Kindergarten (ages 4-5), you learn how to both read and write all your letters and numbers. Different preschools and parents do different things so kids come in with different levels--some can fully read, some only know a little, everyone screws up LMNOP. First grade, kids were expected to be able to read and write. And we had math, history, geography, etc. This was not that long ago, at an ok public school. Did everyone get dumb while I went through puberty? Honestly!
