@mrvideouploads1 you use gas as well. in fact, to do this particular manoeuvre you first have to burn the engine out (full rev count) so that the car can function properly when reversing.
Don't you find that a lot of parking bays are so narrow that you can't open the door and get out easily??? It also makes it far more difficult to park if some idiot has gone over the line or very close to it. It seems to be the latest thing, paint as many small bays as possible to get the most cars in. They should all be the same width as those marked disabled, it would be easier to park and get in/out the car. Thank God for parking sensors, you can't even see out the back of modern cars!
i scraped my car today tryin to bay park, only passed 3 weeks ago, dont think i wil eva get hang of it,im ok if theres no cars at either side of me but if there is i just cant do it :-( any advice on this wud b helpful
Today I was doing this manouvere, but I was going forward into the parking bay from an angle (I had to steer to the right to get it in)... but I ended up not being in the dead centre of the parking bay space, it was a problem with my steering. My instructor's car is quite small, how do you know to start steering so that all of the car ends up in the centre of the parking bay space?
@turtlebum0 It depends on your car - each is slightly different. If you go to the following link, there is a detailed explanation of how to find it. If you go to the drivinghelp website, click on lessons and then bay parking, there is a detailed explanation of how to find your point of turn,
Its quite simple if you continually practice i've been driving for a year now and until about 2 months ago, i only properly learned the required technique because my instructor, to tell the truth told me some absolute bs
bay parking is really hard so im glad this video is here to help me. so in the whole manoeuvre u only steeer twice. once slightly to he left and the 2nd time full left lock? Thanks alot
@PHATSTR Once you have your point of turn, coming in wrong is usually caused by changing the speed of car or steering. Practice at trying to keep the same speed of both each time you do it. If you do come in wrong, simply move forward and adjust - the examiner is not expecting perfection. It's ok to adjust the car just as long as it doesn't become evident you haven't got a clue what you're doing!
@rfctopbloke This is a free video - I gave my time to do this for nothing. If it was professionally made and you had to pay to watch it, I might agree. The important thing is the bay park, not trivial stuff like what jacket I'm wearing. Sheesh!
@PyroandTech It isn't a road, it's a car park and, yes, it's fine to start in the middle of the lane provided you've checked you're not endangering anyone first. You actually need to get about a car's width between you and the parked cars, otherwise you might scrape them when you turn in.
Hello guys, i passed my driving test a few months ago...i am getting a car soon and i havnt been out driving since, im gonig out driving in my mums car soon to get the driving feel back..but im still very nervous, does anyone else had that problem?
That's normal, I worry that I'll have forgotten some things if I haven't driven in a while, but as soon as you sit behind the wheel again everything just floods back into your brain and you do everything pretty much instinctively.
It is weird, for my driving test (which is tomooorow) they tell you do look around loads to do bay parking if asked however at the veryend of the test you drive in front ways instead of repeating the bay parking.
thanks very much!! out of all i seen this tutorial is the most to the point, easy to understand and professionally done with camera showing the important points to observe! Thanks very much!
Nicely done video but all the car parks I have to bay park in never have the luxury of being empty. Nor do they allow you park so far across the centre line because if you did, when you swing round, you would rip the front of your car off as you slide along the cars parked in the next set of bays. This method looks to be fine given a particular set of circumstances. Try using it in our supermarket car park and you would surely have problems.
@londondazza Fair point, but it's actually easier to park between two cars because you have a better view of the gap - you just have to make sure you don't hit one of them. As for how far across you go, I agree that depends on the circumstances but you should never be less than a car's width out for the simple reason that, if you are parking between cars, you would risk scraping the side of your car on the nearest one. Thanks for the comment.
@DrivingHelp If the bays are empty, are you allowed to start closer to the line, then cut across the space next to the one you are aiming for? Would this be a minor in the driving test? Which way is best? Thank you
