufuyen hahhahaha

  • joy division kicks ass!

  • New lyrics They walked in line, they walked in time, they walked so fine, they walked the line :) Now the sun don't shine, we ran out of time, and the darkness fell, the Earth decended in to hell. Only joking - its a good song

  • @blonde7000

Those are good lyrics tho :)

  • Shut up. This song rules. That's all. a;/hgreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeou

  • Shut up. This song rules. That's all.

  • Bernard's vocals here actually sound better than during the live performances as New Order in 1980-1981. Maybe he wasn't trying to imitate Ian Curtis here; just singing with his natural voice that was to become the voice of New Order later in the 1980s.

  • I wanna play this at some troops returning home from their raping and pillaging in the middle east.

  • Comment removed

  • Why does the voice sound so low quality in all the songs? I could really like Joy Division if I could hear the singer sing louder and clearer.

  • @JYC422

Because this is live recorded from 1979 or 1980.

You won't get much better quality on studio versions, but thats the point why noone can copy them. The 'old' sound quality gives me the feeling to be there and watch them live.

btw, rip ian and fuck new order shit!

  • @JYC422 please dont listen to joy division. go listen to some other trendy ass music you heard from facebook about

  • They wanted lime...they wanted lime..... next song they needed salt, they needed salt.

  • the holocaust was dreadful.

  • @WeezyBox HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA random !

  • Secondly, this song was NOT originally Joy Division, so I dont know where you get that its THEIR best. This was originally by a band called Warsaw. The commonalities are there, but with two exceptions, it was a different band and an earlier band altogether. Do your research before you go on about what song is whose best Normy

  • @Sumibraxis jesus fucking christ didnt your wife give you a blow job or something today thats why you bitch so much you fuck face?. first of all warsaw and joy division are not just related bands apart from a single change in the line up they are the same band. songs sung by warsaw were merely incorporated in division repertoire. So shut the fuck up you ''true punk'' and go get laid or somethin to relieve you from the tension. What are u a teenager full of hormones or smthin u fuck?

  • @Sumibraxis the warsaw were them but they only changed their name to joy division... I agree with uou about all the rest ;) and yes, there are people that seem to be unable to read correctly... (sorry for my bad english but I'm portuguese)

  • @Sumibraxis Do your own research first before you go off on people. Warsaw WAS Joy Division. They were actually supposed to be billed as Stiff Kittens (Buzzcocks idea) for their first gig, but changed it to Warsaw shortly before. Then they changed it to Joy Division so they would not be confused with the pro-nazi band Warsaw Pakt. They even billed themselves as Warsaw at one point (to get people to show up), but played as Joy Division. So technically, this is a Joy Division original.

  • LMFAO! actually douche fag, he wasnt obsessed with WWII at all. The anti-militaristic stance was common in REAL punk back in the day. The shit you kids listen to now, is dead and heartless. This song is in reference to the American Operation Paperclip. The Nazi's that got away with it and were given refuge and jobs in the US at NASA. Everyone knows that. (well everyone that lived in this era.)

  • CUrtis was obssessed with WWII but it didn't make him a neo-fascist. In 'Postwar', Tony Judt's stunning history of Europe, he details how the atrocities of WWII first came into the public consciousness in the 70s not the 40s or 50s as those who lived through them were in either trauma or denial. The 50s were a time of silence. So it was Curtis' generation that discovered the epochal scale of suffering with fresh eyes. It's pretty clear where he was coming from, I think. And one of JD's best.

  • with dirty hearts and hands washed clean...

  • '' all dressed in uniforms so fine they drank and killed to pass the time wearing the SHAME of all their crimes they walked in line they walked in line. i dont think thats a pro nazi statement. thats just me anyways

  • @Afereth you're kind of an idiot.... how do you get Pro Nazi out of THIS track? I guess someone saying "JESUS RULES" is actually a satanist by use of vernacular?

  • @Sumibraxis i said i DO NOT think this a pro nazi statement. if you cant read its clearly YOU that is an fucking retard ^^

  • You can really hear the punk energy in this song

  • I luv these guys, but i cant help smiling thinking they my have been nazi sympathisers ; Joy Division/Warsaw/ New Order - just sayin.

  • @PetShopMod you complete fucking idiot you've missed the point....nazis!! you've got to be a yank!

  • @paulmorson whats ur fuking problem dickhead???? It was a throw-away comment indicating the play on words. All u dumbcunt hardcore fans are the same; u think just because you like them and someone makes a comment u dont agree with, u feel the need to jump to the defence of the band. Oh sorry i forgot paulmorson on youtube was elected their official autobiographical tenant. Get a life loser, IC would've knocked ur fuking head off just for being such a wanker-and for the record NO im not a yank.

