  • Fun fact: this actually isn't Conor in the "interview" it's Todd Fink of The Faint, doing a very good impression.

  • interview tweaked me the fuck out.

  • This interview hahah

  • This makes me laugh every single time!

  • just a few minutes... xD

  • Gotta Love how real Conor is in the background and at around 8:20 ish he's singing the word cheesy! lolz I love im.

  • @CatieIvy i'm not sure, but i think he's singing "it will be easy", like he's quoting the song he's about to play (a song to pass the time)

"i kept singing today, it will be easyyyy" :P not sure though

  • God i love the faint

  • god i loce

  • this song changed my life.

  • This song popped up on my iPod the morning after I woke up from a suicide attempt on New Year's Eve a year and 4 months ago . Listening to it still gives me chills and tears of joy.

"So close to dying, that I finally can start living."

Although I doubt you will ever see this comment, thank you for writing this song, Conor. It kept me from finishing the job.

  • :)

  • I don't think the interview is funny, it might be fake but it's quite wise and brilliant what conner said.

  • @vianey8046 It's a bit of both, I always laugh at how witty the comments are.

  • ""An Attempt to Tip the Scales" includes what is ostensibly an interview with the band's frontman, Conor Oberst. However, Oberst has admitted that the interview was something of a joke, intended to poke fun at the dark tone of the album. Conor's voice is impersonated in the interview by Todd Fink of The Faint and Commander Venus. The man interviewing is Matt Silcock, a former member of Lullaby for the Working Class." - Wikipedia

  • @julkey >> Wikipedia.

  • The interview is fake, I hope you all know that.

  • 7:02 "no not really it's more a need for felaccio" hahaha

  • @johnperezskates i did not notice that hahaha!

  • "How long have you worked at this station?"

    "Oh, just a few minutes"

  • when I was a teenager i was in the mental hospital for the 2nd time and there was this beautiful girl who sang this song to me. At the time I only new 3 other bright eyes songs and so went I got home i downloaded a bunch of bright eyes songs and been hooked ever since.

  • @missclaritystar That was indeed a beautiful discovery.

  • "They were all named Padraic, so that's... they all got one song." xD

  • There's so many funny things in the interview after the song. Like..

"Do you ever hear things that aren't really there?"

    "I'm sorry, what?"

    "Nevemind"

  • this is so funny

  • "Interview" is amazing...epic...hilarious

  • XD @ actual Conor in the background.

  • ummmmmm, a very lovely song. one of the greatest

  • 7:15 ... Thats conor in the backround forsure, not the interview.

  • yeah its a joke, im 24 im an infantryman in the army but this band will always make me tear up... i love bright eyes.

  • "now you mentioned your depression?"

    "no i didn't"

    "your from nebraska?"

    "yeah so"

    hahahaha

  • You all do realize, that's not really him talking at the end.. lol.. Oh could you be a conor fan and not know what his voice sounds like when he talks? hahaha. It's way too funny for life though. <3

  • im verry depressed, so watching this ehh:(

  • @justsunshine1 Become an Hero.

  • What's he saying in the background towards the end...?

He says fuck and Saddle Creek Records alot.

    Love him!

  • -how long have you been working here?

    -a few minutes

  • He's brilliant!

  • hahah hes funny =)

  • the interview isnt real. its one of his all-time low and he regrets it

  • @Zebztheshit2 What are you basing his remorse on?

  • hahahahahaha I wish the person at the end was ACTUALLY conor oberst.. he would say all of this

"so before you mentioned your depression."

    "No I didn't.."

  • he is the man (:

  • In this interview, the fake Oberst presents a strange, contradictory explanation of his attitude towards his music. It acknowledges criticisms of his lyrics as overblown and insincere, which had begun to appear as the popularity of the band increased, but responds by stating that the lyrics are meant for personal interpretation. Oberst later commented that "It was a way to make fun of ourselves because the record is such a downer. I mean, that's one part of who I am but I also like laughing."

  • i freaking love this interview.... 1st time i herd it i fell in love finding it is epic <3 :D

  • I hope you all realize that the interview is fake right?

