  • Took Drafting class with Floyd Radford at Winter Park High School 1971. Way to go Floyd. Great guitar.

  • The only thing that could top this would be to see the Highway 61 cut from this same tour

  • Only Johnny could do this! and this band was unreal!

  • He is the most under-rated, guitar masters of ALL time. He is the most versitle slide player ever. I just wish more people knew about him. He has been around since Woodstock 1969 and even before......a true legend

  • I've seen Johnny starting in 1975 and recently in Maryland. He's an American Icon for all guitar players!!!

  • Increible slide !!!!! Johnny rules !!!

  • best band of the 70 ies? the fucker cant even SING!

  • best band of the 70's hands down.

  • @thewiseking EXACTLY!

  • @doubleslottedflaps are you retarded or something? His name is John Dawson Winter the III, his dad went to Virgina milatary Academy in the early 1900's when blacks were not Allowed to attened whte schools. His family were rich plantion owners, cotton growers who lost their fortune after slavery was abolished. you're fucking dumb dude. If you are ignorant you are better off keeping your mouth shut

  • @doubleslottedflaps living in fantasy land are we? if you really knew JDW you would know that he is not mixed. just because he is an albino does that mean he is not white? if he is mixed why isnt his hair kinky? I think that your brother is not the only one in your family that is retarted you seem to be also. if you are going to try to insult somebody, you should learn to spell first. I though that you were ignorant yesterday, but now you opened your mouth and removed all doubt.

  • @doubleslottedflaps if you want to say something to my face Fuck boy we can arrange that. BTW it is not spelled kunt it is cunt, ehich describes you perfectly as you can;t understand normal thinking. Are you and your brother retarted because your mom and dad are brother and sister? Real shallow gene pool in your family. why don't you stick your head up your ass and fight for air

  • @doubleslottedflaps Johnny is older than Edgar by two years and he was the one born in mississippi, Edgar was born in Texas like I told you before if you are stupid you are better off just keeping your mouth shut. Go eat some more paint retard

  • No better slide guitarist in his prime. LOVE IT!

  • J.W king of the blues!

  • Randy Jo Hobbs bass held Johnny up for years. One of the best to play it. Guy was great. R.I.P. Randy

  • @coralseaclyde errr....not really...They all knew what the progression was. His bass played the foundation for his searing guitar...If anything he followed Johnny.

  • 'THIS VIDEO IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE DUE TO A COPY RIGHT CLAIM BY STUDIO HAMBURG"

EAT SHIT, VOMIT BLOOD, AND DIE, YOU VILE , MONEY-SUCKING PIG PHILISTINES: HAVE THE DIGNITY TO KILL YOURSELVES, and relieve and aesthetic Avenger of the duty of doing so.

Does anyone know where I can buy this great video? Any bootlegs? As usual, the darling CEOS aren't even rationally greedy enough to sell us what we want and need.

    JL

  • floyd radford made johnny better if thats possible. this is the best band he ever had

  • I agree with rizzlaxl 100%.

  • Johnny and Floyd, loved those double solos!

  • oh man this is smokin...Johnny;s vocals and slide just slay me. Was the cover of the captured live LP cover from this gig? Looks like it. Going to see Johnny in Oct in Jacksonville. He tours a LOT these days!

  • I'm not sure if this is where the cover shot came from or not...This show was recorded October 28th 1974: at Palais De Sport, Paris. Captured live was recorded in Sept of 75 at San Diego, and Oakland. He was wearing the top hat and vest pictured on the album liner at the SD show, and the same vest at Oakland.

  • As Duane said there is no one better on slide. A true American icon. JDW god bless you!!

  • I was at this show. if it was the Long Beach Arena.unreal. Johnny is the man. forever.

  • cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Floyd Radford!

  • The guitar is a Gibson Firebird

  • stop the nonsense of comparing..just sit back and enjoy! By the way, any guitarists these days like we hear here? oh, and what kind of guitar is JW jammin on?

  • who are the guys playing with him.Bass is particularly fine.

  • Randy Jo Hobbs on bass, Richard Hughes on drums, Floyd Radford on guitar. Randy and Richard both passed away unfortunately...

  • Many thanks for the video, lednareff. Johnny Winter 4-ever!!!

  • Brothers-Why are we fighting with each other? We should all be united, as one, against the common enemy!....(The Judian Peoples Front??!!) No, no , no...the Romans!!!!(Oh-yeah,..the Romans...))

Just revel in what you see here, kids. I hope no one here is buying any tickets just to heckle the artist...Thank you, Mr. Winter, for sharing your special gifts with us....huzzah, the bluesman!!! Long may you run.

  • ya the guy could play and sing at the same time not to mention he hardly ever had his eyes open LOL. Any one know if SRV and JW ever played together ??????

  • Dont think they ever met, though dont quote me. It's what ive read.

  • SRV kind of copied JW's band set up, and

JW also helped SRV out financially, and also

introduced him to the Rolling Stones, who

    connected him with David Bowie...etc.

SRV and JW were associates but not

bandmates as far as I know.

  • Life long JW fan here...

Nobody could touch Johnny in his prime,

    Nobody.

Thankfully I was able to see him back then.

God Bless him for continuing to tour.

Saw him last year, he still has great stage presence, almost magic.

  • @amgent So true brother, I always thought Hendrix copied him, or it was just a coincidence...I know they jammed together a few times, never produced anything together. But some of those recordings are here on YouTube, for those who want to search. I just hear the similarities, not trying to start a war....

  • A Master at the top of his game. Awesome.

  • hope you all get achance to see him soon cuz his health isn't so good but he's still the closest you will ever get to muddy waters , albert collins et al...

