  • True music that's sung beautifuly

  • Just LOVE this version by the legendary Skeeter Davis!!!! The only one I was familiar with before was the version by Patience and Prudence which is also very nice. Great tunes from an era gone by but will NEVER be forgotten. And my 14-year-old niece loves this music, too, and HATES the garbage being recorded today. Just shows how timeless these tunes from the 50's and 60's really are.

  • THE GREAT SKEETER.

  • this is the good country music the old kind....

  • This track did indeed introduce Skeeter Davis to the Rock&Roll charts.

  • SKEETER FUCKING DAVIS DAYUUUUMM

  • @seonfox Crap Idiot

  • @burnley5960 What's worse than a crap idiot? A crap idiot who likes Skeet Skeet Davis.. LOL

  • @seonfox as I told you on your channel Most English people dont like country and as a rule nor do I Patsy Cline has no where near the voice of the best of the 1960s British Girls Helen Shapiro Dusty Pet Clark ETC would blow her away, then from Newzealand Judy Durham has 1000 times the voice!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • @seonfox AND I SUPPOSE DUSTY WAS CRAP AS WELL? NOT !!!!! DUSTY SPRINGFIELD WAS ONE OF THE VERY BEST AND ONCE AGAIN SHE HAD TEN TIMES THE VOICE OF PATSY CLINE AS DOES OUR VERY OWN PET CLARK AND THEN THERE'S BILLY DAVIES FROM THE LATE 1960S AND JACKIE DE SHANNON I SUPPOSE THEIR CRAP AS WELL? DO BEHAVE

  • Comment removed

  • @seonfox THERE IS NO WAY YOUR A WOMAN SO AS I SAID BEHAVE DAVE

  • @burnley5960 ABOUT THE ONLY POINT ID GIVE YOU DAVE IS THE DOORS JIM WAS PURE CLASS

  • @seonfox I THINK MOST OF THE UK HALF OF THE USA AND MOST OF THE COMMONWEALTH WOULD DISAGREE WITH YOU WHAT ABOUT DUSTY WAS SHE CRAP AS WELL CHRIST YOUR A GRADE ONE FAGGOT

  • @seonfox Helen Shapiro and The Seekers (lead singer for the latter was Judith Durham) were both very big stars in the 60s and had strings of Top 10 hits under their belts. You reckon Skeeter Davis is an "ugly dog"? Maybe that's because she might have been ill when some of the later pics shown on this clip were taken. She died of cancer a few years ago and cancer does tend to make sufferers look somewhat haggard.

  • Such a great song from the 'baby boomer' era of the 50's & 60's ~ brings back many fond memories when this received much airplay on AM radio just as FM was being introduced~! Thanks for posting~!

  • She & HIm did a great cover of this song.

  • Love Skeeter Davis.. Thank you Skeeter for all the great songs xxx

  • great music

  • i love this song and love sketter. Barbados miss you

  • This is considered country? Wow, I guess I like country music.

  • @OiNise I know, seems like Petula Clark or something (If you know who that is, The lady that sings "Downtown". Not very country.

  • @ScienceProjek Pet Clark is English and like Skeeter Davis is one of the very best she can still cut it at 75 years of age

  • @ScienceProjek Its not meant to be most English people dont like country,as a rule I dont but certain performers i love Ie Marty Robbins Skeeter The Man in Black Pet Clarke is more than a match for anyone as is Helen Shapiro Dusty Springfield Paul Jones Et All

  • One of the best country voices that are now still.

  • I have been around way before Patience & Prudence and there have been a few good versions of this song, but this is definitely the version that tops them all!Rest in peace,Skeeter...you were one of the greats!

  • @wes50smusic1 - Patience & Prudence DID do a great version, but I like the arrangement and vocals better here.

  • Immortal! Brings tears to my eyes every time! Guarranteed! How about you?

  • @apoo95

It reminds me of wonderful summers in 1964-65 and great music like this was everywhere.. I get a great feeling , like sensing an aroma from many years past and the memories that evokes.

  • What a singer..............great.

  • LUF IT !!!

  • @annatheduck Considering the fact that they have two CD's out comprised almost entirely of songs written by Deschanel and Ward, I would consider them very artistic but, then again, I am not an art critic and neither are you.

And if one should be ashamed of covering another person's song, then 90% of all bands should be ashamed. Including Elvis, Micheal Jackson, and The Beatles.

  • nice song, gone to soon

  • Nice song

  • i luv this song by skeeter davis this is what u call the nashville sound

  • Wow, never heard this one! Patience & Prudence's version is the first one I remember, but this is a great version. Thanks for posting.

  • There is a sweetness and innocence about her voice on this song. Love it!

  • This is my favorite version. There's several others out there but this is the real deal for me.

  • Thanks for posting. My favorite Skeeter song.

  • The original was not by Patience and Prudence but by The Bell(e) Sisters. It was a slightly different song than what it evolved into, and it had the title 'Boom Boom ,My Honey" Their version is on "Before They Were Hits" vol.8

  • I listen to the music channels on TV, Then pick my favs and add them to my U-Tube on the computer.

  • my theme song, still love it,,,,,,,,,,,wow, talk about taking ya back!!!

  • Camping with my family....ah huh, um hum....playing bean bag toss....ah huh, um hum....

  • I've heard this song a lot!

    first by skeeter davis

    second by viola willis

and the most recent with zooey deschanel "she & him"!!

and I love the three versions!

  • @brennan1504

I second that emotion, brennan! I adore all 3 versions too...along with the earlier ones in the 50's by Teresa Brewer & Patience and Prudence. You OBVIOUSLY have good taste in music! :)

  • THE WONDERFUL SKEETER,GREAT VOICE.

