I'm an African teen and dark skinned, i'm not quite as dark skinned as Alek & Nya but i've been discriminated by Black americans mostly & i've struggled with my image too... alot. I know i' beautiful but it's kinda hard to beleive sometimes when all around you people say Dark skin is ugly.
Am African and in Sudan the Northern part is ruled by Sudanese of the Arab decent that's why she says they were kicked off the war in Sudan is mostly in the southern side where the "black" Sudanese are...the Arab Sudanese discriminated against the dark skinned Sudanese and wanted them out of Sudan.

This show is inspirational to all women. I am not black, but I can really appreciate this. Beauty really can come in various colors, shapes, and sizes if only people can learn to accept that early on in life. I do agree that every woman needs a representation of herself in the media.

I've never really considered Alex Wek as being conventionally beautiful. But as I watched her talk on this clip with such confidence and warmth, I saw her true beauty surface. She is quite alluring! I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder. But how a person manages to carry themselves with such grace and elegance like Ms. Wek is really what sets her apart from other typical models with more conventional looks. It's refreshing that beauty is now celebrated with more diversity.

@MsKatie0209 i'm not sure how differently she acts around white people, but she is very much at liberty to do race shows because she has time and time said that she has dedicated her life to doing away with racism through the fashion industry. i think that even as a light skinned black woman she was very much aware of the racism that goes on in the beauty industry and may have felt the pain too.

But there is such a thing as personal responsibility, I don't go around walking up to overweight girls and calling them ugly as a fellow woman (which I dont think they are) but the media portrays that. So you cant say that its the fault of the media that lighter skinned black people attack darker skinned black people and call them names.

Although in the UK, racial tensions seem to exist more between Pakistani Muslim immigrants and whites... anyway, I was not stating that it is the media's FAULT that things are this way, I was highlighting the FACT that it's the media's INFLUENCE that makes me people carry these kind of mentalities (which in some ways, is an unarguable, indisputable fact...), so try not to put words in my mouth.

Pretend that you have a murderer who murders three people for attacking his girlfriend when she was walking home and hospitalising her. It was the actions of the attackers that INFLUENCED and inspired the crime, but it was his fault for directly retaliating in the way that he did. And I got it in the first place, MY only point is, that there does seem to be an issue, a big one, of talking down to people of darker skin tone. And that yes the media has given them a shit deal (along with pretty much everyone but blonde white women and the occasional brunette or light skinned woman) but in real life, ..

Dark complexioned blacks --- both male and female (it does indeed work both ways) --- do get treated unfairly and have never been properly represented in any form of Western or even Eastern media, which IS sad; but my point was, there is a leading reason for all of that, and that is the Eurocentric propaganda that people everywhere are and have been exposed to for generations now.

I've never really considered Alex Wek as being conventionally beautiful. But as I watched her talk on this clip with such confidence and warmth, I saw her true beauty surface. She is quite alluring! I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder. But how a person manages to carry themselves with such grace and elegance like Ms. Wek is really what sets her apart from other typical models with more conventional looks. It's refreshing that beauty is now celebrated with more diversity.

this was so emotional, i am 19 and i have thier complexion and yeah it sucks sometimes but if got a dollar for everytime time someone to me i was gorgeous, beautiful or exotic ( the good exotic) i would be filthy rich lol so then i started to see no one hates darkskinned people, the only people who hate us are the ones who are jealous. white skin is pretty, in between in pretty, and darkskin is pretty! were all gods creatures and he made us all in his likeness!!!
