I once hear June sing this on an unlabled cassette tape, so I didn't know who it was. Well, this evening I know. If it is okay with everyone, can I please dedicate this to my unburied friends in the jungle of Vietnam with whom I barely escaped in September 1968. Sp5 F Miles, US ARMY 1st SFGA
excellent song ! I knew nothing about this and June Tabor as well. I heard this song today from the "3rd program" of the Greek state radio, I called immediately the producer and he gave me some info and then I discovered June here. Excellent voice, sweet english for a non-native. Can somebody provide the lyrics of this song ?
Just yesterday I discovered the universe of this blessed singer. I have been submerged in Sandy for years which again was a rekindled purpose of my childhood when I was to many a folk festival in Denmark.
well, until now id only heard the fureys singing this gorgeously haunting song, and never imagined it could be sung by anybody else, but she certainly does a brilliant version :) first song of JT's i heard was the cloud factory, a couple of years or so ago now, and loved it from the first, but until now never lookedd up any of her other work, cant believe i waited so long!!
we must never forget those who died for the varied countries......this posted nov 11 2010, nevere forget those young men, nand she sings this so well it brings tears to my eyes
So much love love Sandy (who couldn't)..June was superb & so was Maddy..But I still feel the most evocotive rendition was Davy Arthur & the Fureys - but happy to be argued against..
"I hoped you died quick, and I hoped you died clean", Oh! I'm so sad that you died at all. We should all be grateful for your sacrifice. Thank you Willie Mc Bride & all your comrades. Rest in peace.
June has one of the purist voices recorded in modern folk. The most natural voice imaginable. Only challenged by our beloved Maddie Pryor, and our forever missed Sandy Denny.
Amazing version

Isn't anyone going to mention Eric Bogle? He only wrote the song & many other great ones too.

Withut doubt, the definitive and best version of this Eric Bogle classic ( whom I also saw sing this poignant anti war song in concert ).

No-one will ever do a better version of this. Such a shame it's still so true.