  • Those are some of the dumbest review posts I've ever read! Where did Yngwie and Joe Pass come from? Johnny Winter is a blues artist! I'll get ridiculous too..."Coltrane could smoke Johnny Winter on soprano sax!" or how about "Johnny can't take Ravi in a sitar contest!" I bet H+R Block did my taxes better than Johnny could to-DOHHH!

  • Who invented sarcasm?

    You did!!

    Great reply.

  • I don't care of there are better guitar players, I like Johnny's style of playing, this mean rock'n roll / blues to me, Rock on Johnny !!

  • johnny winter is the greatest blues man in the fn world, period.always has been always will be. period. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i know about 500 guitar players better then johnny winter- having said that- i would much rather listin to johnny then any of them 500 other guys better then him why? well silly bones, johnny's songs are better and he is a better singer

  • I can't name 10 guys better than Johnny, personally.

  • @HendrixIsGod47

I agree - and I've been listening to Johnny and good old tunes for over 43 years. I first saw JW in Kitchener Ontario 1973. I had a blast and it was even better than seeing Pink Floyd in Hamilton. Jimi Hendrix was a great but if you see and hear the extraordinarily difficult things JW does with whatever he's playing - it'll blow you away. I swear, I thought I saw smoke coming off his fingers as he burned out his opening riff that lasted about 12 minutes once. JW - the best!!!

  • Uh, memo to the riffer and mka800.....SRV was terrible. His leads were as bad as a pair of false teeth. Having said that, ever hear of a guy named Yngwie Malmsteen? And yeah, Johnny Winter was excellent. Did I mention Yngwie Malmsteen? SRV probably plays better now since he's cooked.

  • Compared to JW Yngwie Malmsteen has two left thumbs and a faulty feedback. It's like comparing Barry Manilow and Beethoven. Comparisons are odious anyway, someone famous once said. Apples and oranges, both are perfect, but different. Still i will never like YM or his pretentious attempts at 'classical and operatic themes' while Johnny stereotyped near 30 years ago as a helpless junkie is now acknowledged as a living legend whose undeniable genius is quite clear. Bravo Johnny Winter u still rule!

  • that was one helluva band!

  • Saw him at the Paramount Theatre in Bristol VA in 1994. He just flat out rocked the place. Music Man amps with 100 watts and 4 x10's just cranked up, heaven.

  • Nobody can touch Johnny on rock/blues guitar. Not SRV, not Hendrix, not anybody. Listen to his note choices and phrasing. He's a god with white hair and skin.

  • Amen no one is better at sending chills up and down my spine!! Unreal stuff.

  • Johnny plays through his soul. And that Firebird has the most awesome tone I've ever heard.

  • don't be putting SRV down!.....that's a talent no one take away!....he's done more for blues than anyone!....and I LOVE JW..but SRV is special in his own way...only a musical retard would put him down!

  • If this comment is for me, you need to learn to read the English language. I didn't put SRV down. I said nobody can touch Johnny. Are you from another country? Is English not your native language? Wait -- don't tell me you think Hendrix is the greatest ever -- cause that would explain one hell of a lot.

  • when you start talking shit about JW being better than SRV...ya I'll speak. Cannot compare them...I know English and I know guitar better than you dipshit....in fact, both these guys couldn't hold a candle to the real guitar master...Joe Pass... Winter, SRV, Hendrix, could barely play past 3 chords. Try Joe Pass improv over a hundred chord changes in one tune!..you don't know wtf your're talking about....

  • So far the only thing you've said that makes any sense is about Joe Pass, who is awesome. Don't assume what I know and don't know. Joe is great, but not cause you said so, unless you're Stone Cold, which you might very well be. (Please don't compare anybody in Lynrd Skynrd to these greats we're arguing about -- minus Hendrix, who wasn't very great.)

  • If this comment is for me, you need to learn to read the English language. I didn't put SRV down. I said nobody can touch Johnny. Are you from another country? Is English not your native language? Wait -- don't tell me you think Hendrix is the greatest ever -- cause that would explain one hell of a lot.

  • Hendrix is the best Johnny is like 3rd or 4th.

  • Hendrix is the best? At what? Johnny is 3rd or 4th? At what? So c'mon hot shot....how old are you?

  • Yeah, I don't remeber saying that honestly, that was a weird comment to make. I agree w/ that but I honestly don't have a clue of why I said that like that. I'm 14. I mean I love johnny don't get me wrong. I saw him 5 times in teh past year. But yeah sorry.

  • Johnny (fucking) Winter !!!!!

  • Saw Johnny in either 76 or 77. Muddy Waters,Bobby Blue Bland, and The James Cotton Band were the warm up act. They played for almost 2 hours. Between sets all the equipment that was changed was Johnny`s sound equipment and guitars being put on stage. Ab out 20 minutes later, Muddy Waters, Bobby Blue Bland, and The James Cotton Band came back out on stage with Johnny. They played for close to 2 hours also. This was at the Civic Theater in Akron, Ohio. All I can say is what a night.

  • I dont have the words. this is better than anything in the know universe.I was lucky to see this linup several times.

  • Johnny is CLEAN and has been for a few years. He's still kicking ass all over the place so SEE HIM!!! Your ears and soul will thank you.

  • saw this tour,and more,love him

  • Thank you, man! I LOVE this tune! Blues guitar can't get any better than this!

  • This fucking ROCKS!!!!!! Johnny is an unsung guitar God. I hope he's kicked the heroin, as I've heard he's touring, now. He cancelled on me once, due to a NOD. I never pass up a chance to see him.... he's so fucking gooooood. Love him~
