A night of classic music on vinyl made popular at the Loft and The Paradise Garage. 99prince84king@gmail.com
ppl dont know what clubs are unless they have been here. I haven't even been to this spot. at least my mom did. lol .clubs don't get any deeper than this. point blank.
Yep, I remember the Garage. I went a couple of the times in the early and mid 80s but I didn't pay anybody to get me in, I was young and on top of my game, so I got into a lot of clubs.
I WAS THERE......AN OUT OF BODY EXPERIENCE...WAS AFRAID FIRST TIME I WENT THERE.......BECAUSE I HAD NEVER BEEN TO A CLUB LIKE THAT...AND I AM FROM NEW YORK..YOU COULD FEEL THE REALNESS....THE MUSIC WAS SO ON POINT....THE PEOPLE WERE SO ON POINT...THERE WAS SOME KIND OF ONENESS AMONGST THE PEOPLE....THE CLUB ITSELF WS SET UP LIKE ONE BIG THEATRICAL PRODUCTION...AND IT WORKED SO WELL...FOR ALL THAT GOT IT!
Does anyone remember a remix of that 1st track from around early to mid 2000s?? I remember hearing it in a set but cant remember who. I want that track! Help.
Good to see this done. Could've been better if the quality of editing and music selections had been better. You and me against the world as mentioned is questionable, and the music choices lazily relied too much on then recent house tracks. In truth the house era was only the last 20% or so of the Garage's life. NYC post-disco underground club music played there comprised the beginnings of what later went to Chicago. The world never learned of this because NYC's scene was truly underground.
I went as often as I could afford to. It was always unforgettable. A NYC that doesn't exist anymore. New York has been scoured clean. AIDS choked New York to death
And I was born in 1986, but I for me house music don´t is a music is a life style, its a spiritual thing a body thing. Please house, return at your essences and leave the rthym of today. I love house classic music.
I will never forget my time at Paradise Garage ...I feel so privileged that I got to experience it and to also to experience New york City at such a special time!!!
It will never be another time in History like it again.................................... ever !
What is the artist name/title for the track 'Release' that DJ Antonio Ocasio is talking about @6:30mins? I can't quiet make it out when he mentions it. What a story though!
I one of the lucky ones whom had been afforded the opportunity to have partied at Paradise Garage, US Studios Warehouse (Chicago), The Circus (LA) and of course the Palladium (NewYork). Danced to the music of: Larry Levan, T. Scott, Frankie Knuckles etc. Those were the days.
I bought this DVD as soon it got out on Amazon. I was born in 1974 in Europe and this is one of my biggest regrets that I was not so lucky to every be in Paradise Garage or Loft. But the spirit of those clubs travels through the years and across planet.
You missed a great time there is nothing like this today sadly . I would travel back and forth from Chicago's Powerplant and the Muzic Box to the Garage and the Saint in NY. What a time and the stories I could write a book as many others could as well.
I was born in 1971, and I started to party in NYC Club Scene in 1988. My friends and I feared going into clubs like Paradise Garage because they were too gay, we were in our late teens and naive about the dance culture. But I overcame this fear, underground dance music made you color blind, and I began to accept and respect gays and lesbians because we are one race, human race. In 1988 I started at the Palladium, Undergound, Sound Factory, Tunnel, Limelight, and on and on. Peace.
Very beautiful ... lyrical ... I disagree with the openning narration, "it was you and them against the world" ... That was not the teachings of Larry Levan ... We were with the world ... Someone went to church and didn't get the message. I grew up at the Garage. When I was 17 I made my pilgrimage and was there the last night, September 27, 1987 ... Larry, the music, the love ... This I keep in the corner of my thoughts ...
The Gilded Grape my god I forgot about the place .. I Remember the Bon Soir on West 8th . The Hollywood on 45 st bet 5th and 6th . and the first gay bar I ever stepped foot in ,, the Round
Table ,,,,,,,,,the unity of the human diaspora was intense ,,,
