i loved when on the tv they switched over to the london and elton was calling the usa his friends from across the sea or something like that, its the season of friendliness and we are all one! :D
He is singing in a lower key thats why the falsetto is not there! Not that he coundnt sing in the higher key but prob cause his voice probs again with the threat of the nodual's returning!! Great that he has found a deeper soundin voice but still capturing the essence of his sound at the same time!! :O) Fab stuff!!!
Elton John is great. But, nothing new here. Looks and sounds lip-synched. No one sounds that good after vocal surgery. This is common place in the music industry.
@borntobewilder9 His voice completly changed after surgery, he can't hit them high notes. This is what his vocals are like now. I dont think its lip-synched at all, he never moves his mouth much when he sings anyway lol. Also unlike Justin Beiber and todays crap (exclusing Gaga), Elton has talent and does not need too :D
@mjhart123, Could be true. However, when I see concerts, it's quite obvious that most bands are not singing. They sound just like they did in the studio. It takes the fun out of the concerts. If I want to hear studio music, I'll do it on my own. If this is the new Elton, it's not too bad, though.
@borntobewilder9 Yeah its true that his voice changed and he lost his Falsetto and his voice become deeper. Elton sounds different in his studio recordings as he always uses different harmonies and tones. His backing songers do sound similar though. Well i think we can both agree that Elton is good no matter what lol : )
@mjhart123, Yeah! When Goodbye YBR was released, I was more into hard rock. But certain sounds like the intro piano on Bennie and the mysterious, " Funeral For A Friend / Love Lies Bleeding" really changed my mind about what is good and what isn't. I still like listening to Madman and Goodbye LP's. That's when he was at his best, I think.
@borntobewilder9 Yeah, i agree. I am 18 and my favourite singers are Elton, Dolly and Alice Cooper.i'm not into all this Justin Beiber and Cheryl Cole stuff, they have no talent compared to legends like Elton, Alice and Dolly. I also like his song Tiny Dancer and I Geuss Thats Why They Call it The Blues.

It's not the original as people have pointed out, but I think it sounds great. The arrangement is different; however, it really works for me and he still has a strong voice which even the worst critic would have to admit -- especially when one considers this is NEARLY 40 YEARS LATER. Give Sir Elton a break as he has most certainly earned it. GREAT POST -- Cheers!!
Fantastic, I still think he can hit that high note though, despite his age and voice change. He's clearly a perfectionist and doesn't want to attempt it.
@anagramish Correct but he does still retain some falsetto which you'll hear perfectly on the live performance of 'Elton's Song' in 1999 and on 'All The Young Girls (Love Alive) live B side of a single about eight years ago that I can't remember the name of. He can still do it but it severely reduced and he most certainly doesn't want to attempt any high notes live (he does so in Honky Cat live at Ephesus 2001 whch you can find on youtube, and only just gets away with it).
I agree, something strange happens because I have heard old singers like Elton and I think they sounds better than 15 o 20 years ago... maybe it's my imagination...
Much/ much deeper that 30 years ago!
... thanks for this voice, these lyrics!

He looks like my great aunt here. No, but seriously, musical genius. Love this song. Especially the original.

He isnt as good as he used to be - but he is still amazing.
backing vocalists cover the high notes...but thats what happens when you get on. He still rules.

@scottik187 He had an opperationg to get rid of throat nodules and as a result he lost his amazing falsetto (high voice). So its not an age thing
