The tv show doesn't lack different races, all are Asian: Chinese, Korean, Tibetan, Japanese and Vietnamese in the show it explain that each land are either those races. Why not boycott it because it just simply sucked? I do agree in what you're saying, though, but for other reasons. To me, some of the characters seemed out of place compared to their surroundings. If you are from a Eskimo looking village, why not get Eskimo or native American people to portray the roles? Its all about realism with the scenery for me.
I am 1/2 Irish and 1/2 Native American. I am posting this to give support to The Last Airbender due to my love of the series, and my love for (most) M. Night movies.

Race is not important. Why? Because race is nothing but how people adapted to a certain location. For example, Africa is a very hot, and not a very humid place. It also gets alot of sun exposure. So over thousands of years, your skin gets darker, your hair won't grow too much because you don't want hair on your neck because it's so hot, and because of the lack of humidity, your hair will become dry and brittle. So like I said, race is nothing but ow people adapted to certain locations.

the show is amazing and the story line teaches people to look beyond what people would normally think to be true in my opinion the whole cast could be one race and the story could still turn out to be an amazing qork of art

This might be the stupidest boycott that I have ever heard of. The film makers are simply filming the movie in a way that will most accurately portray the original series. Apparently you didn't watch that, because EVERY CHARACTER IS EITHER ASIAN, INUIT, OR CAUCASIAN! Why should they cast anyone of different ethnicity? That would define diversity for the sake of diversity (aka reverse discrimination) my friend, and it would only detract from the accuracy of the film with regard to the tv series.

The character's in the animated series, Avatar - The Last Airbender are all one of the four following races. Water Tribe, Earth Kingdom, Fire Nation or Air Nomads. All are fictional ethnic groups that live within in the fictional world that was created by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko. Asian people do not exist in this world, neither do African's, Australian's nor American's. Therefore no one particular race qualifies as being a better choice to play the parts of any character.
shamalan has given the four nation( WHOLE WORLD!) ethnicities, it wouldnt make sense that just b/c its oriental based, the whole world all be asians! Its like making a film all over the world, w/ everyone being japanese, korean, and chinese!. 2/3 characters are white b/c they are from the water nation , portrayed as white. Keep in mind most of the avatar story line took place in earth kngdom , , and firenation. so that makes the caucasian label not even appear at all!Thats not racistbending!

OFFICAL RACES OF NATIONS the northern water tribe will consist primarily of Caucasians (if you were familiar with the series you'd know that Katara and Sokka have lineage here) the southern will consist of primarily Inuit
the earth kindow will consist of Primarily Asians ( and in future movies African too)
the fire nation will consist primarily of Indian and Mediterranian people
and finally the air nomads will be a mixture of all races.
You have no idea what races they're going to include in the movie. For example, M. Night just stated recently that the entire Earth and Fire nation will be made up of Asians. That's more than the majority of the entire Avatar fictional planet! Water and air nations have the smallest populations, and they're the only characters that will be casted as white. So please stop boycotting something that doesn't make sense.

Now that I've watched this video I want to go see the movie twice, just to give them my money that you're not going to spend. Maybe I'll see it a third time because of those other people who complained, too. Of course the movie is Asian influenced, that's why the characters on the big screen are mimicking the cartoon. Nowhere in the cartoon does it say 'these characters are Asian' it doesn't even say 'this is Earth'. It's like "A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away" Get it?

OK, all of you make a pretty strong point, but there is a video I think you need to see. It is a video called The Last Airbender Movie Update #8 - Score Composition. The video's maker has created a whole series of updates just for this movie. It is #8 in particular that I believe you need to watch (at least the first half of it) It sort of explains that there IS diversity of nationalities in this movie and it is not entirely a white cast.
We know about the diversity. There is a blogger called Angry Black Woman who complained that they will cast black people in this film. to have a "chocolate coating to make the bitter white pill go down easier".

Hey check it out, Hollywood is making a Fullmetal Alchemist movie with all Asian characters and a Code Geass movie and Lelouch is going to be played by an Asian, what's your opinion about it.
You do not get what Im saying. Fullmetal Alchemist is an anime that takes place in an alternate universe that resembles to Germany during WWII where the soldiers are actually Nazis and the tan people are the European Jews. Basically its an anime about white people. Now people for this protest said that Ed and Al Elrich being Asian is perfect. This is the same situtaion as this protest. What makes these people any different from people against this protest?
You never know, for the movie remake of Charlie's Angels, Lucy Liu played one of the main roles that a white person should play. Street Fighter had Jamie Chung as the lead and that movie is declared by Rotten Tomatoes as one of the worst movies in America out of 100 while Dragonball Evolution isn't even on the charts. They're pretty much the same thing, but Dragonball had a white lead, Street Fighter was way better and I knew it, but not the critics.
Other words to say. Ninja Assassin comes out in like two weeks. Asians all leads. Really who is really going to actually watch it. Maye it will be # 1 for like a few days to a week, but nothing else good actually comes out in the same week. Same story as Max Payne. Horrible movie, but people watched it because nothing was on. Ponyo, great anime movie, great reviews, horrible gross. The highest it got was #9, but why?
I might go on a limb, but Hollywood does this to appeal to the critics and the audience. Bad reviews equals bad box office sellings, but some bad reviews get good box office selling and good reviews get bad box office selling. To this movie, the millions of people neutral on this, if there were no announcements about the cast, then who would they expect, maybe Asian, but who knows. Name back to a movie that had an Asian lead that had a good review and a box office hit in the 21st century.
The Lucy Liu character in Charlie's Angels was going to be played by a Black woman. Lucy Liu was going to portray a dragonlady, but was picked instead when the actress dropped out.
StreetFighter and Dragonball were both rubbish due to the input from the Hollywood Studios.
You should have posted something about Mortal Kombat which was infinitely superior to both.
Three week stay at number one and the soundtrack went platinum.

