  • man zero dislikes awesome all these people have good taste in music and know how to live

  • I loved Whitesnake as a kid. I kept listening to them as I got older and metal/rock fell out of "fashion". These years later I realized I really loved John Sykes' work, not Whitesnake per se (without him).

  • 276 fuckin great listeners

    I love you all

  • Question for the guitar players: What control is he constantly tweaking, like at 5:00? Why does he keep going to it?

  • @fiveinslide6 the volume knob

  • @vaso0o0 Thanks. For noise control? I always thought it was the tone control but could never hear any change in the tone.

  • Wow. If I'm not mistaken, the dude is playing a solid-tail. But his freaking bends are so fluid they sound like they're being done with a whammy bar. Amazing!

  • fantastic guitars but the vocals are...ehm... nothing compared to Coverdale. If you claim that Sykes sings better than Coverdale, just stop lying! otherwise check your ears. Coverdale's unique voice is the only one for this song. PERIOD

  • dislike 0 haha awesome

  • Sykes is a god. Pure and simple.

  • I like the way he sings better than Coverdale.

  • 0 dislikes... nuff said

  • Here we go!!! Every song that made whitesnake famous was written by Sykes! Coverdale is a loser.

Also zach wylde came long after sykes so it should be zack sounds like john.

  • Here we go!!! Every song that made whitesnake famous was written by Sykes! Coverdale is a loser.

  • @aubielicious hahaha what a lame comment! For example Here i go again was written by sykes? every song in the 1987 album was co-written with DC. Also the Still of the night guitar riff was also Coverdale's. Dont talk trash please

  • His voice isn't as good as Coverdale's. But the guitar is perfect, clearly, since he wrote the guitar for this song.

  • playing style is like zakk wylde....just better

  • @guitarzan7898 u mean zakk wylde is like john sykes, this guy has been around since 1981!

  • @Harveygroom yo brother John has been around alot longer than that. You all either don't know or seem to foget a really great band he formed long before whitesnake called the Tygers of Pan Tang

  • @Harveygroom good point! I stand corrected!

  • AMAZING!!!

  • I knew he played some of the best guitar around, but I didn't know he could sing too!!! The guy is a world class musician and performer.

  • What a great version. Is that Mendoza on bass?

  • A couple years back I saw an interview with Sykes and he was asked who he thought was the best Singer out there.... he said Coverdale. Even though they had thier problems, John still today considers him the best.

  • @marcusdolby1 that's how humble this guy, sykes is.. unlike that pussy, cover-version being afraid just to talk about sykes. what a pussy

  • @guriguri567 Don't talk trash mate ! about anyone. you don't know what went on !

  • I always knew Sykes was Whitesnake(songwriting ETC...) @ the time , THIS CONFIRMS it!!!

Also, reminds me of the BLUE MURDER Disc style-wise.

    Love the Fretless bass!

  • hahahha omg fucking insane, definitely upgrade the song from v1.0 to v8.0

  • John Sykes is unreal!

  • Holy Shit he sounds better than that Cloverlawn guy!

  • huh, never thought sykes has such a voice :O

  • in certain instances he looks exactly like sebastian bach

  • can somebody tell me where i can this full concert dvd?

  • @bathtubgeorge I've been looking for it for years as well. Can't seem to be able to find it anywhere.

  • Joey DeMaio on the bass guitar ladies and gentleman! lol

  • @Assfister666 is that the bass player from Y&T ?

  • Fucking criminal that this man doesnt get the attention and respect he deserves!Doug Aldrich is a very good Sykesy tribute act,but he aint Sykesy.I do hope John's new stuff re ignites his playing, personally I thought when I saw him & Scott Gorham as Lizzy,John's playing was too samey by his own high standards!Still would love a uk tour of him playing murder and '87 songs!

  • Worst thing Coverdale ever did for his career was getting rid of Sykes. They could have had another monster album after 1987s Whitesnake.

  • @thebrenstar WORST THING? NOO BEST THING BRO- THEN WE WOULD NOT HAVE BLUE MURDER!!-

  • Worst thing Coverdale did was fall out with the most underated guitarist ever. He wrote 1987 and Coverdale took the glory. Sykes is awesome

  • now this is a fucking performance

  • I swear, John Sykes is the most underrated singer/songwriter/guitarist ever!

  • yep,agreed with u scorpionsting22!! john sykes is a mighty man

  • but he wrote dis awesome fucking song in dis universe my bro..hes a guitarist..gud n fantastic..

  • Sykes is good but him singing that hmmm

  • @PEDROCLASSIC look up live stuff by coverdale john kicks his ass

  • @Scorpionsting22

    David Coverdale > John Sykes

  • @Scorpionsting22

  • @ShayFeral lol that one's well edited and touched up official dvd. try this one?

