  • quick question: in terms of resolution and quality, how does a HDTV compare to a CRT computer monitor? everyone gets excited about HDTV but haven't we already been getting HD from CRT computer monitors for years? please correct me if I'm wrong though thanks

  • crt for life

  • proper hdtv? as opposed to an unproper hdtv?

  • HDTV Crt tvs are much better than and LCD

  • @Amebixfan

    No, they're not.

  • hi... i'm browsing a tv catalogue right now, looking for a tv to buy... and i saw some LCD TV's and Full HD LCD TV's... i just want to ask if the resolution of the LCD TV (not the Full HD) is 720?

  • @KuggeR23 if it is an lcd tv its going to be 720 all the time but if it is a moniter it differs so you need to be carful with the moniter resolutions

  • 1000 dollars answer was damn right!!..why the fuck pay 1000 dollar for a 22"..my specs are.new pc with 500gb..4096ddr2-800mhz..geforce 220gt 1024mb with Hdmi..intel core duo quad q8400 2.67ghz and ps3 slim 250gb and a 42" LG FULL HD LCD..and a 20" Lcd HANNS:G which i used like 20 hours..and my other room is a pentium 4?1,6ghz 1024 ddr and geforce 5200Fx with a soundblaster audigy 2 z and a Samsung 26" hd ready lcd tv..the Lg looks best because its 1080p..and the 20" monitor is 1680x1050

  • you didn't take into account the response times btw. good video though

  • your absolutely right, generally its CRT>MONITOR(~2-8ms)>HDTV(~4-8ms)

    break it down to crt>plasma>lcd

  • @DoCWaSaBe hey does hdfury works hdmi to tv which has only 3 colors cables and they are red white yellow

    waiting your answer plz

  • a HDTV is a LCD there not diffrent

  • it basicly means tv vs monitor

  • lcd or crt good for gaming?? 17" crt vs lcd good for 9600gt to play games....?? pls reply..

  • but my ty is a HDTV and monitor as stated in the box?

  • get a life you dirty arab

  • im not the one doing all the trolling little kid

  • wow joshb2561 is a hateful person..

  • I have a hd monitor and it is SIIIIICK!

I have a 30 inch CRT flatscreen and hacked it so i get up to 720p HD on it on my xbox LOOOL! any1 wanna no how i got it pm me.

  • you cant hack a tv.

  • he maybe hacked it with a knife..and the poor crt tv was going..okay man what ever just dont kill me or send me to some old people or bums,,ill display what numbers you want!!!please i got kids!lol..hacking a Crt tv...but i think you can hack Lcd and plasmas that have ethernet input or is update available.

  • CRT's don't have a native resolution, You can go up to the highest resolution your graphics card can reach.

  • hey nice video :) hey i had a question , i m new to this thing and i was going to buy a lcd monitor with 1920 x 1080 resolution. if i connect a normal xbox 360 (not elite) then would it give the output at 1080p on the monitor and dont downscale it ? the monitor dont has hdmi input. how to connect it?

  • it will give u full hd, and i believe your monitor should have dvi or vga, i suggest connecting via DVI and i have a video on that =D

  • I'd stay away from LCD for the potential health hazards. It contains mercury. And if the phospors on the tube goes wrong, it'll emit harmful UV radiation as well, possibly UV-C, which doctors use to disinfect materials because it damages organism DNA's, including your eyes and skin. Not to mention that if UV radiation is emitted, it'll produce Ozone, too, which will oxidize with your lungs and scar it forever.

  • dude not i feel creeped out lol.. .. what abt crt monitors "?

  • Someone said that they contain lead.

For now, it seems as if LED monitors are the way to go.

The good news is that, according to CNET, Samsung has an LED monitor that's top of the line. The best picture quality you can get for now.

  • hmmm kk ^_^ ty for quick response btw

  • and LED's are thin. They're probably half an inch thin or so. Maybe a couple of inches thick.

Check it out at Cnet. Best picture, safe, and thin.

  • Safer, that is.

  • From what I've read.