  • @FullmetalJudgement whoever doesnt is not getting the point of the interview

  • fuckin sad song, starting to love this band

  • This guy is so extremly smart....

i think hes awsome and the music is amazing. i think just like him, i just have more trouble puting it into words tho...

but i think everyone thinks like this sometimes.

  • fake

  • Haha the interviewer kinda gets creeped out in the end. Conor is awsome!!!

And he looks nothing like jake

  • jake

  • he really reminds me of the guy from donny darko. Anyone else?

he should've made the whole soundtrack to that movie

  • you suck balls

  • nope

  • not a question

  • ...stating a fact

  • yes i agree. the way he talks about his depression and neurosis reminded me of donny darko.

  • i am thinking about you pepa...

  • @tete2chou OH MY GOD, PERFORM AN HEROISM, PLEASE?!!1

  • i listen to this interview nonstop.

  • I love this song. I just wish it was longer cause it ends just when it gets amazing =(

  • i really like the interview...

  • u know its not him right?

  • i love this song but really does the interview really have to be attached? every time i burn a cd that ridiculous interview takes up the space of another song.

  • haha

  • I am in love with Conor Oberst for this interview.

  • It's Todd Fink, lead singer of The Faint. They were in a couple bands together and both from Omaha.

  • this is too incredible.

it also makes me wonder if i shouldn't look at the picture with this video?

  • Takes my breath away. :)

  • I love you and your music Conor Oberst. The interview makes this song twice as good. I've never heard anyone's voice like this before, or any songs like this. They all make me feel different things and the way he sings them, I just can't describe what his music means to me :(

He's truly to amazing for words.

  • I've heard its not conor in the interview at the end, is this right?

Is it true when he says his brother died in a bath tub?

    Great song and great album!

  • nononono.

    and conor is incredible.

  • nah its one of conors mates or somthing

  • the person that sounds like conor doing the interview at the end is todd fink, the lead singer of the faint, also from omaha.

and the entire "interview" is metaphorical.

  • @awolfinsheepswool

    How is it metaphorical?

  • @superova32000 no it isnt you can tell. haha his voice isn't shaky enough....I love Conor Oberst's voice. singing and speaking :D

  • fucking amazing...

  • that was simultaneously terrifying and beautiful. ahaha.

  • the interview made me cry,i love it so much!

&i dont care if its real or fake tbh..its still amazing, you cant argue with that.

    much love oberst <3

  • when the end of the song kicks in with all the music, ahhhhh so good

  • "Conor Oberst. However, Oberst has admitted that the interview was something of a joke, intended to poke fun at the dark tone of the album. Conor's voice is impersonated in the interview by Todd Fink of The Faint and Commander Venus. The man interviewing is Matt Silcock, a former member of Lullaby for the Working Class."

  • "Do you ever hear things that aren't really there?" Hahaha.

    Conor Oberst is amazing.

  • "I'm sorry what?"

  • hahaha! i love Conor.

    "in case she's listening."

"oh i didn't know she was real."

"she isn't. I made her up."

  • @X0XhallielinnXOX

he actually isn't the one who said that. His friend was impersonating him.

  • Comment removed

  • @comradehess obviously.

  • @X0XhallielinnXOX yeah, sorry i thought i canceled that post.

  • @X0XhallielinnXOX "She's just as real as me or you" lmao I love him he's the best!

  • @X0XhallielinnXOX it wasnt conor moron..

  • @LulzPheonix I didn't say it was.

  • @X0XhallielinnXOX that's not even conor oberst talking

  • @Mrganjaskim obviously.

  • @Mrganjaskim trolllllllllllllllllll

  • haha, yeah, this is tod fink from the faint impersonating conor. you can hear conor in the back near the end cursing. i love this, i could listen to it 24/7.

  • Those last couple minutes scare me.

  • uhmmm not to piss anyone off but thats not really conor talking. and if you listen the at the bottom of everything its pretty obvious. yeah it tricked me at first but its not him.

  • God, he's funny.

