Yea we're not the same as cows but we're certainly not better than them. Nothing's meaning in life is to be slaughtered and eaten so why kill innocent cows, pigs and sheep just so kids can get obesified off McDonald's burgers? :/ Unfair if you ask me. What did cows ever do to us?
Cows obtain their protein (outside of dietary protein) from the microbe themselves. The microbes in the abomasum can synthesize the urea (produced from protein metabolism) to supplement the cow's diet with even more protein (in a sort of protein cycle). The microbes own "bodies" also provide protein to the cow; the abomasum produces lysozyme that breaks down the bacteria that pass into this chamber, enabling the cow to obtain even more protein.
Wow!!!..i like this video using a real cow with the animation outside and the man explaining it....very helpful...bout one of the best videos of cow digestion i've seen
The cow can produce protein from carbs (grass) with the help from its microbacterial flora in its stomach. The way this works is that the microbes ferments carbs and produces 3 fatacids, one of them being puryvate. Then the microbes add Nitrogen, either given from the cow in the form of Urea in the cow's spit, or taken from the DNA molecules in the grasscells, and adds the Nitro to the fatacids forming aminoacids. These a-acids are the buildingblock for proteins and thus protein are formed.
Awesome video its a pleasure the became a vet :)

It's the food chain and we are at the top. I don't see lions or sharks going vegetarian.
