I would say more fundamentally, was how the perception of 'God' came about during the time of the British. The perception as 'God' as something different, something detached from your own being, self and you. The fact that the English translations of Siri Guru Granth Sahib are littered with the word 'God' and 'Lord' when there is absolutely no direct translation of words with similar concepts/associations attached to them, is in itself proof of how the British influenced Sikhi.
