yea that is true i felt oblivion was longer i took me a few months to finish while fallout 3 took me 2 days to beat probally because oblivion was just melee staffs and arrows but the arrows where useless so for example put a death claw in oblivion you will be screwed unlike fallout where you can use the alien blaster and kill it in 3 shots the only thing that really makes me wanna play fallout 3 is the addonds but i beated those in 4 hours

I have to say, from playing it quite alot now in co-op it really didn't live up to its promises :/ I didn't even give in to the insane hype as I find most of the time you're just setting yourself up to be dissapointed, but I didn't and I still was.

The game is too easy even on Insane for a start, the battles don't have the same tension they did in the original, it feels way too freakin' scripted (the final acts of the game felt like interactive cutscenes, particulary the final "boss")

Oblivion is amazing, you should most definatley get it, and since it came out in 2006 it should be dirt cheap now.

Oblivion does have quite a bit of text since it's an RPG, though the battles are real time, but you have to use the menus quite a bit and there's alot of stuff in them.
