but i do understand your point. the size and complexity of the federal system is overwhelming and can make an individual feel unimportant. i do feel the same way at times. i am not happy with 45% of what our government does ..but i need to look at the majority i can understand and hope for a better tommorow.
...and to petition our government when we disagree. what empowers us as citizens is our vote. the right to vote is sacred...i think it should even be compulsory to vote in every election. in that we empower the people to choose the government they have and stop belly acheing about it. i think more peole want a government that looks to protect it's citizens and not make necessities in life a privelige of the wealty and influental, but to lay a common ground. oh my...i could go on for days...
...i did not created it. i choose to look at people in general 9including our elected officals) as people who go to washington to serve. money (with it's power to help re-elect people) has made the waters of politics very dirty and i am afraid until that power of influence is removed, we will be weighted down forever. i do not think that pelosi ment if you disagree with your government you are a terriost. i think you may have that statement out of context. it is our right to disagree, protest,..
i do not fear the government. i think there are many in power who do not focus on what is important, but that is a world problem not confined to the U.S. really though, if there was something of minee, or yours for that matter, that they wanted they would find a legal way of obtaining it. that goes for a rich man of finance, a bank or anyone who had powerful connections. i am not glad of that, but that is the system handed down from generation to generation. i wish it was not this way, but...
@bduhe219 My children are homeschooled. They know a lot of history. Wish we could go their as a family. These children seem ignorant and I am not sure what the point of their discourse is. We didn't bother watching much of it.
@julieification my issue with home schooling is the inability of parent/teachers, or even private teaches being able to expose children to the everday experiences of a diversified teaching staff as well as interaction with children that are different from their own experience. i think a majority who chose home schooling do not wish their children exposed to people who are different than themselves. i thiink children who grow up in the real world benefit from exposure to different people.
@bduhe219 Get outside of your box. You claim public school is the "real" world? HA! Says who? Those in the box like you of course. My children have a VERY real life and interact with people of all ages. They play the piano & guitar, are in 4H, have many friends, raise livestock and have trained their dogs and competed with them. They can sew and make leather projects. One of my sons made his own western saddle. My children all ride horses. One daugter plays piano for a nursing home.
@julieification first of all, i did say most, not youin particular. it is reality to be exposed to multi-cultural, multi-raced and multi-religious people..it is very rare we socialize outside our oun raced, religion or culture..in most cases. all the wonderful accomplishments your children have done are a great example of you as a parent...all i'm saying is it could have been done with them also going to public school. schooling does not have to stop at 3pm.....
@julieification...i take no issue with you as a parent...on the contrary, you are an example. i am saying all the articlues and assesments on home schooling as a general assesment is that the majority are highly unskilled and lack the ability to give a broad and diverse experience or knowledge that a public school education can give them. i was a catholic private school educated child, but i did attent public school from k-3 and i still think it can be a wonderful experience.....
@julieification ....to parents who take an interest in their public school. home schooling is usually geared to people who wish to bar their children from races, religions and other cultural esposure that they are not in favor. i'm afraid that is a terrible indictment on out society. if you are a diverse parent and encourage your childrn's exposure to all aspects of the human experience, then you are turly an example for all parents. it sounds like you are and i wish all children had that.
@julieification it is a sad statement to say that most of children are not exposed to all aspects of the human experience. you are an example for us all. your children sound well rounded, well educated, and seem to have the full experience of a wonderful shildhood. it is too bad 90% of children are not as lucky. i want my children to experience diverse religious understanding, different cultures and races, music, art and literature...all a well rounded exposure. not all feel that way.....
@julieification it was wonderful to exchange ideas on this topic. i think you are not the rule to the home schooling experience (just my opinion) and i did not make that general statement as an indictment on what you do for your children. i think (in my opinion) that exposure to all children, especially children you would not normally socialize with, is better for a well rounded child. i am thankful you may see my point as i see yours. thanks so much.
Most of the homeschoolers I know have bright children. Most of the 4Hers in our club are homeschooled. My son's best friend acts in plays and sings. Our neighbors homeschool 2 very bright talented girls. A few weirdos homeschool, but they are the exception. There are weirdos everywhere, correct? Please don't denigrate homeschooling because the govt which is growing by leaps and bounds wants to eliminate it so they can have everyone's child in order to mold them into obedient "global citizens".
@julieification well...i will agree to disagree with you in this matter. i see thingds differently. public scholl, for all it's bad qualities, is still ibetter than having no education. i think classes should be smaller, teachers schould be compensated better, and i think a wider rande of arts, social sciences, and language, should be broadened. i do not have a d,is trust of my government. i am disappointed when i think my government waste it's efforts on issues i think are unimportant....
@julieification ...but i will say i fault a govenment who devales the importance of health care, arts, and work opportunity development over tax breaks for those who do not need them and put the burrden of the cost of governmrnt on the backs of middle-class, poor and many who cannot afford to contribute more. i do not think an open exposure to cultures and the development of yhoung miinds to dream to be a bad thinig. i think a conservative crriculum in schools are stagnant and cause more harm...
@julieification ..than good. i have studies the montissory method and fine a liberal arts crriculum and maybe secondary emphisis on general studies a differnt approach to widing a differnt side of the brain (if you know what i mean)....fo me i wish homeschooling was more in this line and public schools as well. i was stating a geralization when i said most home schoolers are isolated from the real world...in most cases on purpose. many families choose taht method to keep their children.....
@julieification away from what they deem a "liberal agenda" of schools. as a liberal i am always offended by that gerneralization of an amorlal view of liberals. i think that perception is havested in a "conservative" minded family centered agenda. but...i do not think all conservatives bigots as i would hope consevatives would not think all liberals amoral degenerates. i will end it at that. from yyour comments i take it you are offended by mny assertions of my opinions on home schooling.
@julieification i never once singlesd you out to be the poiint of my objection to this method of home schooling. i never once called you a bad parent for doing this. i stated all my objections from many articles i have read, opinions from teachers as well as members on school boards. i can only say you are an example of how it should be done if an educated parent wishes to broaden their childs educational development. the majority of home schooling parent s are not. if you would like me to...
@julieification ..remove my post i will. i am just concerned by the misinformation many parent feed their children. i wish our public schools would broaden arts and language and develop a childs spirit and adventure along with the general studies that already are on the agenda. i hope you would agree that a child needs more than what is offered to develop ionto a great person in the future. a society is measure in it's arts and development when all these things are encouraged. thanks
@bduhe219 I am not offended by you speaking your mind. I DO distrust the govt. Pelosi stated that all who do are terrorists. So I guess I will be tracked down for this reason as well.
