@HELLTAC0 Every welder I've seen in the field has connected the ground to the pipe when welding on pipe like she did. Also the tailgate is smarter because you could accidentally weld the hood if you had the pipe on it and that would totally screw up the paint job. I think anyone would rather the inside of their tailgate get accidentally welded than the hood of the car.

@HELLTAC0 Every welder I've seen in the field has connected the ground to the pipe when welding on pipe like she did. Also the tailgate is smarter because you could accidentally weld the hood if you had the pipe on it and that would totally screw up the paint job. I think anyone would rather the inside of their tailgate get accidentally welded than the hood of the car.
