your wasting a lot of time pulling your stick in towards your cab then swinging back out to the cut and you should be breaking that shit up while your sitting there waiting on your trucks to back up and you wouldnt be getting half buckets. just sayin
@henry15forever Ever run the big Cat hoes? Cat doesn't build a lot of swing speed into them especially the 385. Especially when you're swinging a big bucket on a long or GP stick most people will pull the stick in and whip it out at the truck. It will help increase swing speed by recycling some oil into the swing system and bringing the weight in closer to the machine makes it more stable and means you're swinging 20k lbs of dirt 10ft from center instead of 30ft from center.
@redheadedduckhunter Because I was in the way while I was climbing up. As a safety precaution they don't back in unless spotted or I have instructed them to load side by side.
@constructionfan Not this one but if you add a quick attach or a longer bucket (say trenching) you probably could. Best not to find out anyways! There's no reason you should be that close anyways.
Haha nice.. was just suprised to see you wearin that, i did a double take cause thats wear i work in PA and i saw that ur all the way up in alberta. Anyhow nice machine, would love to run one.. 345me's the biggest ive operated and the biggest we have now, used to have a a couple 65's 75's and a 85 but with the economy we had to get rid of em. Costs a shit load to move it as much as we had to too. Hope it comes back real strong cause then we might get some of em back and ill get a shot at one.
Ha nice.. was just suprised to see you wearin that, i did a double take cause thats wear i work in PA and i saw that ur all the way up in alberta. Wow, these guys dont know what their actually looking at. I see huge ineficientancy . You are very smooth on the controls, but that second truck is way to far out (not your fault). If You where allowed the 5 min it would take to cut that highwall in half and start your bench the production increase would well be worth it. And what is it with your company and not doing drive-by haul patterns look how long your waiting for that 2nd truck. I mean damn, you got the talent now find a teacher.
@HomebrewCigarsmoker Because we're in a corner. I keep telling you that you don't know all the facts and I've already assessed all the possible ways of doing the job before I start loading. We are building a deep cell for a landfill so we can't just cut roads where ever we want, certain dirt has to be removed for structures and other material is left to be reused around pipe etc. If you keep insisting on making yourself look like an ass with your uninformed comments Ill keep calling you on it.
@vantagetes dude corner or not theres no excuse for that. However, Keep up the good work cause as long as there companies and operators out there like you The more I can coast on my production= more money in my pocket.
@HomebrewCigarsmoker The engineers design where the channel for the pipe zone goes, we dig it out. Unless you have a way to float trucks either down a 150 ft 1:1 slope or over the vertical edge for the dividing berm on the right you'd have to do it the same way. Sure a truck or two may be not exactly where I'd like but you have to leave room to scratch at the hardpan and with no radios its faster to just load them where they stop then try to get them moved.
@vantagetes First of all Id love to, however i dont have time to play with a camera when we in production mode. Remember time invested vs material produced. More often than not if done correctly small investment gives huge returns. And for Christ sake get outside the box. Hint, that time you where playing shovel get that technique dialed in it pays off huge in adverse sittuations like corners and high banks that are too tall for SAFE and productive loading. Peace.
@HomebrewCigarsmoker Do what I do and set it up at break. There's no box sometimes things just have to get done with the equipment you have. This was all set up to be dozed, no dozer available so away we go playing front shovel and working in corners. I can still get 85% or better production loading it into trucks as I go rather then have the dozer work for two days at a cost to push it out so we can "drive by" load it.
@vantagetes I fully agree with you on exnae the dozer. What Im refering to is a mear 5-10 min invested before the trucks even get there and you start loading. I truely do wish I had a camera and could show you what Im talking about because as I have said many times its obvious your one hell of an operator and with some tweeks you would be a bad ass. Maybe about the end of Feb or March I can post something for ya.
@HomebrewCigarsmoker Please do. Let me know if you have trouble getting equipment Diggin' Ditchin' n' Bitching Productions owns a couple complete rigs.
@HomebrewCigarsmoker do you really see any way to do a drive by haul pattern at this site? -There isn't one. And his company DOES implement them, look at some of the other vids.
@brianmcbride99 Yes but conciderable for thought would have been involved. However givinen the specific adversity of this situation no. However, his truck drivers could be doing a bit better job on the time thei taking to back up.
@brianmcbride99 On second thought yes I do see a way to do a drive by haul pattern (depending on whats at the other end of the high bank to the right). Judging by the scrapers going by it is accessible. Let the dozer thats right their not having much success ripping come over and knock the top off that high bank to the right wide enough for a truck. Drive by pattern established and the trucks would still be below the hoe. Might even concider laying pipe as excavated.
do you like your job or not i was just wondering if i should get a mining job like that or not im still in high school and should i get a summer job excavating? my boss now says that i am a natural at running a cat 416c back hoe but should i go one step further?
@PaTrIcKat1995 Mining you will always be doing the same thing, every day. Plus most mines are in the middle of no where so you end up either travelling a lot, or doing camp work so you won't see your family much. Construction you do this that and everything between so it changes. You can end up out of town but you're usually home every night for the most part. Mines are not dependant on the weather but construction is. Plus mines you would get paid more.
@markdmy Yeah in quick you lose power which makes it slower with a large bucket like that. It's alright if you're using a cleanup to smooth things of or something but not the greatest for heavy digging.
hi friend your vidios are very good that I watch them all around the city of calgary alberta was made this vidio I have google Rearte program of baskets q ven pictures Palnet that, I am asked all the good friendly hug
your a good operator.. ill be doing this soon one of these days, any tops for a novice headin out to the mines to work much the same as you are? / safety pointers?
@LordEthan2 Look before you swing, use your mirrors and always do your walkaround before you get in. As far as operating, get good before you try to be fast. You have to be smooth on the machine before you are going to be quick on it. Anyone can fling the joysticks this way and that but only someone who knows how the machine moves can be quick and smooth.
@gimpy80 Nothing really it's just a trim level (started painting the cylinders/hood black and has the orange "powerstripe" bar beside the model number).
@chieftanzzz Thanks in that pitrun I had to do that at least once a day so I was getting pretty good at it. Trick is picking the right time to do it otherwise the truckers get all confused and think you want something haha.
Yes that is correct, the edge was a little high and when I spun to the truck my counterweight would have rubbed. I pulled the dirt down against my track so I could swing without losing any paint (pet peeve of mine).
When we float the machine it's too high. You can either take the bucket off (pain in the ass cause the linkage flops around and you can break it if you set the boom on it) or pull the stick cylinder pin. The cable goes to the small bit welded halfway down the stick and holds it up so you can move around without it flopping all over the place.
The stick actually stays on, unpinning the cylinder to allow that little bit more "bend" is way faster than having to bring a crane in to take the stick off every time. Still goes on 2 trucks as the counterweight has to come off.
Just once I'd like to watch a heavy equipment video without some yea-hoo sayin he could have done it better!

@MattijsDeSmedt I threw a bucket or two in from ground level before I climbed up, but that doesn't explain the pull away part of his comment.

The first truck was full if he put any more on it would have just run out the back anyway and probably left goiters on the haul road.

CataniaD6Kfan 2 years ago
When we float the machine it's too high. The cable goes to the small bit welded halfway down the stick and holds it up so you can move around without it flopping all over the place.