Look at this pansy parking...lol. he can so easily use the brake and the clutch to slow the car down and there's no chance of rolling or anything. He hardly has to pay attention to the gas pedal. This is like an ideal situation. i'm looking for hellish situations like the one I'm in!
The one I'm gonna get is GAY. The parking space is not parallel with the road and it's on a hilly bit! Flaming annoying! So my clutch control will have to be top notch or I'm gonna balls it up! That's the only thing I'm worried slightly about. Gonna have a lesson tomorrow so I'll focus on that.
I can't wait till I pass all these shitty rules are being thrown out the window, literally. It's so much easier to just whack it in however you feel comfortable, a quick glance of the mirrors and check for pedestrians then whack it in done !
@bikertom14 They're not rules, they're guidance. If you want to 'whack it in however you feel comfortable', that's fine with the examiner as long as you do it safely and under control. 'Glancing' isn't enough, whether it's for your test or not.
hey, really helpful video, thanks, i have 1 question though, is the point of turn when your wing mirror is in line with the white line? thanks again, i really wanna nail this maneuver
@ChappersSP No - DSA Grade 6 - the Cardington grading only grades the ability to drive, the 1-6 grading (6 being the highest) also grades the ability to teach.
After parking the car, check your glove box for ammunition. You’re going to need it to shoot back at all the people that were waiting for you to back your slow monkey ass into that empty stall during the Christmas rush.
Another good idea is to learn how to perform a J-Turn. You will need this maneuver as you speed away from the police pursuit after they have been called about the shootout you were just involved in.
Well - I don't see why you have to be personally insulting - but I shall rise above it. If you watch the video carefully, you will see. No-one else has had a problem with it, so I don't think it's me that's the idiot :-)
@DrivingHelp You said "As been told in the driving lesson" which is correct each car has a different point of turn and you will be given different points by each different instructor. Thank's for the help.
@DrivingHelp I am a bit confused. Say for instincts i want to park on the first bay. Which bay will i be using as my stopping point and what am i supposed to see if i am parking.
If you are a well developed driver you shouldn't need to practice parking any vehicle. Good driver can go from car to car to truck to van and park it without practice! ppl need to stop teaching other ppl refferences b/c they are uselees
hi i have a question about the turn in the road manouvre. The problem for me is that i am having trouble seeing how far i am from the kerb.
Also im driving a diesel car where i can just move the car by lifting the clutch but im worried that if i get a petrol car i wont know how to move off or do clutch control. Any advice or tips would be appreciated.
Hi, there's no formula for judging how far you are from the kerb as it will appear different depending on the type of car. I recommend practising by actually touching the kerb so you can get a bearing of what it looks like when you have gone too far.
Yes, clutch control feels slightly different in a petrol car. The answer is to use a little more gas (accelerator) and keep it steady while you use the clutch to control speed. Hope that helps :-)
Any time any one changes their car, they need to practice somewhere quiet for a few minutes to establish the point of turn as it's bound to vary between cars. Find a new reference point of your own by trial and error. If you visit the drivinghelp website, click on lessons and click on bay park, you'll find the whole lesson to go with this video to help you find the right point. Your instructor shouldn't be using marks, he should be teaching you how to find the point for yourself. Good luck :-)
That's very kind of you, thank you. No-one will believe I didn't pay you to say that! I don't know if you've been to the drivinghelp website, but if you haven't take a look - there are several more videos there that I haven't uploaded to youtube. Good luck on your test - let us know how it goes :-)
Uhh, I have my test this Thursday but my instructor never taught me to bay park cos my original test centre didnt have a car park ¬.¬ My test got cancelled because of the weather now I've changed test centre which has a car park and I can't bloody bay park ¬.¬ Thank you for the video!
No, not all european cars are manual - automatic is becoming more and more popular - particularly with larger cars. However, in the UK, if you pass your driving test in an automatic, you are not qualified to drive a manual. If you pass in a manual, it qualifies you to drive either. That's why most people learn in a manual.
