I think it's because all the things going on your mind is: Alpha, Echo, Charlie, Charlie, Boeing, Airbus, 747, A380, Cessna, Runway, number, left, right, down, up, altitude, etc.... And there's no 'cat' word in a flight... Neither a dog.... hmm... maybe it's caused by barely speaking that kind of word or thing...
Hmm... I always wanted to be a pilot.... So I better start speaking this cat dog monkey donkey kind of pets.....
the sad thing is being a pilot requires more intelligence and the ability to multitask than just about any other perfusion. Im only 14 and am taking flying lessons, luckily i do extremely well in school so it comes easy to me.
I think this is hilarious (or is that, 'heelayreeus'?? please check my spelling).. I've been flying 43 + years, over 26,000 hrs, currently still at it - long haul wide-body and I finally get the explanation for all my 'cognitive problems'. Thank you ever so much .. by the way, I'm trying to get a window seat for my next flight, any suggestions?
omg please... airplane cabin is pressurized to an altitude of maximum 8000 ft. most of u people lives at higher altitudes all ur life except for who lives at higher level. but there are no damage to the brain due to the pressurization sistem !
i ve seen very stupid collegue but was not caused by the air unpressurised at altitude XDDD
well our brains probably do shrink from the dehydration that occurs at altitude...I think...I dont really know but what I do know is that I'm so underpaid it's criminal.
wtf is with all the people saying this is bull crap? I don't know if flying shrinks your brain or not, maybe it does for a short period of time, but thats not the point.
is there any truth about the exhaust and petrol fume s in airplane cabins. obviously there is bound to small particles just a like in cars where the air passes over the exhaust manifold. is airplane air quite dirty
@210482fmj No. The air in an airliner is a combination of recirculated air and pressured fresh air. Modern airliners have various stages of compressors on the engines. In order to pressurize the aircraft, some of the pressure is diverted into the cabin.
Despite popular belief, aircraft are not perfectly air tight. The leaks are quite small, if you were to stop pressurizing, the aircraft would reach ambient pressure after 10-20 min depending on the age and size of the aircraft.
@210482fmj Well as clean as the air outside the aircraft and the overall cabin. The air being introduced comes from before the combustion chamber so my point was more about the lack of exhaust/fuel fumes.
There is ongoing research into air filters for the ventilation system, but the upper air is significantly cleaner since you are away from all the low level pollution.
LMAO! Seriously people? I love how naive some people can be. You don't lose your brain or knowledge by becoming a pilot. If this "theory" is right then that would mean that our Astronauts in space right now are the dumbest people in the whole universe, correct? Nice joke ;)
yeah, when we were researching this spot before we shot, we found that your brain shrinks the longer you are in the air. there are reports of stewardesses losing their keys after long transatlantic flights. and, the effects (such as cognitive abilities) can last for at least 5 days, long after you've landed
@defalconer Would you mind citing the research that indicates a connection between the size of the brain and cognitive abilities and/or standardized intelligence scores? This video suggests a degree of negative cognitive functioning that is simply not supported by any research I have done on the subject. I am a pilot so I'm quite interested in this. There is definite research that suggests pilots experience higher lifetime doses of radiation than the average person. tinyurl: /6dofb2r
Cannot that "brain shrinkage" be caused by jet-lag? Why people that live at high altitudes aren't affected by this hypothetic temporal disease? What are its causes? Please reply
I think it is to do with rapid changes of pressure that shrinks your brain. People living in high attitudes adapt to their environment and the pressure may be costant, as they are living on the same level. If you are flying, the pressure will change a couple of times because the plane will gain and lose attitude, which may be the cause of brain shrinkage.
@kaaskopje1988 Why you might ask? Because when you fly pressurized aircrafts Dalton's Law is not an important rule that has to be worried about and non-pressurized planes usually cannot fly at heights which cause 'hypoxia', which is every pilots primary concern when it comes down to low O2 pressure. The effects of low O2 on the brain over the course of someone's lifetime does not matter as much nor is the effect bad enough to deteriorate pilot performance. Get your facts straight buddy.
Oops... :-) Sorry if I offended anyone. That was unintentional. I am a 19,000 hr plus airline pile-it myself with 6 type ratings and over 25 years of flying experience in many different types of aircraft. bobertgreat, you are very correct. It is a very intense school, and very expensive, and once completed the job market makes the school look like a breeze to say the least. My apologies. bricenhoyle3, you seem to have a shortage of verbs in your vocabulary. I bet you're a pilot aren't you? ;-)
And... that first comment I made concerning not being smart enough and lazy is an inside joke in the industry. If you stay in this business long enough you'll be saying the same thing and laughing at everyone else the entire time. The old saying was "i only have to be smart enough to fill out a deposit slip"... well, direct deposit took care of that! - akthumbpicker - :-)
@platinum243125 The airline business isn't what it used to be and it will never go back to that again... regardless of what any of those flight school recruiters say. I know some young folks who have just recently got into the right seat of a commuter plane making 25K a year.... with 150K in student loans. Their chances of landing that "dream job" making 200K a year is about 60/40... meaning they have about a 40% chance of getting that job. Not good odds, unless you can keep education cost down.
@platinum243125 Its not as good as before, and starting off in a commuter on the right seat can get you between 15k-30k a year. As you progress into captain of a commuter, you can earn from 60-70k a year. Working for a major airline as a co-pilot can get you 80k and as a captain anywhere from 100k - 150k. For international flight, the rate per hour can increase, as it did to mine when I became certified to fly internationally.
@akthumbpicker no they aer not they go through so much schooling and tests u need to shut up and there school is not the cheapest more like one of the most expensive
I took this totally differently when I first saw it.. only because I worked in air traffic control and sometimes you really do wonder if pilots' brains shrink...
@lagraf05 lol, 15 dme, straight in ils with crazy step down fixes near mountains and multiple traffic. thats like what i had to do in North Vegas (KVGT)
actually its kinda true. to become a pilot ain't rocket science. All you need is alot of memory work and basically some talent to fly. Anyone can fly, its just that the opportunity to become a pilot is very expensive or rare. Just imagine flying as driving a car going from point A to point B and talking on the phone. Flying is fun though :D
man i so like want to be a pilot big tym bu these guys here who call themselves pilots are surely tanishing their own images thereby destroyin the entire meaning of the word pilot coz here most of wat am reading is some dudes thinkin they are doing the most important job in the world, its a cool job but hey guys soldiers sacrifice their lives better thn u do every second paramedics save lives, so do doctors point is every job has a purpose and all jobs are just as important
@sheetbug Being a good pilot is directly related to having money? So let me see if I've got this right. Rich pilot = Good pilot. Poor pilot= Bad pilot. Please tell the airlines to pay those pilots more cause poor airline pilots sure sound dangerous to me.
@flynmid there are plenty of good/safe pilots out there without flying jobs working in supermarkets. Most of them would tell you "if only I had the money".
I think the only way frequent flying can "shrink your brain" is because there is so much fear mongering about airports and airplanes. When you're in an environment of fear your brain goes into a more mundane state of mind IE survival mode and doesn't think about things like self actualization.
The actual experience of flying often is one of mind expansion, change of perspective, adventure, pushing boundaries... the list is endless. All things that please the intellectual.
Well i find this to be very funny......I am a pilot and when myself and about 12 other pilots watched this I almost fell out of my chair laughing because we all knew a couple pilots who we could see doing this!!!
But yes, that being said... and how some others have said to be a pilot you must be mature, wise and knowledgeable...and I f I may add to not let your ego get as big as the cockpit you fly in.
I give my respect to other pilots, the study can be very intense, as I am currently doing lessons to get my PPL, but I also hate it when SOME pilots (the few selected ones that don't know shit really) think they know everything/ think they are always right, a good pilot is a pilot who never says he knows absolutely everything, but one who is continuously learning something new and doesn't find the need to show off his status of being a pilot.
arrogant pilots crack me up. I don't think any of you are better than a bus driver just higher paid. This isn't the sixties. People don't look up to you anymore and that seems to bug you pilots. Your out of touch with reality.
@cooltall1 lol bitter much! every time my career comes up in conversation, people are ALWAYS in awe, being a pilot comes with prestige. and sure we shuttle people around like bus drivers, since....well.....it IS after all "AIR TRANSPORT"
@cooltall1 I would like to see a bus driver land a 700,000lb "bus" in a 200ft overcast with a 25kt crosswind, and heavy turbulence. That's why pilots put in thousands of hours of training, and sometimes only slightly higher pay than a bus driver. Ever seen the starting salary for a pilot. It's a lot lower than you think.

