The F-35 is pretty sweet, but in all reality it is so unnecessary. The navy version is capable of hovering, and if you have not seen that yet then I suggest checking it out. The Air Force plans on phasing out the F-16's to F-35's but you will not see that for such a long time, and I do not foresee that ever happening. For example, the F-15 was made in the early 70's and still to this day has NEVER been shot down. Why try replacing it? All we continue doing is making more superior aircraft.

@JsheetsUSAF and the only reason we do it, is so we show other countries that they will never be able to keep up with our technology. Another I choose the F-15 over say the 16, 22, or even 35, is because of the flight controls. It runs off of a system where the hydraulics support the motion of the joystick, but the pilot has feedback, its kind of like writing with a pencil, you control how hard you push. Now a 16 and other newer aircraft use fly-by-wire. It is all electronic, and no feedback.

I do not trust that, and you can put unnecessary forces on the aircraft simply because you can not feel the feedback. On top of that if you lose your electronics you just made a lawn dart. The 15 has back up hydraulics, so guess who is still flying?

If they made it "less" maintainable, it wouldn't have thrust vectoring, radar-absorbing coating, advanced WCS, advanced off-bore radar, communications, avionics, etc. If they made it less costly, it'd be a PAK-FA T-50.