Hi - if you go to the drivinghelp website (link on the right above) and click on 'lessons', then click 'bay parking', then click 'the manoeuvre' - you will find a detailed explanation of how to find your point of turn. Bear in mind it may vary a little from car to car, so practice in your own vehicle as much as possible.
Not quite - if you go to the drivinghelp website - address above - and click on lessons, then parking - you will find a full description of how to find the turning point :-)
i think an easier method is if you count three bays before the bay you want to park into, then level up your door handle with the end line of it then straight away full left lock instead :)
i don't know whatevers easiest for you, i think the method i was told hasn't been a problem for me! but good work on the driving videos, been ALOT of help :) xo
wow, this looks easy when watching, wait till u do it on ur test. I did my driving test yesterday and my driving was almost perfect, only had 3 errors until I did the stupid bay parking which made me fail, i'm so pixxxd. why is it more difficult on ur test to do a perfect one?
Your son should be able to park in any bay, not just at the test centre - so so not being able to practice there shouldn't make any difference. The question is why did he fail - was it 'control' or 'observations'?
hey, does it have to be at a 90degree angle, its so much easier to go in at a different angle for me, or to go straight up opposite and reverse all the way back.
also are you penalised for not being straight in the bay?
No, it doesn't have to be at a 90 degree angle - it's just that it's simpler for most people that way. If you prefer a different angle, go for it. The examiner will judge you on your car control and level of observation and overall safety - not the method of achieving that.
Get the car as straight as you can - if you are slightly 'off' it's ok - but it's not ok if one of the wheels is on or over a line and it's not ok if part of the car is dangerously close to another vehicle.
thanks so much iv got my test a week today and that was the only thing i was worried about! Thnaks so much its cleared up a lot of doubts about when to start turning back to the right !
Fair point. If you click the link to the drivinghelp website next to the video above, then click 'lessons' then click 'bay parking', you will find this video is part of a detailed lesson which describes exactly where your point of turn is. The manoeuvre is really quite simple when you've practiced it a few times. :-)
Not correct, I'm afraid. It's only necessary to indicate if another road user will benefit - there's no need to indicate to thin air! Just make sure you do your observations properly. Can you see anyone in this video worth indicating to?!
Good point - this video was made as part of a free online video lesson at drivinghelp. If you click on the link above (to the right of the video) it will take you to the site - here you can click on lessons, then parking and you will be able to navigate to all the advice you need on how to find your point of turn!
It is really helpful video, however, do you agree that rather than saying "about a metre" , just say "when the rear of your car becomes in front of the centre of the bay just before the target bay">>>
that's may help and make it easier.
Also the important thing is to keep a car gap between your car and the bay.
It makes no difference - notice that when the car reverses in, it doesn't cross over the lines of the bays either side, so if there were cars there it wouldn't touch them. Actually, if you are parking between two other cars it's easier to see if you are coming in correctly. Just make sure you stop if you aren't!
Within reason, the size of car doesn't make any difference - as long as it fits in the bay! The best thing to do is practice in a quiet area with no cars either side - with a bigger car you may need to adjust your point of turn a few inches, that's all. As with all manoeuvres, just keep practising and adjusting slightly until you have it just right - then it won't matter if there are cars either side or not :-)
i have also trouble with knowig when the back of my car hits the other cars. i live in big city so it's very important for me to know how to park in tight spaces, but i just can't!
If you're now talking about parallel parking, that's a different video! To practise how far back to go, use a wall reverse up to it, get out and have a look, reverse a couple of inches closer, get out have a look - keep doing this until you are nice and close to the wall without touching it. This should help you get some perception of how close you can go without actually hitting it.
do you do all this with clutch control or use gas aswell please i want to know all this before i start driving?
mrvideouploads1 2 weeks ago
@mrvideouploads1 you use gas as well. in fact, to do this particular manoeuvre you first have to burn the engine out (full rev count) so that the car can function properly when reversing.