It's a funny video. If you're a pilot and can't laugh at yourself then you probably don't deserve the job.

do you think pilots are moron? well effin you
patrickjambo17 1 year ago
This is hilarious. These pilots are really dumb. It goes to show that anyone can become a good pilot aslong as you have the money.

@sheetbug Being a good pilot is directly related to having money? So let me see if I've got this right. Rich pilot = Good pilot. Poor pilot= Bad pilot. Please tell the airlines to pay those pilots more cause poor airline pilots sure sound dangerous to me.
crj7guy 1 year ago
@sheetbug you can be a pilot as long as you have the money, as far as being "good", that has nothing to do with money.
flynmid 1 year ago
@flynmid there are plenty of good/safe pilots out there without flying jobs working in supermarkets. Most of them would tell you "if only I had the money".
sheetbug 1 year ago
@sheetbug not really sure what a lack of money has to do with having a job, but ok

All things that please the intellectual.

lol, again a dutch advertisement

I'm not a frequent flyer but I guess my brain has shrunk anyway coz I didn't get it.

Well i find this to be very funny......I am a pilot and when myself and about 12 other pilots watched this I almost fell out of my chair laughing because we all knew a couple pilots who we could see doing this!!!

***CONTINUED***
But yes, that being said... and how some others have said to be a pilot you must be mature, wise and knowledgeable...and I f I may add to not let your ego get as big as the cockpit you fly in.
MetalJaXtA666 1 year ago
I give my respect to other pilots, the study can be very intense, as I am currently doing lessons to get my PPL, but I also hate it when SOME pilots (the few selected ones that don't know shit really) think they know everything/ think they are always right, a good pilot is a pilot who never says he knows absolutely everything, but one who is continuously learning something new and doesn't find the need to show off his status of being a pilot.

@MetalJaXtA666 exactly, once a pilot thinks they "know everything" flying becomes unsafe
sam94vids 1 year ago
arrogant pilots crack me up. I don't think any of you are better than a bus driver just higher paid. This isn't the sixties. People don't look up to you anymore and that seems to bug you pilots. Your out of touch with reality.
cooltall1 1 year ago
@cooltall1 lol bitter much! every time my career comes up in conversation, people are ALWAYS in awe, being a pilot comes with prestige. and sure we shuttle people around like bus drivers, since....well.....it IS after all "AIR TRANSPORT"
CanadaFlyGuy 1 year ago
@cooltall1 I would like to see a bus driver land a 700,000lb "bus" in a 200ft overcast with a 25kt crosswind, and heavy turbulence. That's why pilots put in thousands of hours of training, and sometimes only slightly higher pay than a bus driver. Ever seen the starting salary for a pilot. It's a lot lower than you think.

This could happen when there is a lack of Oxygen case (hypoxia).