    /watch?v=vcAzsKzniy4

    coverdale's real voice and performance.

  • @sykes0925 Oh, and like this video of John Sykes isn't edited and touched up?

    /watch?v=SM-pfsdH8k8

    /watch?v=NqKG7tLv99E

It's time to face the fact, even as an aging rocker David Coverdale will always be recognized as the superior vocalist of the two. When people think John Sykes they think "guitarist", when people think David Coverdale they think "vocalist", it's simply how it is. David Coverdale has made a much bigger mark with his vocals than John ever will.

  • @ShayFeral do you really think those two footages of coverdale are good??? i would've NOT showed me those two if i were you. are you sure? can't u see why people talk shit about coverdale after watching those shows? i know sykes' main job is playing his les paul and coverdale's is singing. but as u see, he's got too much fucked up nights. he's great in the studio though, only in the studio.lol sykes never had OFFICIAL dvd playing still of the night live. so what u see on youtube is all real.

  • Sykes is just great. Just started listening his stuff and its just GODLIKE.

  • john sykes, hes the only pure rock guitarist.dynamics, powerfull and speechless..still of the night much better with his touch..i listened n watch dis video every single day..

  • dannyjingu- agreed with u..and much more sad when certain fans doesnt know Mr Sykes was the person who recorded for Is this love solo and whole album.they think of Viv and Steve Vai.they re just playing it and cover the most valuable song that Mr Sykes composed to.to Mr John Sykes,ur just incredible guitarist..

  • Who's the bassist on this video? He's Fantastic!!

  • @Booker775 marco mendoza

  • @Booker775 Marco mendoza

  • Who's he bassist with John Sykes? The man is fantastic.

  • lol...john wrote the music to this...can't compare the other guitar players....they where playing a cover

  • zero dislikes? That's unusual on youtube. John Sykes rocks!!

  • If guitar world magazine was around in 85, this guy would have been on the cover quite a bit.

  • I love whitesnake, but he shouldn`t kick john out.. <3John<3

  • you can see why john sykes was a huge influence on zakk wylde

  • nice version john, pity david was an ass back then....

  • Now I understand why sykes got fired, he superseeds coverdale in all aspects

  • @diopoulos the reason why he got fired was because he agreed to complete the album (87) without coverdale (since DC was still recovering from his throat infection) i.e. i assume sing by himself

  • @diopoulos beg to differ no he doesn't.

  • The bass player look i like Kevin Dubrow!!

  • JOHN SYKES IS GOD!!!

  • fucking Whitesnake went to shite after JS left....... fucking "slide it in" is such a great album........ i wonder if the problem was that John didnt want to put on makeup and hairspray..... go get em, Johnny

  • I like this far more than whitesnake. Love John Sykes

  • John Sykes is the opposite of Kurt Cobain.

  • I get a huge smile when i watch this. An expert performing his craft. Sykes is an expert AND having a great time doing it.

  • after "hiding my face from the sun...", in "waiting for the night to come" Sykes here sings "come" one octave lower, i think that gives a nicer effect

  • i like this live version more than the bad boy live 2005 CD in Japan, also more than many live Whitesanke versions,

  • Comment removed

  • Is there anybody who can tell what´s the drummer on this video?

    thank you

  • @jimmydurand Tommy O'Steen, is playing the drums.

  • Comment removed

  • this guy plays like Leslie West..

  • @SandbergPM5 Tommy 'O Sheen

  • sykes voice sounds sleezy

  • coverdale is a rock god

  • best song ever, i didn't know Sykes could also sing greatly

  • @vspa22 Never heard of Blue Murder!??!

  • @HvyMetalMab not until now, it appears the record company didn't promote them well enough, hoping to get Sykes working back with Whitesnake and Coverdale

  • Always loved the guitar tracks for this song, just fantastic that Sykes laid down the vocals as well as he did. Simply amazing

  • The best performance of 'Still of the Night' I've ever seen. Sublime.

  • Sykes is god!!!!

  • This guy is a BEAST! Def a guitar GOD!! Great voice too. Too bad the whole 80's thing was being phased out by grunge when Blue Murder came around.

  • Helluva guitar player, got some pretty strong pipes to pull this one off too.

  • That was amazing.Thanks 4 post.

  • Sykes is an AMAZING player. He is supremely aggressive, tasteful, fast, and his vibrato is second to none. One of the very best, ever.

  • This is seriously better than any live version from Whitesnake with Coverdale on vocals. Everything is in tune.

  • Brilliant .. shame Coverdale and Sykes couldnt manage another album .... The 1st BLue Murder album is brilliant... shame they didnt continue.