is this right?
measure the line until its by ur face then full lock, you will park in the next bay?
rosieavfc82 2 years ago
Not quite - if you go to the drivinghelp website - address above - and click on lessons, then parking - you will find a full description of how to find the turning point :-)
DrivingHelp 2 years ago
wow that was perfect, how many times did you have to repeat it ?
libed91 2 years ago
Just the once - first time, every time! If you go to the website, you'll see how it's done :-)
DrivingHelp 2 years ago
i think an easier method is if you count three bays before the bay you want to park into, then level up your door handle with the end line of it then straight away full left lock instead :)
i don't know whatevers easiest for you, i think the method i was told hasn't been a problem for me! but good work on the driving videos, been ALOT of help :) xo

wow, this looks easy when watching, wait till u do it on ur test. I did my driving test yesterday and my driving was almost perfect, only had 3 errors until I did the stupid bay parking which made me fail, i'm so pixxxd. why is it more difficult on ur test to do a perfect one?
NIGHTMARE108able1 2 years ago
i dont see why bay parking is so important really. i find bay parking the most annoying out of everything.... cant i just wack it in frontways :D

OH my god i feel uncomterble driving this kind of car. i mean driving in the right side LOL i think this is in UK RIGHT??
mastervictor123 2 years ago
My son failed this, so failed his test. I understand its only done if the test centre has parking bays.
So I went up with him, so he could repeat it and I could see where he was going wrong, after practising in a tesco car park
However the test centre manager came out and said that we weren't allowed to practise, despite the centre being empty as it was a saturday afternoon.
If they are only allowed to do this manouver in their test centre should you not be allowed to practise there ?
hemmwa1990 2 years ago
Your son should be able to park in any bay, not just at the test centre - so so not being able to practice there shouldn't make any difference. The question is why did he fail - was it 'control' or 'observations'?
DrivingHelp 2 years ago
thanks so much I had to do this on my driving test and i passed thank u for helping me i was so worried about this manoeuvre!

Great news! Well done and thanks for letting us know.
DrivingHelp 2 years ago
hey, does it have to be at a 90degree angle, its so much easier to go in at a different angle for me, or to go straight up opposite and reverse all the way back.
also are you penalised for not being straight in the bay?
beanem 2 years ago
No, it doesn't have to be at a 90 degree angle - it's just that it's simpler for most people that way. If you prefer a different angle, go for it. The examiner will judge you on your car control and level of observation and overall safety - not the method of achieving that.
Get the car as straight as you can - if you are slightly 'off' it's ok - but it's not ok if one of the wheels is on or over a line and it's not ok if part of the car is dangerously close to another vehicle.

Nope - it doesn't matter how hard I try, I can't understand what you're saying :-)

What gets me is knowing when to full lock, at what point
smcnottz 2 years ago
Fair point. If you click the link to the drivinghelp website next to the video above, then click 'lessons' then click 'bay parking', you will find this video is part of a detailed lesson which describes exactly where your point of turn is. The manoeuvre is really quite simple when you've practiced it a few times. :-)

When the white line meets near the centre of your left window turn full lock left

He should be indicating to let pedestrians know
Moarphine 2 years ago
Not correct, I'm afraid. It's only necessary to indicate if another road user will benefit - there's no need to indicate to thin air! Just make sure you do your observations properly. Can you see anyone in this video worth indicating to?!
DrivingHelp 2 years ago
Good video, really helpful, but how do you judge when to start steering to the left? something I'm never sure about.
HibernianUK 2 years ago
Good point - this video was made as part of a free online video lesson at drivinghelp. If you click on the link above (to the right of the video) it will take you to the site - here you can click on lessons, then parking and you will be able to navigate to all the advice you need on how to find your point of turn!
DrivingHelp 2 years ago
It is really helpful video, however, do you agree that rather than saying "about a metre" , just say "when the rear of your car becomes in front of the centre of the bay just before the target bay">>>
that's may help and make it easier.
Also the important thing is to keep a car gap between your car and the bay.

i tell you what you try parking that slow in tesco the amount of horns that go off ......

what if there are cars in the other parkinglanes?
meesternadim 2 years ago
It makes no difference - notice that when the car reverses in, it doesn't cross over the lines of the bays either side, so if there were cars there it wouldn't touch them. Actually, if you are parking between two other cars it's easier to see if you are coming in correctly. Just make sure you stop if you aren't!
DrivingHelp 2 years ago
but what if its a bigger car? i have an mitsubishi carisma, is it diffrent with my car?
meesternadim 2 years ago
Within reason, the size of car doesn't make any difference - as long as it fits in the bay! The best thing to do is practice in a quiet area with no cars either side - with a bigger car you may need to adjust your point of turn a few inches, that's all. As with all manoeuvres, just keep practising and adjusting slightly until you have it just right - then it won't matter if there are cars either side or not :-)
DrivingHelp 2 years ago
i have also trouble with knowig when the back of my car hits the other cars. i live in big city so it's very important for me to know how to park in tight spaces, but i just can't!
meesternadim 2 years ago
If you're now talking about parallel parking, that's a different video! To practise how far back to go, use a wall reverse up to it, get out and have a look, reverse a couple of inches closer, get out have a look - keep doing this until you are nice and close to the wall without touching it. This should help you get some perception of how close you can go without actually hitting it.

Oke thanks ^_^!

this is the hardest maneuver in my opinion