  • can i sure..... lol

  • sugarbear286 Skeeter was my all time favorite when I was in highschool .I even had a chance to meet her when she was performing at the grand old opry. She was walking down the main street in Nashville.Skeeter signed my program from the opry she had been performing that afternoon.I thought I died and went to heaven.I still have it after all these years.RIP Skeeter. You still are a great one who will live forever in my heart.

  • I like this version by Skeeter Davis better than the one by Patience and Prudence.

  • Played and sang all of Skeeter's songs, reflecting every innocent emotion and boyfriend love and crisis I had. What memories.

  • Too bad we have to get along without Skeeter Davis!

  • You know, folks, I have the pretentious to know so many songs. But I just realized that Skeeter David actually sang this song. I was a younster when it came out. I've always loved it.

  • @otahg Me Too. She does a good job eh.

  • ...a~bit of a 'latin' beat makes this song interesting...and cool...!

  • two morons gave this a thumbs down and some idiot commented this is not country well so what? skeeter was the 1st female cross over artist she had hits in both charts and if she had been a little cleverer with the make up and styling would have been more well known than dolly parton and all the others put together

  • Cute song by a cute lady. "Skeeter" was given her nickname by her grandfather... To me, this is her best recording.

  • ...this should have hit big in england...1964...!

  • RIP Skeeter we miss you.

I saw her sing live at Wembley in the late 70s she was one of the first on that evening but i have always wondered why they did not turn the cameras on till after she has done her turn did the BBC have a gruge against her?

    Bob in the UK

  • ...skeeter was a independent woman...she was wonderful ...but sometimes displayed a attitude....I saw her in action after someone said to her "you have to do what I said' her reply..." hey man...I don't have to do NOTHIN!!G"

  • This does not sound like country music at all.

  • Skeeter Davis (aka Mary Frances Penick) graduated from my high school, Dixie Heights, in 1953. There is ahighway named after her in Dry Ridge, Kentucky. Sorry, but it's my only brush with fame and we loved her so much!

  • this is the greatest song!!! thanks so much for the post!!

    xxx

    Barb from CA

  • Always, always loved this song.

  • Look forward to the She & Him cover of this!

I think Zooey's voice is perfect for this song

    X

  • @georgiovids ha! she and him will shamelessly cover any kitchy thing, they dont have an artistic bone in thier collective bodies.

  • @annatheduck Let's agree to disagree. Both Volume One and Volume Two are great albums. The musicality of M. Ward is insane and when it's combined with Zooey's sweet yet subtle vocals you have such a distinctive sound emerge!

  • Greta song by a lovely lady...with the Anita Kerr singers (they were everywhere!!)..I can see why...this record was very well produced..and very good.

  • Shame it wasn't released here in the UK. I remember other singers covering this song (The Caravelles in the 1960s and Viola Wills in the late 1970s) and although I like all three versions, I prefer this one. I have heard the original by Patience and Prudence and also another cover by the late Teresa Brewer, neither of which I like at all.

  • The late great Skeeter Davis was such a HUGE talent. Wonderful voice....had no idea before now that she covered this song. I like the original by Patience & Prudence better, but this is a wonderful version. THANKS so much for sharing this delightful gem with us! :)

  • Probaly one of the only country songs that I do like...reminds me of my own relationship

  • I remember this when I was a little girl. Thanks for posting it. It brings me back to days with my parents. Love it. What a sweet unique voice Skeeter had. Totally draws you in.

  • I'll listen to any version of this song. It's a good song!

  • This song was actually a Teresa Brewer song. You can listen to it by searching youtube:

"Teresa Brewer - Gonna Get Along Without you now"

Many people covered Teresa's song but the original is the best.

  • Baloney.

The ''best'' version of ANY Song

    is the one that most

    pleases your Brain.

    Sales, Hype, and being 'first'

have absolutely nothing to do with it.

    L K R Palm Springs

  • @orallarry - WELL SAID.

    Annie :)

  • Love this song and Skeeters sweet song. Yes she should have been noted as much as any other country star.Shes better than most, espically now days.

  • Great singer, Skeeter. Too bad she was married to a prick. Pardon the French.

  • suits my mood perfectly today! glad I found it

  • remines me of tem...

  • Next to Patience & Prudence's version,this is my favorite rendition.God bless Skeeter Davis,who died in 2004.

  • I bought this over forty years ago.

My mom loved it too and if mom loved - then it MUST have been the best, as my mom was.

  • ppaulmorris: I love your remark about your mother! Ditto for mine! Actually I inherited this record from my mom.

  • Much better than Teresa Brewer's version!

  • No it's not. Teresa was the first one and without her none of these covers would exist.

I have it on my profile.

  • I know but I don't like Teresa Brewer's version at all. I much prefer this one and even Viola Wills's hit cover from the late 1970s. Sorry!

  • Comment removed

  • Without Teresa's original, there wouldn't be all of these covers. Teresa didn't get enough credit and the original lyrics had some of the same but then changed by Patience and Prudence. Then people copied Patience and Prudence thinking it was the original and not giving Teresa credit.

Teresa's original version was just better. She put soul into it.

  • @annie482000 As much as I like Teresa Brewer, I'll have to agree with you!

  • @cf1934 Seems like 21 others also agree! I think Skeeter's version is much more tuneful, and it sounds fab just listening to it through headphones. It's a shame it wasn't a hit here in the UK though. I like some of Ms Brewer's stuff but her version of this song just jangles my nerves.

  • very nice!

  • I love this song. It has so many meanings!