  • @PetShopMod they werent Nazis, Ian just had an interest in something, and last time i heard being interested in something doesnt make you part of it

  • @PetShopMod warsaw they took from the david bowie song 'warszawa' (the polish spelling of warsaw) and new order their manager pulled at random from some newspaper article about cambodia; as for joy division, yes their is nazi connotations but that was from a novel. and besides, how could you pass up on a name THAT COOL

  • @newfuckingwave you're totally right dude. But im sure you know Joy Division was a program the nazi's had where by they would ship in hookers for the soldiers at the death camps to relieve them as a type reward or just to revitalise them to keep their minds on the job. Cunts act, but so were the nazi's. As i stated before, i think its a pretty bizarre coincidencial play on words.

  • @PetShopMod punk did seem to have a bizarre obsession with nazis

  • Comment removed

  • irony irony irony!idiots..

  • Sounds like one of the first things they recorded. Production sounds a bit basic

  • Warsaw!!!

  • joy divisions basslines are great

  • @keyransolo You fuckin kidding me... Where is nothing more easier

  • THAT BASELINE !!!!!!!!

  • ian would have been remembered by everyone had he not went so early i promise. always the most talent go first ian curtis, jim morrison, jimmi hendrix, janis joplin, kurt cobain and more

  • This song is beautiful statement against fascism... it's a crime to the hertiage of this amazing band that neo-fascist scum like "von thronstahl" desecrated the meaning of this song by turning it into an anachronistic vision of a Spain that never existed. VIVA LA LUCHA CONTRA EL FASCISMO!

  • @Draugsang It's just as bad to hear morons like you calling this a "beautiful statement against fascism". There is no talk of fascism in this song, only soldiers, and it's certainly not a statement against them.

  • sadly the fascist band von thronstahl covered this masterpiece and turned it into political garbage. rip ian

  • They wanted lime

  • why can't i find this on the track list for unknown pleasures?

  • @kabal5000 it wasnt in unknown pleasures you may find it in the album ''stil'' although its slightly different. i cant get the Fucking single anywhere.

  • really punky

  • IVe always been able to tell the difference between when they were Warsaw and Joy Division. Its the vocals that i think are different.

  • @blocpartyband07 ha..you do suck sometimes..and the grammar suffers as your beehind duz... but i hope you get your period soon...can't afford anuther one...

  • ahaha im from facebook. what?!? you dont belive me mr border control officer? here check my passport: its the 6th largest country on the world. right after stupidity and ignorance.

  • Simple Sound.

  • this is an early demo version I believe; different mix for sure from the STILL version. sounds really good IMHO

  • @Countzir0interrupt

Ahh, the times, they are ahha confusing!

why you listening to this then you douche

  • Comment removed

  • @Tengocuentadeyoutub hi your a cunt.

  • geil, wir covern das mit die wut ;D

  • who hasn't that t shirt?

  • @aaa0780 I don't. But I don't buy tees that have this album cover on it because it's everywhere now.

  • Yo. I got the shirt for 5 €, cuz when I found out it was JD they already printed it and I didnt´t want it anymore... Now it is a very nice shirt and all, but the last 2 songs I listened 2 sucked. love etc... is great, this song also very nice, but how comes so much crap? I try 2 understand, so plz help me, is it more about the lyrics?

  • @FNHTelemedial I'm pretty sure this was something new back then.

  • They wanted lime!

  • I'm fourteen and tommorow im getting my Joy Division shirt. I need to show the people that see me, the Joy Divisionlives on.

  • Barney in the chorus?

Oh and this song is clearly about aspects of the Nazi regime. I mean come on, "They killed to pass the time... They walked in line"

  • Barney in the chorus?

  • One of their best songs.

  • You really have to be an idiot to argue about the meaning behind a song. Art is subjective and nobody wants to hear your opinions about it on the walls of youtube.... oh shit, wait....

  • @aceholepictures They just wanted lime, man :)

  • There was a metal band that did this song, but I have not been able to find out who it was. I had the MP3 back in my OpenNapster days.

Anyone know? It was much better than this the original.

  • @BlueMonster78

Blood Axis did a version, but I'm not sure if that's the one you're looking for.

  • 0:00 - 2:42 best part

  • Undeniable bassline......and beach boys harmonies.....how the hell did Joy Division get the rep as Nazi symps its just an imploding star( or was it Barnies aryan hair-do?....hmmmm)....Ill love this band till the day I die. Love em or leave em the most influential band of their time and the mid 2000s.

  • @noveltyme You do know this song is about jews "walking in line" to the gas chamber in ww2?

  • @clancy2k No it isn't, it's about the nazi's themselves. If you've listened to the song atleast once you should have noticed that.

  • @sakul777 Yes, i know.. it's about both. I have heard this song many times.. i think it's you know needs to study the lyrics...

  • @clancy2k I really don't see which part refers to jews (expect maybe the context).

  • @sakul777

It's not about the jews, clancy knows not what he's writing about.
