No as previoly observer is an M4A1E8. M4 aplies to all Shermans. A1 is the first type of Sherman hull, cast with the rounded edges. E8 mean American high velocity 76mm gun. This was an upgrade to existing Shermans in the last year of the war and the end of war production models. The Firefly had the British 17 pounder gun it was superior to the Amercan 76mm but the US wanted to use their own guns. I think all Fireflys had A3 hulls, flat plate square edges.
@IVANGROZNEY incorrect info sir ill help you.. E8 does not mean HIgh velocity.... the E 8 meant for teh new suspension systenm given to the tank /./ HVSS the M4A3 E8 also have the same suspension HVSS and the M1A1 76mm gun... the HVSS ( Horizontal Volute Spring Suspension) helped the tank over cross country cause of the wider tracks meaning lower ground pressure.. cause teh original sherman suspension was so thin it could bog the tank down in the mud and snow.. ..
@IVANGROZNEY also about teh Firefly. also incorrect.. the Firefly was based on the Sherman V ( AKA teh M4A4) hence the name Sherman VC ( v for sherman 5 and C for firefly) also the tank was based on the M4 also known as the Sherman I.. same concept.. just known as the Sherman IC ( I for sherman 1 and C for firefly) thje brits did not use the M4A3 much at all that was the dominate ameican sherman after the fight in normandy..
@ford762 also ill add that the Jumbo never had a 90mm gun. plus teh jumbo only had 254 production of it.. half of them converted in the field from 75mm to the 76mm.. aklso as you know the Sherman jumbo had up to 178MM of frontal armor on the Gun mantlet.. made for assualts.. but never housed the 90mm..
Very neat to see the Humber armoured car behind it. Didn't know there were any still running. I heard most of them ended up getting used as targets on firing ranges!
O.K., WHO ORDERED DEMOCRACY?