I swear, that interview always makes me smile.

He says one thing then is all "I didnt say that" xD So great <3

  • "you mentioned your depression"

    "no i didnt"

    haha

  • 7:06

    whats that

  • "can you make that sound stop please...

    YES"

"how long have you worked for this station"

    "...oh just a few minutes"

    LOL

  • hahahah i love the interview. i sure hope you guys are right and he did write this.

i think it's the singer from the faint posing as Conor. doesn't sound like him at all.

  • yeah, it's Todd Fink.

the guy interviewing is Matt Silcock.

anyway, my favorite is the "No I didn't..." and the Arienette part

  • Conor wrote the script, but the whole radio station is fake and the speaker isn't him.

  • the speaker is him. he and mike mogis did the interview. yeah, it was fake, but it was also awesome... and some of the things he says could be taken seriously anyway.

  • i think its the guy from the faint

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

    amazing song

    and trippy interview

im pretty sure its a joke, he was probably on acid or some shit

  • are you sure? I was so sure he had 5 dead brothers named Padraic who died in a bathtub! crap, what a surprise.

    honestly, no shit.

  • @genericusername337 hey do you no what the name of the song is about his brothers?

  • @TheYzkidpimp12 padraic my prince, and by the by, that interview is fake. that's his friend talking, not him...

  • My ipod randomly picked this song for me. I think it made me so happy I want to reward my ipod somehow. Maybe a new case? ^_^

  • he's a really deep person, i love his music

  • "Well I did have a brother that died in a bathtub. Drowned. Actually, I had five brothers that died that way. No, Im serious. My mother drowned one every year for five consecutive years. They were all named Padraic, so thats-they all got one song."

    BAHA he's a legend =]

  • if the interview is a joke is the facts that Conor tell are real or another joke ?

  • yes its a joke

  • aw i took him really seirusly hahaha

  • me too

  • its not connor speaking

  • it is so connor speaking!i

  • its todd fink, singer of the faint

  • is todd fink the interviewer?

  • no im not sure who the interviewer is but todd plays the part of connor

  • what!!!??? youve got to be kidding!! why wouldn't conor play the part of conor? it sounds exactly like him

  • nah its definately todd. its a fictional piss take interview, theres no need for conor to play himself

  • why wouldn't conor play himself!?!? butt it sounded exactly like him!

  • they both are from the same town so that would explain the similiar accents

  • @saviorxxself, If you have to ask, or still think what Conor says is a joke, you should probably listen a little closer.. I don't know how much more real one could get?

  • @BryonThomasBain It's not him mate. It's a friend of his from an old band that he was a part of. It's just a fun little joke that they added to the end of a pretty good song of his. It does sound very convincing though. Voice is a little off, but again, it's a joke.

  • @TheLumberjackHero You know I thought it didn't sound like him

  • @TheLumberjackHero I'm aware it's not actually Conor giving the interview, although Conor did write the script that is impersonated in the interview by Todd Fink of The Faint. He also admitted that it was "Something" of a joke. That doesn't wholly state that it is just a joke. Things that are said in jest are usually meant in a light hearted matter on that of things meant to poke fun at the ridiculous ways people tent to treat things of a serious manner. That in itself is the essence of Comedy.

  • this is one of my favorite song conor oberst had made,.

  • Let this be my tragic romance! OHHHH!

  • this is such a fucking good song.

The interview is great, but i kind of wish it was a separate track.

  • Comment removed

  • yeah, i agree. i forgot how good this song is.

    ..... gaara? is that you?

  • Love the song!

HAHA! That interview was greaaat. Was it fake? I confused.

  • Yeah I'm pretty sure it was fake..

  • It is. Look at the wikipedia article for Fevers and Mirrors.

  • yeah hence

"How long have you been working at the station?"

    "A few minutes"

    Or whatever.

  • Love this song. "So close to dying that I finally can start living"

btw does anyone know who the woman he sings about a lot is?

  • lol i felt the same about the interview the first time i heard it.

  • Connor is amazing.

I think this song's gonna be my obsession.
