I have a question and I am new to your videos and all so please forgive me if I am wrong. What about the American's that are starving or homeless? I see you helping other countries,which is good, but what about the US? No offense to you but I think that we as American's need to take care of ourselves first and then the world. I know that may seem selfish and wrong but I think sometimes we put our own people on the back burner just so we can look good for helping another country.
People in this country have shelters and can apply for foodstamps and welfare. Other countries cannot. As someone who's seen people living in shacks beneath highways without electricity and running water in far off countries, it's important to realize that even our poor have it a lot better off than most others outside the US. We're all human - we're not more important than someone in India or China.

Thanks a lot... I have worked with organizations in the past. I spent a few months in Thailand after the tsunami helping the organizations that were there to rebuild homes. But at the moment, I'm working in India, so every once in a while, I try and do things like this.
Helping anywhere is good, considering everywhere needs help sometime or another, America has it better than some countries in Africa or places in India, Indonisia, Do you see us helping them...at least someone is doing something.

Hungry people will do desperate things. I have grown up in poverty and I have known hunger. I have not known starvation. I'm not sure how I would act if I and my children were starving and I saw food and others fighting for it. I might fight to feed my girls. I am not a violent person, nor do I condone physical fights. Yet, starvation could bring someone to a drastic dog eat dog level.
I think some of the answer is shown here in these reply's. The anti American self loathing is evident. In the video, we see a local telling the food giver to get lost. Some posters seem to feel Ryan was suposed to just hand over the "gift" and be gone. We also seem to assume they were starving to death and were desperate. They may have eaten that day and were just stealing from the "rich" American. How many had distended stomach's? Hating America will also bring people to a "dog eat dog" level.
Sorry that didn't turn out the way you would have liked. It was a nice attempt at something wonderful, but like you said, adventures don't happen the same way twice. All you can do is learn from your mistakes and I hope you will continue the great work.
We all make mistakes, and you are brave to air yours. You seem earnest. Anyone can sit back and criticize, but it takes a braver person to be willing to take these kinds of risks. I've seen your other videos, and I see growth in your approach. Kudos to you, and keep doing what you believe in your heart is right.
Since it dropped back in the comments, I'll mention again: I am very aware that this episode was a mistake. When I left with the pizza, I was expecting to go back to the same place, with the people I knew, who always saw me on my way to work and shouted "camera!". But their area had been cleared out by the police. Running up on a group of strangers, pointing a camera at their poverty without asking instead was rude and condescending.
This video is heartbreaking Ryan, and I'm pretty sure that's the point. Awareness. Discourse. All of which is happening because of your video. Unfortunately some folks have been ruined by first-year sociology courses...
One of the things we could all learn fron this is to be gratefull that we live in America. We have Christian values, even if we aren't Christian. The rest of the world is barely different from animals. He is doing good, but don't give your life for it. Others need help also.

India's economy is really bad now. I'm assuming that this is where this was shot. It is like $100 a month or something as a monthly salary over there. I work at the mall and people will drop $100 just on jewelry at my little booth! Our world is so messed up. It is just crazy how different our lives can be just based on where we are born.

Its the same in almost every 3rd world country. Extreme poverty on one side of the town, while their mansions and gated communities on the other side. Almost always it is due to the corruption of the government or military, especially in India and Pakistan.

I've been on the street. Not for a long time, but there were a couple of occasions when I got stranded overseas, with no money, and ended up sleeping on the sidewalk or in parks for a couple weeks. People did nice things for me. I was grateful.

Look at the context. Animals are meant to survive on their own, without being hand-fed by man. Humans, often times, depend on each other. If everybody went on with their lives looking out for #1, the world would be a far colder place. Despite this disaster, you need to remember that Ryan had good intentions. Yeah, this clip was poorly planned, poorly executed. That's why I called it the mission gone wrong, and had the titles at the beginning explaining how it went down. Yes, I was elbowed in the face (I said they punched the boxes of pizza, not me) but that doesn't mean it hurt me. I was more worried about the fights they were having with one another over the pizza.

The crowd was all ages. You see children mostly in the video, because that's where the camera was sitting. But no one was trying to hurt me, just get me away from the pizza.
You are a good person Ryan. When I was younger I used to go to the park near my house with about 25-30 pb&j sanwiches and feed the homeless. It is a very rewarding feeling knowing that you helped someone out. The only thing that always made me feel bad is the fact that I only made a small difference for that day. However if everyone did something kind for the less fortunate once a day then as a whole we should have it covered, right?
Don't worry; I feel the same kind of dissatisfaction when my efforts aren't changing enough. But you still made their day so much brighter.
Ryan helped that little child-laborer for only one day in the other episode, but in no way at all should it be thought of as a small effort. The fact that you're putting yourself forward to help shows your true character.

Savio got the hell out of there as soon as crap started going down. I wasn't worried about me, if that were the case I'd have just let them have the pizzas. I was worried about the fact that grown men were fighting small children to get to the pizza. There was also about 10 liters of water there that someone ganked from Savio immediately.

India's economy is really bad now. I'm assuming that this is where this was shot. It is like $100 a month or something as a monthly salary over there. I work at the mall and people will drop $100 just on jewelry at my little booth! Our world is so messed up. It is just crazy how different our lives can be just based on where we are born.

I've been on the street. Not for a long time, but there were a couple of occasions when I got stranded overseas, with no money, and ended up sleeping on the sidewalk or in parks for a couple weeks. People did nice things for me. I was grateful.

I am fortunate enough to live a priviledged life in North America so I can't begin to understand what these people are going through... neither does Ryan as is evident in his careless treatment of these people. Look at the context. Animals are meant to survive on their own, without being hand-fed by man. Humans, often times, depend on each other. If everybody went on with their lives looking out for #1, the world would be a far colder place. Despite this disaster, you need to remember that Ryan had good intentions. (Although yes there is always the danger of a mob, but you can talk sense to people ahead of time, not monkeys.)

Yeah, this clip was poorly planned, poorly executed. That's why I called it the mission gone wrong, and had the titles at the beginning explaining how it went down. Yes, I was elbowed in the face (I said they punched the boxes of pizza, not me) but that doesn't mean it hurt me. I was more worried about the fights they were having with one another over the pizza.

You are a good person Ryan. When I was younger I used to go to the park near my house with about 25-30 pb&j sanwiches and feed the homeless. It is a very rewarding feeling knowing that you helped someone out. The only thing that always made me feel bad is the fact that I only made a small difference for that day. However if everyone did something kind for the less fortunate once a day then as a whole we should have it covered, right?

Don't worry; I feel the same kind of dissatisfaction when my efforts aren't changing enough. But you still made their day so much brighter.
Ryan helped that little child-laborer for only one day in the other episode, but in no way at all should it be thought of as a small effort. The fact that you're putting yourself forward to help shows your true character.

I don't know what to think of this, it really cuts me to the core. On one hand, it's the kind of thing I can see myself doing - it certainly seems well-intentioned. However, I wonder whether if is right to film these starving people when giving them food and if that wounds their pride. Perhaps seeing a white American give a small group of indians pizza once a year is not only a drop in the ocean but also a pretentious act of sympathy from people who can afford so much more for themselves.

Savio got the hell out of there as soon as crap started going down. I wasn't worried about me, if that were the case I'd have just let them have the pizzas. I was worried about the fact that grown men were fighting small children to get to the pizza. There was also about 10 liters of water there that someone ganked from Savio immediately.
