The Alphas had it easy, b/c either (a) their parents could probably afford to pay their way through college w/out the jocks having to work for it themselves, or (b) many of the jocks may have had scholarships, which would allow them to attend more-or-less for free.The nerds were saying most folks don't have it as easy as the Alphas did.

In the original script, Stan had a brother who was a nerd that he avoided at all costs so that he would never be associated with outcasts. Sometimes, it takes loosing something or someone to make us see what an idiot we've been.
