Glorious. I too performed this in Berlin at Tacheles and The Berlin Philharmonie, so difficult and challenging and funny. Should anyone want to see another one Don Pasquito, also from Facade, is on my site. Jeremy is marvellous in this. Great voice.
One of the greatest pieces to memorize and warm up with for acting. I still remember these words to this day and use it as a means to warm up before going on stage. :)
Queen Victoria sitting shocked upon the rocking horse Of a wave said to the Laureate this minx of course is as sharp as any lynx and blacker deeper than the drinks quite as Hot as any hottentot without remorse For the minx said she And the drinks You can see Are as hot as any hottentot and not the goods for me!
Captain Fracasse stout as any water butt came stood With Sir Bacchus both drinking the black tarr'd grapes blood plucked among the tartan leafage by the furry wind whose grief age could not wither like a squirrel with a gold star nut.
Where Lord Tennyson in laurels wrote a gloria free, In a borealic iceberg came Victoria, she Knew Prince Albert's tall memorial took the colors of the floreal And the borealic iceberg floating on they see, New arisen Madam Venus for whose sake from far Came the fatt and zebra'd emperor from Zanzibar where like golden bouquets lay far Asia, Africa Cathay All laid before that shady lady by the fibroid Shah.
Sailors come To the drum Out of Babylon, Hobby horses Foam the dumb, Sky rhinocerous glum, Watched the courses of the breakers rocking horses and the Glaucis Lady Venus on the settee of the horse hair sea,
could anybody, for the love of peace and for the ease of my poor soul (lol) write down the lyrics? i have been listening and listening to it and understood nothing except for a queen victoria and an emperor from zanzibar. lol. pls ha mercy !
@LilHoneyMama yeah, it's a bit obscure, it's not as popular as Shakespeare or whatever. I only know about it because i'm studying it at college at the moment.
This is actually used in a lot of speech classes, theater in particular because it helps for the person to learn to articulate and do it well at faster speeds. <3
@SatoTM3 no i would never speak for delinquents like you, who find words without substance as ammusing as fly buzzing around shit! i think youre the retard when a few meaningless shapes give you an erection!
I'm not sure, but could this be from the musical "My fair Lady"? Because it sounds a little like Professor Higgins teaching Eliza how to speak. (Shame on me, I don't know the whole musical.)
He also was the narrator in "Song of the Unicorn". ;)
Yes, He has been in My Fair Lady. Not in the movie with Audrey, though.
He narrates Brideshead Revisited too. I was very surprised when I saw the Brideshead-series for the first time and recogniced Charles as the voice I had been listening to the past few weeks.
I can make it all the way through 0:36 but after that I just screw up haha

do you mean Song of the Unicorn: A Merlin Tale?
is that for kids?
bubololo 3 years ago
^^ Yes, that's right.
But his impressive voice was reason enough for me to buy the CD.
Oh, and if you like to hear him sing, too, here's another tip: Unexpected Dreams - Songs from the Stars. ;) Songs sang by several actors.
8Undertaker8 3 years ago 2
@8Undertaker8 the song you are thinking of is The Rain in Spain. this piece is called Hornpipe and it is from Facade
DrLightingBoard 1 year ago
It's not from anywhere - It's an art song or a lied. The poem is written by Edith Sitwell and I think the music is from some guy named Walton :D
God, I love his voice! I love how he says 'Cathay' :))
muffmaiden 3 years ago 4
@beelzibubbles I have this version of Facade on cassette. It's the best one IMO. Will dig it out and post more details if anyone is interested.