  • John Sykes is the MAN. Awesome guitarist and great vocals. The guy who said he cant sing needs his hearing checked. Check out Blue Murder stuff. Also John wrote most of the WhiteSnake album with this song and Here I Go Again, etc. He was a threat to Coverdale, thats why he got fired.

  • @gizmo3406 he wanted a replacement singer in whitesnake, whilst coverdale was ill, that is why he got fired.

  • Wow...never heard that interlude/slow solo before - brilliant!

  • Pure ...lean and mean! Zakk, J E Lee, and a few others, owe it to this true rocker. Shine on,... Mr. Sykes.

  • LOL! The basist is like: "Hey, I can play too!" XD

  • good guitarist but bad singer.

  • just listen mr sykes guitar solo in the middle of this song..that gibson crying...

  • @jackrockerman hell yeah...many men dream of being able to do that.

  • WOW, and now we get to pay $45.50 to go see John Meyer. 15 years later and I'm still asking myself "What Happened!?!?!?

  • Great guitarist. but vocals...no one can replace Coverdale sorry

  • @skliris80 Yeah! This singing was horrible. There were no balls. Coverdale's the man!

  • @Sneixx At least Sykes can sing the whole song.

  • @wind0wninja not as good as coverdale :)

  • here's the thing...

sykes, himself here sounds better than vai +vandenberg or beach+aldrich (don't get me wrong i like'em all)

sykes, singing better live than david cover...something, yes that BUM... while doing magic with his les paul at the same time.

  • @sykes0925 u are stupid...u dont know nothing about rock n roll...shut up and listhen song

  • @dpBLACKMORE thank u. what do u know about rock and roll?

  • @sykes0925 lol u kidding..u compare sykes with coverdale...coverdale is god!!

  • @dpBLACKMORE now u don't know shit about rock and roll. u wanna talk about ROCK and coverdale is god? drink some milk and go to bed, kid.

  • @sykes0925 dude dont talk so fucking stuppido better than vai or vandenberg sykes plays fast like vandenberg and vai but skye,s dont plays with feeling like steve vai and my landmember adje vandenberg so schut up sykes he,s become famous begous of lynott but sykes is and will always be a show guitar player and he,s voice sounds like my grampa that is singing under the shower so fuck sykes and amen 2 steve vai and vandenberg

  • @poseidon26ful amen to ur grandpa for having a retarded grandson like you.

  • @sykes0925 the same 2 your grampa

  • @poseidon26ful he passed away years ago. good luck on ur english!

  • @sykes0925 lol my grampa 2 lol .goodluck with your taste for music!

  • @sykes0925 Robert Plant refered to Coverdale as "Cover-version" because he felt David was ripping off his singing style. I couldn't care less.

I TOTALLY agree with you about Sykes just being a better guitar player. He is SOO f-ing over-looked it's not even funny. He MADE Whitesnake famous. Then he said f-it, I'm gonna rule my own world and wrote awesome songs in Blue Murder and as a solo artist. And then there is the fact there wouldn't be a Zakk Wylde if John Sykes didn't exist...

  • @sykes0925 Only us TRUE guitar rock fans appreciate John Sykes and for what he's given the fans as well as the world of rock period. Sadly, the world won't realise what a great talent he is, or what the world of rock owes to his guitar playing.

  • he sings better than David Coverdale live!

  • sykes/coverdale shoulda stayed on past 1987.

  • David who?

  • it is very sad for us not to be able to see a reunion of the 1987 line up, and to me this was the best line up of the band. coverdale, sykes, murray and dumbar.

I have seen whitesnake with diferent line ups and since slip of the tongue tour, but it is not as good as the 1987 line up.

and yes Sykes is a great guitar player my favorite.

  • @Pinpolloloko mr sykes my fav guitarist all time..

  • John Sykes is a guitar god, one of my very favorites. This godly riff, however, was inspired by a Blackmore riff Coverdale knew from many years ago. John took it and in my opinion made it even better. The monster tone and John's attack that is heard on the 1987 record is what made the intro a cracker. I think even if Blackmore were to play on this record, his tone would have given the song a completely different flavor from the Sykes' version that we all love. And John's solo is TO DIE FOR !

  • I think the drummer is too loud

  • nice to see the original guitarist who actully wrote the music......

  • I'm lovin Medoza's work too

  • Fuckin' fantastic

  • The crowd is kinda anoying, i cant hear the song very good. maybe its even artificial crowd sound..

  • Man that crowd is raging! and i couldnt help but notice mendozas huuuuuuuuuuge nipples...sick!

  • Sykes is my absolute favorite living guitarist.

