He'd be...okay but I really like the ones we already got. Of course, my biggest issue with anime to live action is...EVERYBODY SCREWS IT UP. Like...okay, I would love to see a more euro-asian playing L. Since l is half european half asian. But I'd want to see a japanese light etc etc etc. No one does that. We always screw these things up. I really loved the original liveactions and I would hate to see us make a remake and screw it up. >.<
To be honest looking like the anime L should be the least of their concerns. L is an idea, not a look. L could be bald for all I care as long as he brings that intense yet philosophical confrontational attitude. From this perspective, the L in the japanese movies was horrible.
Logan Lerman Would be Good as L. But too young. Which is why he's PERFECT FOR NEAR. Go look Up Logan Lerman on Google Images and Tell me he wouldn't make a Great Near.
add Jared Padalecki to this list. He should play as L, then I would go to see a movie to know, how J.Padalecki looks as emo :D (no offence L's fans. I love L the way he is lol though)
Totally agree with this vid. Joseph not only resembles L, he has the same brooding demeanor and sense of intelligence so that he could pull it off. If anyone else agrees, Johnny Depp wouldn't be a bad choice either, but according to most people's opinions, he's a bit too old. :) (I still think Levitt's great anyhoo.)
Joseph is an underrated actor. but i believe that other than kenichi, he's the only one that can bring justice to L. if you watch his movies, he can be anything and make you feel like thats the real him. he is a great actor..an amazing actor and believe me, he'll give L justice :)

What's wrong with Zac Efron? He was in a few bad, singing movies. He did nothing wrong though, and what I know he isn't a bad person. Who knows, the movie may suck or it could be great! I love the people saying that if you support this remake you're not a true Death Note fan. My favourite anime & manga are both Death Note, and I'm getting a little excited about this American remake given all of the talk surrounding it. If they butcher it? I'll be upset. But -- Zac Efron LOOKS like Light, and if he can pull this off (being a DN fan himself), I will respect him so much as an actor. AND JOSEPH GORDON LEVITT AS L!? That's a fangirlgasm. You can't very much call yourself a true fan of Death Note if you're even encouraging this abomination to be made. You're supporting the butchering of a masterpiece.
I find it very unlikely that Kenichi could play L in an American adaption. L grew up in England, is a European mutt, and can speak English fluently. L's not SUPPOSED to look Japanese, and appearances matter just as much as acting skills when it comes to casting roles. Besides, there's something called a LANGUAGE BARRIER, and have you HEARD Japanese people trying to speak English? It just wouldn't be suitable for Ohba's L.
In other words, Kenichi should be out of the question.
I'm guessing people are being negative about this because of his performance in G.I. Joe, which is understandable as no one came out of that movie looking good. I actually support this because Gordon Levitt is a very talented actor in his own right. If people actually bother their ass and checked out his movies like Brick and Mysterious Skin, instead of complaining like the whiny little children that you are, you would realise he could actually do the role justice.
@sashabeliqt have you ever seen J.G. Levitt act? He's a phenomenal character actor...and is one of the few speculative cast memeber of DN who actually has the acting chops to pull off the role. As for Kenichi Matsuyama coming back to play L in the American remake...well...have you heard him speak English? Don't get me wrong, I LOVE him as L, (he's just about perfect) but there would be a massive language/accent barrier.

Seriously i believe that Zak Efron would do a fantastic job. My favourite anime & manga are both Death Note, and I'm getting a little excited about this American remake given all of the talk surrounding it. If they butcher it? I'll be upset. But -- Zac Efron LOOKS like Light, and if he can pull this off (being a DN fan himself), I will respect him so much as an actor. AND JOSEPH GORDON LEVITT AS L!? That's a fangirlgasm. Seriously, people -- L's not even Japanese.

Viz Media actually said that Joseph Gordon Levitt WILL play L.
He needs a wig and some eye make-up.
They also said that The American Death Note Remake is going to come out October 31 2011

I find it very unlikely that Kenichi could play L in an American adaption. L grew up in England, is a European mutt, and can speak English fluently. L's not SUPPOSED to look Japanese, and appearances matter just as much as acting skills when it comes to casting roles. Besides, there's something called a LANGUAGE BARRIER, and have you HEARD Japanese people trying to speak English? It just wouldn't be suitable for Ohba's L.
In other words, Kenichi should be out of the question.

I'm guessing people are being negative about this because of his performance in G.I. Joe, which is understandable as no one came out of that movie looking good. I actually support this because Gordon Levitt is a very talented actor in his own right. If people actually bother their ass and checked out his movies like Brick and Mysterious Skin, instead of complaining like the whiny little children that you are, you would realise he could actually do the role justice.

@sashabeliqt have you ever seen J.G. Levitt act? He's a phenomenal character actor...and is one of the few speculative cast memeber of DN who actually has the acting chops to pull off the role. As for Kenichi Matsuyama coming back to play L in the American remake...well...have you heard him speak English? Don't get me wrong, I LOVE him as L, (he's just about perfect) but there would be a massive language/accent barrier.

@RachaelRamen true yes but for me i got so sick of girls screaming over him and hopefully they grew outta that(i think they have) but if some havent,when trailors (prob spelled wrong) come out and they find out zac's in it they may just go see it with no knowledge prior to the anime or mana,or the original movie itself. which would to most fans of death note royally piss them off. but might as well face facts and get over it i guess. maybe it wont be as bad as twilight :)

Seriously i believe that Zak Efron would do a fantastic job. I HATE high school musical as much as the next person but looking at other works that he is branching off to he's actually VERY talented and he resembles light an intense amount. And with L, He may not look EXACTLY like him but he looks a damn well enough like him. Its the best we're gonna get in AMERICA. I mean the light in japan didn't look like Light at all but i didn't hear complaining.

This person looks like Heath Ledger. Anyway, i happen to not know any of the actors that are rumored to be playing these characters...i have no idea who this actor is...is he a good actor? I still don't want America to remake Death Note. Kenichi is the only L I want. He spoke some English in L: Change the WorLd. Someone could teach him more English so he can act in this movie too.
