I wish I had known about this when I was 12 and got the role of Jaques in my summer camp production of As You Like It. I love Kevin Kline he is great! LOL Yeah I was a little miffed about being Jaques because I am, in fact, female (I wanted to be Rosalind soooo badly) but I soon learned that Jaques is a great part. I wore a beret and played it like a depressed beatnik
I saw Brian Bedford perform as Jacques at Shakespeare in the park, summer, 2005. What blew me away was that he started the monologue as a question. Cool interpretation. I would be interested where this scene, and where, in general, this movie version was shot. I was lucky to see Kevin Kline, winter 2007, in King Lear, at the Public Theatre in NYC. Impressive.
@tonytonytonyargh It was shot at Wakehurst Place, a never-before-filmed park in England. But it's supposed to be happening in Japan. Kenneth Branagh directed this film, and he reset in in Japan in the nineteenth century, when English traders made their homes there.
The horrible thing is that Branagh couldn't get an American distributor for this, so he had to sell it to HBO. It's shameful that the American movie industry has come to that.
I saw the travelling Shakespeare company perform this and it was fantastic! Jaques was
