  • I played bass for a folk group in high school (graduated '64), and we put the group back together every 5 years for reunions. "Oh, Sail Away" is one of the songs that we do, but in the interests of political correctness we changed "brown-skin gals" to "island gals." Sorry, John.

  • @MrDaveBj - Somehow I think both Johns - Stewart who sang it and Phillips who co-wrote it with Dick Weissman - would be cool with your change!

  • I have been searching for this song for years. I first heard it sung by Jay Ullin in the basement of the campus fellowship house at Western Washington State College in 1963. The tune has haunted me all these years and your rendition sounds much closer to Jay's singing than the Kingston Trio. Thank you.

  • How nice to see this song featured!

  • I haven't heard this great song for such a long time. This is a wonderful rendition of it. Thank you!

  • Thanks so much for your kind appreciation! We weren't sure that there's be anyone out in YT land who'd remember this little gem!

  • I still have my old vinal Kingston Trio 33 rpm somewhere which had this song on it. I haven't had a record player hooked up for decades now and I miss my old favorites.

I am sixty years old now and I remember buying a striped short sleeved shirt that was just like the one they wore for the cover photo. My friend used to remind me who good it looked on me.
