The Ganges River is a diseased and soon to be dead river, as the ruthless exploitation of India's nature continues. Dead bodies, animal carcasses, toxins, deadly bacteria, industrial pollution....all contributed to killing this river slowly. A river that was once a pristine beautiful sacred body of water. I hope, one day people will understand how limitless human greed and ego has transformed our planet into a toxic timebomb.

b. babys, since they have done no sins

c. sadhus, cause they are clean through yoga,holy men

Thank you for explaining this. I wondered why this was so, after seeing photos of bodies floating in the Ganges. This explains a lot, as I believed all Hindus were cremated. Is there any kind of ritual that precedes this placing of the body in the river? In other words, a ceremony of a any kind?

XJR666 ... I took a morning rowboat ride of the Ganges when I was in Varanasi and heard the same thing. Except I heard #5 was smallpox, but you're probably right with leprosy since smallpox no longer exist in the wild.

We actually had two dead babies bump up against our boat and saw a number of corpses caught in the anchor lines of docked boats. All the while people were bathing and doing pujas in the same water. It was interesting.
