Because in Johto, Ash's Kanto Pokemon outshined the ones he caught in Johto. The Kanto Pokemon hogged the battle spotlight, and the Johto ones barely got any screentime.

They're left at Oak's to prevent this from happening again.

@fatzach09 Ash sucks in every region because if he DID win a regional league, the show would have to end because he accomplished his goal, and he gave his Pokemon to Prof.Oak so he could have room to try out new Pokemon from new regions while his older ones still get training done at Oak's lab. As for Pikachu, levels don't exist in the anime which was why he lost to Trip's Snivy because it probably wasn't lv.5 so much as it had sheer willpower to beat Pikachu in it's very first battle with Trip.

I actually hate it when people bash on something that is different because it is different. Okay so it strays from the original, nothing bad about that, At least nintendo is continuously providing kids entertainment with new pokemon games that don't have access to old ones while keeping things different yet formulaic. I actually haven't played black and white yet, and i still love this music. (but I prefer ruby and sapphire)

I wouldn't be surprised if they did remake Emerald in reality but just named it after Ruby and Sapphire versions.
