@Hoppus217 Go & re-educate yourself & watch the Mexico city footage on the Mexico DVD Metallica released last year which is here on YT. Also the Nimes DVD. The drumming all through both those is incredible, the dbl bass assault (& it really is an assault) actually shakes the shit out the cameras on the Nimes DVD which is ace to see. Lars has never been a lousy drummer, just a bit lazy at times. If you watch both those, & still think he's lousy, all I'll say after that is, you must be dead mate.

I read somewhere if i remember correctly that someone tried to piss over lars ulrich one time but got threw out by security. Anyways, I dont hate lars ulrich I have nothing against him because I dont even know the guy but I remember being at sonisphere and how sloppy he was playing the drums it was gobsmacking, seriously it annoys me at how many drummers try to be the lars ulrich no 2 and not the no1 themselves, i see him on poster/ads in the drum store, he is really badly overrated/overcredited

It's a matter of opinion at the end of the day, there's millions that will completely disagree with you, and a lot less that will agree with you. This age old argument will go on forever, and tbh, i'm sick and tired of it. My opinion is Metallica are awesome along with Lars etc, and millions agree with me...they must be doing something right...that's all i'm going to say on the matter now.

Im not a drummer and dont know anything about it, but for me he sounds just as good as so many others and he is good enough. But you're also seeing comments everywhere of people saying "lars from denmark is the best" mostly posted by people from denmark and i think thats one of the things that makes him "highly overrated"

@lasselassestor It's all down to ones opinion really. Some people love Elvis & say he's "the king", if you ask me he did some great songs in his time, but not everybody loves his stuff. It's the same with any other band/artist there's ever been through history, & you can't please all the people all the time. I think Metallica without Lars just wouldn't sound the same at all, he has his own style & class & drives Metallica's sound. Plus he's been my drumming idol since about 1989 :-D

James is a VERY important part of the band of course he is, but without Lars there would not be a Metallica, simple as. It was Lars' stubbornness right back at the beginning which persuaded James to give Lars a go, when Lars got them a deal on their very first ever demo, it was only because of that fact that James decided to do it, so yeah Lars is VERY MUCH the main man, it's his band, always has been, and always will be. Long live the mighty Metallica.

lars acted in the early days and quite possibly to this day (even with all the staff they have) as the MANAGER of the band, and that helped them getting big, sure. but the most important thing about a band is the music, and the creative mind in metallica has always been james (of course cliff brought A LOT to the table, kirk and jason their talents... rob too). the fact is metallica would be NOTHING without james, i think they're pretty much aware of that...

ALL that takes us back to the fact that without Lars they would also be nothing too, he's a MASSIVE part of Metallica, James needed a hell of a lot of encouragement & persuasion in the early days, & it all came from Lars, he was & still is their driving force. But as a band they are four amazingly talented musicians, who rely on each other to keep them firing on all cylinders. A hell of a lot of ideas, riffs etc, came from Lars on Death Magnetic, it isn't just James who's THE creative mind

Yeah I know what you mean, I still love Metallica to death, & have done since about 1989, but they live in a completely different world now to the one they started out in back in 1983. Take for instance the "Pap" pic I saw just the other day of the mighty Hetfield on some high street somewhere, wearing unmetallic shorts, a white t shirt, & these flip flop sandal things, in the obligatory shades, AND clutching a flashy bag with the words 'ARMANI COLLEZIONI' on it. My image of him was ruined lol

Well, not too sure about that one tbh, Lars is one fourth of the planet's biggest & most successful metal band which is deffo worth the legendary tag alone. Jools is a good piano player, & I like his show etc, but does he have the same status as Lars? And is he as well known worldwide? Hmmmmmm me do not think so. Still, we all have our own ideas & opinions on things. Lars doesn't really have to "hope to be" as you say, he is already living it my friend ;) Whether ppl think he's annoying or not

Totally agree with you there, Lars has been my main influence for wanting to play the drums for yyeeaarrsssss now, (almost 20 to be exact). And you are quite right, without Lars Metallica wouldn't be around now. He was the one that got them the very first recording gig way back in the day with Johnny Z, and it was then that Hetfield finally agreed to work with Lars simply because he'd got them the gig, so we have Lars to thank for the many great albums they've done, Cheers Lars! ;) \m/
