My father's family comes from, and a few still live in Danese, WV. We would drive through Ansted on our way to visit our relatives before the new highway was built on the other side of Gauley Mountain. We despise the idea of strip mining, or mountain top removal. It's destroying what God created for us to enjoy.

Someday, someway, we MUST put a stop to the rape of our mountains. Homesteads, farms, cemetaries and historical (both recent and paleolithic) are being destroyed in a wholesale manner. IF anyone has any doubt of the impact of these mines, use "Google Earth" to zoom in on the southwestern part of WV satellite views. You'll see how BIG these operations are.

Sometimes there are more important things than the all mighty dollar. This is what they used to call strip mining. I guess its like everything else, they had to give it a less egressive name so the people would not make the connection. For those that care about the environment, coal mining is dead! Its only hope is the Chinese, who care nothing about the environment or human lives. Its time the coal miners find another job. Like most have already had to do.

Do you realize that there is no other way to make money in the area except in the coal mines? Without mines, equipment suppliers(rish, walker, etc) there would be few if any jobs, so people would have to move, Anstead would be no more.

You better remember where your income comes from, because right now you are trying to shut it down

They are doing the same thing where i live in Ireland. The hill of allen 10years ago the most beautiful full mountain, spoken of in ancient Irish legends. Now half gone and in the future will nearly be all gone, how do so few gain at comlpete dismay of so many, it has to stop!!!

Regulations and rules, we need. Shutting us down, and putting thousands of hard working miners on the unemployment line, we dont. I am 33 years old, and worked untill I was 30 in other states, as well as 7 years of being an over the road truck driver, because there just aren't enough good jobs in West Virginia. I am happy on the strip job I'm on, my family is supported, and I'm finally back home in West Virginia. From one extreme to the other will not solve our problems. continued...
