  • The future of warfare. Why the fuck aren't they introduced?

  • @das81 At these power levels they offer no advantage over explosives.

  • your toaster has very good quality

  • *Moving away from the camera to breathe in*

  • is better to use big porjectile

  • very interesting video thanks

  • some great inforamtion here thanks

  • Blast it Spock ! You should know better than to play with mother nature !

  • very interesting thanks

  • Beautiful setup! Everything looks very clean. Could you go into detail about the components you used? Does your charging circuit automatically turn off, or is it manual? For your trigger, are you using some generic bushbutton or some kind of ic controller? I've built a crude coil gun as well but with a single coil and a large capacitor bank. Good job though, keep up the good work!

  • But, will it blend??

  • i want to see it upscaled and up powered and i want to see you drop a kangaroo from 500 feet then we'll talk business!!!!

  • Wow....these comments are composed of complete ignorance (for the most part). It's simply an example, I'm sure somebody would put much more money and resources into a device intended to actually cause harm. Quit hating....there's too many skeptics that think they're cute with their witty remarks. I personally think this device is a helpful stepping stone when learning about magnetism....it helped me.

  • Watch OUT someone might steel that copper tubbing!!!!

  • Vicious....

  • Hi, are you using a 55timer or something to time the capacitor discharge into each coil? Or do you discharge into all the coils at once?

  • Is the target a picture of Conan O'Brien?

  • nope

  • this guy will DEF survive the ant invasion

  • Can you say, pointless!

  • @yourvidman- And yet, you took the time to watch it, then post a comment. This is good stuff, more people should learn about electronics and what you can do with it.

  • railgun... a wanna-be railgun :P good job though :)

  • Bill Gates?

  • oh wowowowow. i know, your target is your neighbor

  • Are the coils spaced and timed to continue the acceleration of the pin? I see it looks like there's some logic circuits on your control module, but I only see one capacitor in the cap-bank.

  • @justGTFOProds Just buy a BB gun? And what would you say to someone who bought a BB gun? Buy a real gun? Idiot.

  • @justGTFOProds- Dont get all jealous just bc you cant make one yourself. Try learning what it takes to make one of these and then BUILD it.

    Thumbs down!

  • cool i have to wait everytime i shot cuz im making it on a EMP gun basic

  • Conan Obrien?

  • brb, gonna go pierce my lips

  • chuck norris! lol

  • bill gates?

  • its David "Shiny Face, Big Society Boy" Cameron, some one has finally shot him?! HOZAHH

  • I'm thinking to build one of 10 kw!

  • NO BLACK MAGIC

    CAPACITOR IS USED FOR CURRENT

IF IF NOT USE CAPACITOR THEN USE POWER TRANSISTORS YOU GOT BATTER RESULT AND USE MICOROCONTROLLER FOR SWITCHING YOU CAN LAUNCH PROJECTILE THIS WAY FOR LONG DISTANCE

  • Wouldn't it be easier to push the pin instead of pulling it?

    Jonathan,

  • what velocity

  • que es el copper?

  • Phil or the person who made this buitafull machine i would highly aperciate it if you can tell me how you made this super mini lnear accelerator im a physics lover and i would like to make a large scale model of this similar set up please respond to my comment and i will provide you with my email adress for further detail and instructions on its construction, matrials .etc thank you :) i hope u respond.

  • Nice gauss there

  • So who is te target ? :D

  • Of which compomnent the circuit is made? A 555 timership and a CD4017 for shit the carry?

  • can i please have the circuit schematic for this

  • ебааать убил

  • is that guy you shot george bush?if he is, good job.

  • how does this work?

  • By switching each coil on and off (left to right) the pin is pulled along the copper tube gaining enough momentum to fly out the end and hit the target.

    Regards

    Phil

  • @speardock btw, forgive me for my ignorance, but what is the use of a capacitor?

  • which one

  • @speardock I dunno, it seems as if each one of these coil guns or whatever you call them all have capacitors... like, what is its use? does it store electrical energy and releases it in one big go? or are there several of them for each coil?

  • @speardock hm, if the coilgun was larger then one u have, will it take more power and perhap, more deadly? like let say, it was 5inch wide, 100inch long. huge caps, transformer. something thing as close to a Railgun. a gun that could go thour a brick wall. need alot of force lol

  • @SamuelChung94

Capacitors suck up electricity and store it, then release it very quickly. It's so you can get enough energy to fire a projectile without melting your battery.

