@PANCHOMEX951 are you kidding me? seriously? boring, have you ever heard the original, better yet ever watched Happy Gilmore, when Chubbs aka Apollo Creed aka Carl Weathers plays it on piano, and almost puts the audience to sleep? This is Grant Green, who covered hundreds upon hundreds of songs, stretching his style to basically every aspect of music. He's the master of jazz groove, just being a boss and doing work, son.
I think the VIBES make this song here. Without The guy playing the Vibraphone What would this be? Does anyone know who is playing the VIBES ? Who is the VIBE MAN ?
Beyond technique really..He has his way of playing..Clipping notes here, sustaning them here..But really , for me, Grants appeal is his emotionality..Supreme feeling..Uplifting and sad at the same time.
My God, i miss this guy's playing so much. Grant was a guy who was equally at home playing a pop ballad,a one chord funky vamp in E9 or a heavily complicated bebop tune like " Esoteric". Unique guitarist who wasn't afraid to play a simple melody.
There isn't the jarring, though nice intro; he just goes straight to the melody. More importantly, the song is over a minute longer. Grant Green spends most of this time beautifully riffing the melody. If I get a chance I'll post a response.
Grant spent much of 1978 in hospital and, against the advice of doctors, went back on the road to earn some money. While in New York to play an engagement at George Benson's Breezin' Lounge, Grant collapsed in his car of a heart attack in New York City on January 31, 1979. He was buried in Greenwood Cemetery in his hometown of St. Louis, Missouri, and was survived by six children
I still have this on record...that's a lovely song to use for a very cool and mellow track...I wouldn't mess with one bit, just have someone to flow to it.

quadspeak: So true. There's no other way to say it. Very few could take a syrupy pop song and turn into a jazz masterpiece.
Grant once said "I'll play anything you want..it's ALL Blues basically" Amen.