Why not boycott it because it just simply sucked? I do agree in what you're saying, though, but for other reasons. To me, some of the characters seemed out of place compared to their surroundings. If you are from a Eskimo looking village, why not get Eskimo or native American people to portray the roles? Its all about realism with the scenery for me.

Race is not important. Why? Because race is nothing but how people adapted to a certain location. For example, Africa is a very hot, and not a very humid place. It also gets alot of sun exposure. So over thousands of years, your skin gets darker, your hair won't grow too much because you don't want hair on your neck because it's so hot, and because of the lack of humidity, your hair will become dry and brittle. So like I said, race is nothing but ow people adapted to certain locations.

Night Shyamalan spent a lot of time trying to pick the best actors for the parts, and two of them happened to be white. This might be the stupidest boycott that I have ever heard of. The film makers are simply filming the movie in a way that will most accurately portray the original series. The character's in the animated series, Avatar - The Last Airbender are all one of the four following races. Water Tribe, Earth Kingdom, Fire Nation or Air Nomads. All are fictional ethnic groups that live within in the fictional world that was created by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko. Asian people do not exist in this world, neither do African's, Australian's nor American's. Therefore no one particular race qualifies as being a better choice to play the parts of any character.

You have no idea what races they're going to include in the movie. For example, M. Night just stated recently that the entire Earth and Fire nation will be made up of Asians. That's more than the majority of the entire Avatar fictional planet! Water and air nations have the smallest populations, and they're the only characters that will be casted as white. So please stop boycotting something that doesn't make sense.

I agree. I don't get why "white people" are playing roles that were clearly .... NOT of white people in the show. I mean anybody with two eyes can see that. The creators didn't specify what their races where but maybe even THEN the people could have been mixed or something? I think however they should have used this opportunity to bring out some talent from a demographic that is rarely represent on the big screen.

Now that I've watched this video I want to go see the movie twice, just to give them my money that you're not going to spend. Maybe I'll see it a third time because of those other people who complained, too. Of course the movie is Asian influenced, that's why the characters on the big screen are mimicking the cartoon. Nowhere in the cartoon does it say 'these characters are Asian' it doesn't even say 'this is Earth'. It's like "A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away" Get it?

OK, all of you make a pretty strong point, but there is a video I think you need to see. It is a video called The Last Airbender Movie Update #8 - Score Composition. The video's maker has created a whole series of updates just for this movie. It is #8 in particular that I believe you need to watch (at least the first half of it) It sort of explains that there IS diversity of nationalities in this movie and it is not entirely a white cast.

what we all need to realize is that no, its not racist casting, its just a casting choice that dimartino and konietzko both had a say in, if they didn't see something in these actors they wouldn't have cast them. i believe these videos are just another "affirmative action" kinda thing. i believe that actors should be cast based on talent (wich they are) and not based on race. plus, the movie is different from the show, same storyline, but a whole different animal. allow it to be different

Fullmetal Alchemist is an anime that takes place in an alternate universe that resembles to Germany during WWII where the soldiers are actually Nazis and the tan people are the European Jews. You never know, for the movie remake of Charlie's Angels, Lucy Liu played one of the main roles that a white person should play. Street Fighter had Jamie Chung as the lead and that movie is declared by Rotten Tomatoes as one of the worst movies in America out of 100 while Dragonball Evolution isn't even on the charts. They're pretty much the same thing, but Dragonball had a white lead, Street Fighter was way better and I knew it, but not the critics.

Other words to say. Ninja Assassin comes out in like two weeks. Asians all leads. Really who is really going to actually watch it. Maye it will be # 1 for like a few days to a week, but nothing else good actually comes out in the same week. Same story as Max Payne. Horrible movie, but people watched it because nothing was on. Ponyo, great anime movie, great reviews, horrible gross. The highest it got was #9, but why?

I might go on a limb, but Hollywood does this to appeal to the critics and the audience. Bad reviews equals bad box office sellings, but some bad reviews get good box office selling and good reviews get bad box office selling. To this movie, the millions of people neutral on this, if there were no announcements about the cast, then who would they expect, maybe Asian, but who knows. Name back to a movie that had an Asian lead that had a good review and a box office hit in the 21st century.