  • @derpguyjohn right... thanks! so that means if i use alot of caps, then just wired it in parallel, then they all released at once... that means i can get a 9 volt battery and store the energy. then release it all at once with greater power?

  • @SamuelChung94 to store electricity

  • @SamuelChung94 if not already answered or the question relatively forgotten, a capacitor is extremely important in coil guns especially, for they store up electric energy (within the capacitor) and when a circuit is closed, or so to say when the capacitor discharges the electric energy, the charge runs through the coil instantly creating a magnetic field pulling the metal projectile towards the center of the coil, then in the same instant, the charge turns off so the projectile keeps momentum.

  • @DarkSlaya101 Its called a phase shift (-90 degrees) which causes the coil to turn off

  • @SamuelChung94 they have many uses - the biggest in coil guns though is they can discharge energy way faster than a battery - which is essential for accelerating a projectile quickly.

  • @speardock Do you have any kind of instructions, or could you PM me about some specs + Info/Sites you used, or books?

I'm really intrested, i wanna make a LIM (Linear induction motor) launch for a small Roller coaster model, Thanks in advance :

    Olaf

PS : Keep up the good work!

  • @speardock Exactly what did you use to turn on and off the coils with enough precision to stop the coils from pulling back on the projectile?

  • @speardock

How do you know at what time to fire each coil? It looks like firing order is controlled by a microcontroller on the board, but how do you know the timings for firing the coils, and the spacings to put between the coils? Is there some formula for this?

  • conan?

  • St Magnus?

  • jfk?

  • nope

  • @speardock obama!! jkjk cool vid

  • @coilsinamotor AWWW too bad it was not the real obama

  • @coilsinamotor Ya... at least a republican read this

  • @howtodothings100 true then they can do something about it :P

  • weird but cool

  • With all that work you put into the circuit and making it multi-stage, it seems incredibly weak. I made a single-stage coil gun out of two disposable cameras and it fires a projectile of the same size with at least twice the velocity.

  • Bill Clinton?

  • nope

  • can make 1 that fires a 700 ton slug of depleted uranium like in halo?

  • @VRUDS this is a coil gun, and your thinking of is a Gauss rifle

  • @bob1sded it's the same shit

  • @VRUDS Its actually not possible ( Your thinking of Halo 3's Gauss Cannon on the Warthog correct? If so then no its not possible... The amount of energy needed to accomplish "Halo" style cannon would instantly melt any form of energy housing.... The cooling system on it isnt possible... you would have to get almost to absolute zero in which case it would just super conduct and implode on itself...

  • @VRUDS would you mean mega ton

  • I would like to make a linear accelerator like yours !!!!

Where can I get infos about it ?

  • click snifffff click snifffff click snifffff

  • L.A.M.E

  • lol. you should be making your own linear accelerator then. Forget the Varian engineers. Thats another mysterious meaning of pinpoint accuract from the linac.

  • Wow it quick. And also very silent. I didn't even hear it fire!

  • OMG U KILLED BILL CLINTION

  • @WhoLetTheGuyOut should have been oBOMBa

  • Wait, who is that a picture of?

  • gauss gun :)

  • @syriusm @mindauguij *sighs* coil gun :)

  • @kernalEugEnE yep, it's coligun but gauss gun (even gauss rifle) is correct name too. check in wiki ;) "The name Gauss gun is sometimes used for such devices in reference to Carl Friedrich Gauss, who formulated mathematical descriptions of the magnetic effect used by magnetic accelerators." but railgun is incorrect name to this device

  • @syriusm my mistake. you sir, would be correct. i assumed you meant the typical gauss design(using solid magnets to accelerate the projectile) but yes, this too is a gauss gun. my bad :)

  • @kernalEugEnE thx! ^^

  • Congragulations, you've made a lethal weapon. I'm suprised they let you take this to school.

  • @Velociraptorblade actually it is school apropriate just not with a nail. it shows the change of potential to kinetic energy, as well as acelleration. (sorry not good at spelling...)

  • we did this in school :=)

  • railgun :)

  • dude can u send a how to please :]

  • this is black magic

  • @majortom321

Really; you got to be kidding, right?

  • @majortom321 I think you mean witch craft :P
