@princebaber: Higher price tag doesn't mean more zoom with camcorders. HD camcorders these days are actually the opposite—the more expensive models have less zoom. This is mainly because the high-end camcorders have large sensors, which means there is less space for a big zoom lens. Smaller sensor camcorders, especially ones that record standard definition video, tend to have the longest zooms (and the cheapest cost).
hello. do you know if i can change the recording fps with the Panasonic HDC-HS20. I'm in Europe, i'm doing a slow motion video and i was told i would better record at a higher fps (50 or 60). Can i do that with this cam. Been watching, you guys are great. Thanks a lot for the help. Bye
HOW THE HELL, do you import videos into Vista from this camera?! I have tried for 4 hours, using the SD card. The box didn't come with a program called, 'HD Writer 2.5E' which is apparently what you need to use. I can't find it ANYWHERE to buy in the UK, so this camera is pretty useless at the moment. I have loads of videos I want to import, but, there is NOTHING I can do to import them, I have tried all the cables too.
@TheKoiStudios HEY I USE AN MINI USB AND WHEN I TRY TO IMPRT MY FOOTAGE ONLY THE PICTURES APPEAR NOOOOO VIDEO HELP!!!! i open the 100dsmc folder and inlcludes my pics :( HELP!!
@leafblowinSK8 Ok, I use any video converter, and just convert it into MPEG, it takes HOURS for me, but its worth it! 8D and then go to the output folder and put into your video into your editing program ;)
I have this very camera and when I'm filming during mornings or night or even in friggin' daylight, there it is. Vertical smear in all its smearing glory. Not just in one streetlight or one car on the street, no no, it's EVERY streetlight and every car. Did I buy a piece of crap and I just have to take it or can I do something to fix this problem?

I was a Panasonic devotee for years and had a DVX100 and HVX200 camcorders amongst other P2 gears and equipment but Panasonic products let me down each time I was shooting a major project specially its HVX200 camera and P2 devices Panasonic camcorders are moody and UNRELIABLE, so think twice before buying one.
I really don't feel the new 2009 lineup, though, from Panasonic. (Especially considering that the Panasonic GS400 is WAY past due for a successor.) As a film student, AVCHD formatting from either flash or HDD is not as handy while on a film shoot. Hopefully HDR will stay a long while.
On a 4GB card in Full HD, AVCHD it will record around 30 mins. of footage, so you'd be lucky to store 4 - 41/2 hours footage, and the standard battery in record mode will be hard pushed to achieve a full 2 hours recording...speaking from a year of experience owning this model
I have it, and I can say it's definitely tiny, so you really can bring it anywhere with you like a cellphone.
The quality in dark places isn't great, though. I think the canon hf10 has a better quality, but it's bigger and more expansive.
Also, beware about AVCHD compatibility.
A managed to import videos with final cut express 4, but I have to shoot in P24 mode and apparently, most people are frustrated because of compatibility issues, both on macs and PCs.
does ANYONE have test footage from this cam? i fail to believe SOMEONE didnt pop a memory card in it and took some 30s shots and uploaded them some place.
As mentioned in the video, this is a newer camera, using 17 Mbps AVCHD.. ..better than the old cameras. Until we see some tests of these new AVCHD devices, we won't know if they are better or worse than the HDV for quality.
And the bitrate means pretty much nothing. AVCHD is a better compression format than the older HDV. It doesn't need the same amount of bitrate to equal HDV.
IT IS SHIT...I KNOW...I BOUGHT ONE !

are you using your manual controls?
skater11295 2 years ago
It happens with both manual and auto. This is a 3ccd camera so I'm guessing there is not much I can do, or is there?
Dondonovan 2 years ago
well you could lower your exposure (iris) and raise the shutter so that the lights arent as bright and wont smear
a polarizing filter may help a little bit
but this happens with almost every ccd based camera, but imo ccd is still better than cmos
skater11295 2 years ago
Thanks a lot for your advise. I will try it out and see if it works.

no problem

How make it 2,073,600 dots if only 520,000 relative pixel in CCD sensor?
This not real full hd camcorder?

3 individual CCDs

until AVCHD has a bit rate greater than 25 Mbps, I think I'll use HDV.