  • Tell me the aspect ratio for arcade monitors and the color temperature it uses -- NOW.

  • great video doc!!!

  • If my monitor is a Samsung 2443BW (1920x1200) resolution.. Will it look good if I connect it to my Xbox 360 or will I have these annoying lines? What are the best settings for me with that monitor? Cheers!

  • nice grammar skills u got there buddy

  • lmfao you tell him Doc!

  • He doesn't need to, his a smart guy.. so he DO NOT need to put a single foot on your country.

  • hi doc!!! did u experienced the rrod?..its clear right if u cant afford high quality hd tv then run for hd monitor right doc?

  • no rrod here ;) had quite a few xboxs switched(release one>>20gb>>60gb.....)

some monitors can blow away hdtvs, it all depends, but this gen's consoles are pushing towards hdtvs, but the xbox 360 is monitor happy now ;)

  • I disagree cuz what is the diffrence between a good hdtv and a 1920x1080(1080p)monitor with 20,000:1 contrast and a hdmi port...!!??

  • I must disagree. A CRT HDTV is better than a normal LCD monitor for Xbox 360, and about on parity with an LCD HDTV. The LCD can do progressive scan at a higher resolution but the CRT color accuracy is much better.

  • hie great video! I wonder if you know the input lag time on the 42LG5000?

  • i have a emachines fat monitor and it works better then hd

  • do u think an acer x223wb would be a good monitor for gaming

  • acers are amazing for gaming because of high response times. Bad for color, but only because they use TN panels. If it is TFT active matrix then I would still buy it because thats the best kind of panel type for how cheap they sell acer monitors. Acer is also an American company and have a good reputation, and have made computers in the past.

  • Yeah I was thinkin ''22 inch LCD Computer screen/TV Main thing is that it has HDMI.I gotta dig into this thing.

    But hey keep in touch.

  • I have a 15 inch LCD TV/Monitor with DVI i bougth the Xbox VGA gable and connected to it with DVI VGA adapter and the picture is not so good then i connected it to my computer screen VGA and the Picture was 100% great.

    Xbox VGA Gable =cheap HD!

  • cheap HD dude, right on, even if on a 15inch u wont get the right resolution of HD tvs, ur gona get something quite close if its a good crt

  • Well actually I tried previously with a HDMI - DVI and I got 720p HD out of the tv then I connected my box to my LCD monitor with tha VGA cable and i got resolution that practicly was 1080p so i perfer the Computer display with VGA cable. Now im saving my money and in few months ican afford a 20 or 22 inch HD ready TV

  • i strongly suggest otherwise, 20-22 inch hd tvs are NOT worth it

    smallest i suggest is 32

otherwise take a 22" monitor there the best price currently

  • thx for the advice

  • hdtv

  • it will look ALOT better i assure u

  • i have a ps3 on a normal tv, would you recomend me to go and buy one so it can become better please reply

  • buy what?

  • Hey man, 1 question i got a LCD LG HD ready 32"

is that ok with a 360, i mean playing a game i would see big differences between this LCD and a normal tV?

  • u will notice that the monitor looks ALOT sharper

  • Is there a big visual difference, like graphically between playing a PS3 game on a HD ready TV or a standard tv?? Thanks

  • yes mate alot, i was just playing on a standard tv and u cant even read some text

  • K mate, thanks for the reply, that was quick lol. U were a big help there, i will be getting a 19" LCD HD ready TV for £150. By the way, (sorry again, i just dont know much about this) but if it says HD ready, i can just connect my PS3 and it automatically plays on HD right? I mean i dont have to set anything up on the TV right?? Thanks again

  • when u set the display settings select 720p

  • is ps3 support 1680x1050 resolution nowadays?

  • nop

  • Could you please tell me what the difference is between "hd ready" and "full hd" tvs..... Thanks

  • full hd screens have a higher resolution(1920×1080) than hd ready screens(1280x720)

i suggest hd ready for smaller screens and full hd for larger ones

  • wanna ask u..

is there a big difference or just a small difference between hdtv and lcd monitor for x360 and ps3?

