Both are great, Condensors are more sensitive, you have to be careful with the gain levels and the distance from mic while recording and you will need some source of 48v phantom power to be able to record successfully, Dynamic mics are because they don't need separate source of power and you don't have to be as "gentle" with them and they can also be used for live performance, if you have a small budget and low patience and don't like being "tedious" with level settings go with the sm58 condens
I think the quality of a sennheiser 835 is better then a shure sm58. although the shure sm58 will probably last longer. but the sound quality from the sennheiser is more pure then the shure sm58 hands down.
My Audio Technica AT 2020 (condenser) sounds much better than my dynamics Shure SM 58 and Sennheiser e609 in every situation.
I was shocked at how much better it sounded with vocals against the Shure and how much better for electric guitar than the Sennheiser.More subtly, more dynamics, more accuracy and clarity...the electric guitar sounded way more natural with the condenser. The only downsides being less ability to handle loud noises and the need for phantom power.
How did you get the dynamic mic to pick the acoustic up that well. I've got a dynamic microphone and it doesn't pick up acoustic guitar very well at all. Maybe it's the microphone but I'm not sure...
hahaha honestly I couldn't quite tell the difference when you played your guitar, though like the Dynamic mic. had more of a clean traditional sound, and like the condenser mic. had an electrical like sound caused by the vibration of the strings.
Question, what would be the best dynamic mic for vocals? I don't have an EQ or a Mixer or anything like that and kind of a tighter budget. I am working with my mini studio at home on my desktop PC. Thanks.
@nfarnham2008 .. The best dynamic vocal mic is deffinitly a Shure Sm58. there not to to expensice, like 100 bucks. But there built to last, and they use only the best parts to make them. And they sound amazing. thats my opinion
@MetalScreamer510 Okay thanks, so would a dynamic be better, or a condenser mic? I've been told that condenser mics need EQ and mixers. I also do more aggresive vocals, like slipknot.
@nfarnham2008 ... I play guitar in a metal band called, Beyond shattered Dreams. Ive also played in another heavy band called, Along This Shore.. Both very heavy, with very agressive vocals, as well as instroments.. And with both of them, ive recorded all songs, vocals as well as instroments, so i know what u mean about that.. Truth is, both dynamic and condensor work with screaming style vocals. But there both very different. My screamer uses a dynamic live, but a condenssor in the studio. And
weve been very happy with the results.. The differences between the to mics in my opinion, is the dynamic is pretty much the standard, it sounds good, and it is very easy to work with. The tone is little dark, and not as crisp.. The condenssor although, is more i quess you could say "high". It gives better sound quality, and a better tone. Both are great mics. But Both are very different.. If you wont, ill put up a vid of my screamer using a condenssor and a dynamic on seperate track?
@MetalScreamer510 That would be awesome, as you can see on my profile I did a cover of a TBDM a while back with a shitty webcam mic. I have been looking and I am probably getting the M-Audio Producer USB mic, as you can get it for about 100 bucks and it comes with Pro tools. But still, would love to hear the two mics.
@MetalScreamer510 Hey, i saw in an earlier comment that you have a screamer in your band. How would you go about recording a scream? And how do you EQ it? I've been working on it but every screamer is different so i wanna get your opinion too.
@MetalScreamer510 From all my research, including comparisons on Youtube, the general concensus is that the AKG D5 is far superior to the Shure SM58, as well as being cheaper.
yes off course Condenser mic is better .. notice whn u speak on it ur voice sounds more professional n manly. n i can feel ur voice expression clearly.
@oasis1242 .. Thankss.. Speaking of sm57. I used an sm57 in this video, as the dynamic mic. Its my favorite mic! Not for singing of course. But for instruments its amazing! The 58 is great as well. I recorded a guitar with it the other day, and it sounds fantastic.
A good way to test a mic. Record it mono. Same levels for both recording, and try to put one track on right and the other left like dynamic right and condencer on left so you can hear the diference. In addition about condencer Mic and dynamic Mic, non are better than the other. They work equally the same the only diference is the way the capture the air frequences or sound waves and tranfer it to electronic pulse that's it!
dynamic is like you're talking inside a plastic bag..condensor is quite a bit much clearer and better...thanks for the video.

condenser sounds much better!

@BruceStuntz71 listen to it through headphones and you'll hear a world of difference

@BruceStuntz71 yeah but the condenser picks up more of the fine details. Gives a much brighter and fuller tone. Especially for vocals.
Dynamic mics are better for vocals during a live performance but for recording, condenser all the way as long as you can keep the room quiet.

The condenser sounded a lot better IMO!!

@BruceStuntz71 hey man yea thats what they're mainly used for, any shure microphone is great for vocals :D

I sing, I sing mostly high notes and I want to sound really good... What microphone do you think would be best for that?
Makirsi1 10 months ago
@Makirsi1 shure SM58 which is a dynamic, or a blue- baby bottle which is a condenser but very good for vocals.
