@kaishaku72 how come? just curious....I liked it personally because it really highlights where coach draws the line between father figure and coach. On the field, it's his way only. No talking back and you show up to work. "This is business I keep it football. Leave all other things at home". Off the field throughout the series you see Coach. show more compassion (Smash - steroids and Riggins in season 2 after taking off to Mexico). Notice the three big character-players didn't have dads?

@madrespectvolleyball Nice reply. I voted it up. However, I don't agree with "tough love" to this degree, and I certainly don't agree with hazing. A quick search reveals: the National Institutes of Health noted that "get tough treatments do not work and there is some evidence that they may make the problem worse".

@kaishaku72 fair enough, I agree I'm not down with hazing by any means and yes, to do this type of "motivation/punishment" often is not healthy for a young athlete. I think this was more an exceptional circumstance, that being Riggins drinking underage, showing up hungover and a with a lack of focus, it puts coach's job and reputation on the line. It's like running suicides til you puke. not good, but in the moment, may seem necessary. remember these kids are town celebrities and have egos too!

@kaishaku72 haha tell that to my old drill sergeants. We got shit done and worked to gain his respect and admiration. Granted the situation is different because he's the only one we had other than each other but what that man taught us and instilled in us will last forever. I kept going because I wanted to be the best I could be, I wanted to help other people succeed, and to gain their respect.