  • depends on the lcd's resolution, it could be really close to HD resolutions and it wouldn't matter or it could be really low when compared to HD resolutions

  • The Sony KD-34XBR960 is the absolute best HDTV for gaming and pretty much everything else. It's aspect ratio is 16:9 and supports 480i, 720p, and 1080i. It produces incredibly accurate colors. It has no lag either (main problem with current HDTVs).

Sadly, Sony stopped making it about 4 years ago.

  • crt monitors are adjustable to widescreen.

  • No LCD can beat a top quality DiamondTron CRT for colour, resolution (2048x1536) and just general quality (moving and still image). And they last a long time too - my 1998 22" is still going strong - I know of people (workmates, relatives) who've had LCDs less than 4 years old pack up on them! I use my CRT every day.

  • next gen consoles tend to move towards hd and lcd technology though

  • Using old consoles on a new HDTV is nearly impossible.

If you use scart to connect for example PS2 to the TV, you can barely make out any text at all. The best connection available, component connection helps somewhat, but its still _horrible_.

On my old CRT TV the image quality was vastly superior in every way. Not to mention there was zero lag.

  • yep u can use CRT with next gen its quite good but the aspect ratio isnt optimal =( 16:10/16:9 is what devs are aiming at

  • what about a LCD hd ready ???

  • if i have a hd ready tv do i still need to buy a hd box?

  • hd box? wats that, no mate just use hdmi or vga

  • tiutiu fri tiu ^^ :D

  • hmm?

  • thank you very much,

i've decide to buy Samsung 2232GW

  • gr8 mate ^^

  • lol i luv the way u say we have a question from ______ :P .

yes hdtv all the way.but its kinda screwed up for me :S cuz i still use my old crt tv. :S .its ok though i can see everything.excepts the words are small on the tv.hopefully i can a new lcd tv soon :S

  • lol yes hdtv is optimal for next gen but too expensive

i use to use a 17inch crt, same issue lol

  • For a console with a locked resolution your better of with the biggest aka hd tv.

But for the PC its CRT all the way.

Resolutions on a 20 inch viewable screen of 2048x1536.

  • i disagree, an lcd is better, i sit with my face smack in the lcd, cuz its NOT as eye damaging as a crt! so my 22" looks enormous from half a meter away

  • eye strain only happens at low refresh rates.

Low refresh rates are common on low end CRT screens.

Try a good CRT screen and you will have no problem.

But of you like LCD more, good for you :).

Ill stick with my Compaq P1220 for a while longer ;)

  • last i recall CRT monitors still emit radiation

  • pff radiation smadiation.

Its just something you read somewhere, its not like you experience or get something because of it.

  • i think id rather not risk it, ill go for the safer choice, though CRT had a nice breakthrough in the past few years enabling it to reduce its radiation, there still THERE =D

  • hmm K but do tell me when you find reports of people getting ill or something like that form using a CRT screen.

  • haha nice mate =P still though, y take something that emits radiation when u can take a more environmental and economical product haha

  • true true, I will step to LCD eventually, thing is, they are still getting better and better, so I wait a while longer, to the point where there is not much more to improve.

  • i can assure u good modern lcds can crush most crts now-a-days

  • i don't believe this is true..... i have an lcd, plasma and a crt. The crt has a better overall picture quality mainly due to the zero response time and the extremely low dot pitch.

  • hmm, gaming consoles that push towards lcds and full hd tvs, the fact is they support it fully and they kinda ignore the rest or push them aside, CRT has a better image than LCD most of the time, but top notch lcds can match that quality and so on, CRTS are big and bulky and damage the eye(or at least cause you eye strain).so if ur into graphics and so on, u get a crt usually, but if ur into gamming,LCDs are the better choice especially since there getting cheaper and closer to crt image quality

  • CRT is THE gaming monitor. Not LCD, playing Quake on a CRT is a MUST

  • again, CONSOLES, not pc

there still pushing towards lcd technology

  • crt with 100hz way better then lcd 2ms

    for counter strike right?

  • perhaps, but lcd technology has alot more advantages to it