Criss Oliva is my number one.

Dave Mustaine has mostly influenced my rhythm playing and style, but John has influenced the way I think of soloing and arranging and whatnot. I love listening to John play. He's so fucking awesome!

  • @mgdth502 I realize you posted this a month ago, but it's nice to see someone who respects Sykes and Criss Oliva.

When it comes to my rock/metal playing they are my personal favorites as well.

  • uuuhhh...Marco Mendoza on bass!!! awesome!

  • John Sykes has WAY more talent than David Coverdale. This man is the shit.

  • Senor Marco Mendoza... What a bassist :)

  • they just dont come out with solos like this anymore. what a shame.

  • This is about one thing.....The Heart/Soul..of John Sykes!!!..One more word.Passion...He Brings 100% on every note!

  • Whitesnake should have been Coverdale/Sykes/Vandenberg/Murray/Dunbar. David made one of the biggest mistakes in rock history when he fired Sykes/Murray/Dunbar.

  • @CoreyZ91681 go back to the beginning, the best shames was with mick moody and bernie marsden, both of Whom coverdale fired as well, IM SEEING A PATTERN HERE?

  • @theaxis2000 Very true. Covrdale took one of the greatest rock bands and turned them into a slightly better Poison. The whitesnake of today resembles more of the early years. They still blow the roof off any place.

  • John Sykes wrote these songs didn't he? He sings better than Coverdale.

  • @MrMassiveTone They wrote togther

  • @MrMassiveTone No. and No.

  • @leppardsnake Yes he did, Sykes wrote the riffs, coverdale the lyrics and melody

  • @Xiolablu3 no, sykes didnt write all the riffs (not this one for an example).. This one was something that david heard blackmore play (something similar to this riff) so he remembered it and got sykes to play it..

  • thats the bass player from that new dvd they have.

  • @frank5152 yeah, his name is marco mendoza; his awesome....

  • Didn't they stop as a band in 1994?

  • i stick by what i said, I don't to see whitesnake live to see how much of a cover band they have become. I've seen whitesnake, I own whitesnake lps and I can make an opinion on whatever I feel. But it's just an opinion at the end of the day, so whitesnake's hardcore fans should not be bothered.

  • Sykes is the rock god of the 80s !!!

  • I really beleive that John Sykes is one of the most underrated guitarists period. As much as I like the version that he performed with Whitesnake. I just feel that this version is better hands down & the bassist is just incredible with his style that he brings to this version. Furthermore, John is a much better singer than Dave Coverdale. I have to be honest.

  • @niah105 ....dude........ Sykes is incredible... He is underrated but don't even begin to down Coverdale's vocals... When he is on he is INCREDIBLE. John's voice isn't unique like his, he does not have the range nor the presence. He is incredible at lead guitar and writing but Coverdale IS a front man.

  • @niah105 What have you been smoking, John is good, but he has/had knwhere near the range and skill of vocals DC has.

  • @Firstcontact

John has even a wider range than DC has. take a listen to Blue Murder's first album.

  • @TheBlackestImp far from true! 4 octave wonder is what DC is.. John is.. well..not

  • @niah105 better singer than DC.. come on!

Better guitarist, I'll give you that :)

  • Been following skyes since his tigers days ... he's god damn legend!

  • Is that the same bassist in the latest whitesnake DVD?

  • marco mendoza is the bass player. do a search on him and check out his stuff.

  • yea bro marco mendonza

  • Amazing

  • sykes is "1987" one of the best albums of rock history!

  • i am a major john sykes fan, but i will have to say that doug aldrich is a major bad ass with whitesnake too. can you imagine him and sykes in the same band? that what be unfuckinbelievable.

  • @anewdayproductions agreed!!!!!!!!!

  • Cristo santooo John Sykes regge lo spettacolo interamente da solo...ha una presenza ingombrante, ma in senso positivooo!!:D

  • ya sykes isnt that big of a deal whitesnake is still great but out of all their guitarists syke was unbeleivable

  • I find myself completely with DEK on this one, it was horrible trying to watch people cover Sykes style from the time when he was with Whitesnake. While I like Campbell well enough, no one cascades notes with feeling quite like Sykes. He overwhelms you with his talent.

  • He co-wrote the song...

  • John Sykes as guitar player reminds me a mix between Ted Nugent and Zakk Wylde (although Zakk came after him and was clearly inspired by his style and sound),anyway I love him.

  • Yea Zakk style is very similar to Sykes. I think John and 1987 was the influence.

  • Yeah the 1987 inspired generations of musicians but don't forget Thunder and Lightning of Thin Lizzy with John Sykes on lead guitar. (I love also his stuff with Tygers of Pan Tang)
