  • Killer tune with some killer pedal steel !

  • have to point out that the word 'Tanzania' was not coined until the mid-20th century, and one of its component words (Tanganiyka) wasnt used until 1918. Rimbaud would have no knowledge of this word.

  • simoleans = loot or cash. It's about the state of affairs of the world in that day.

Seems like nothing has changed. We just stopped caring.

  • Good Song,

    Good Song. :-)

Hello to all of you, guys. We are still alive after all those years!

  • I absolutely love this song, but I'm having trouble figuring out what it's about. Does anyone know what it's about, or is it just totally random? Either way, excellent song.

  • gggg remix!!!!

  • enjoy it everday folks life here is quick....make each moment count ...nuttin but mad love for you all.

  • these are the songs that gave me goosebunps

  • im 17 qnd only listen the classics . for example 60's to 90's

  • im 17 and i think this song is just peaceful meaningful rock i listen to it over and over and just relax thinking how i feel the way the song says

  • Used to listen to these guys when I was in Beirut, Lebanon on my 1st & 2nd tours (1982 & 83). They got me through a lot of pain and misery. Woke up in the Landstuhl hospital in Germany on October 25th 1983. Two days after a terrorist blew up our compound and killed 279 Marines and Navy Corpsman. First tune I heard was Red Rider's White Hot.

  • wow ...what a story.........love for the soldiers..thank you for your service....

  • My pleasure "lifereigns". I'll do it again if called upon. These guys gave meaning to tragedy and triumph. I listen to them everyday.

  • @kenchik2

i got goosebumps reading your post and i would have been red hot too,... i have true admiration for you my friend. I wish i was a hero!

  • Hey Joerenfrew,

I'm no hero. The heros are the men who died that day so long ago. I'm just really thankful that I survived because I have a lot left to do in this lifetime. One of those is listening to great music and making friends on YouTube. Thank you for your support. Ken.

  • Im 21 and ive been listing to red rider for a few years now...i thought i was the only one lol

  • classic song that brings back the memories.............hhmmmmmmmmmm............happier times.

  • awesome song

  • my favourite part, for some reason, is when he says "I need you to come see me, that's no lie" ♥

  • i love this song and tom cochrane and all the classics ! and I'm only 17. :)

  • Does he mean to say Somalia? he pronounces it like "Semoli", weird.

  • I've always wondered about that. It seems like he must mean Somalia, but it doesn't fit the meter of the song to say "on the Somalian shore." Sem-o-lion just doesn't make any sense...

  • I've also always wondered about that. I assumed it was because that (bizarre) pronunciation fits the song better, but I wonder ... because the song is apparently about a French poet's experiences in Africa ... in French, Somalia is known as "Somalie", with the emphasis on the first syllable - "SOM-a-lee" or "SO-ma-lee". Interesting, anyway!

  • @mojofilter02 I guess I accidentally posted my reply to this thread on the main board ...

  • @mojofilter02 Tom Cochrane talks about writing this song on his website (live from Massey Hall audio). It is Somalia he is talking about. He says the song is about a poet, Arthur Ranvauex (spelling of his last name might be off). Anyway, he said that this guy was an influence on Jim Morrison and Neil Young. He gave up peotry and went to Africa to run illegal guns. I always wondered about the meaning of the song and now we know.

  • @lowbridgehit It's Arthur Rimbaud. But that's right.

  • @mojofilter02 on lyric websites it says the lyrics are Somalia so I guess that's what he intended, just didn't sound right.

  • @mojofilter02 Cos Im White hot!!..my last name is White?? you fool...lol

  • @mojofilter02

I suppose, to fit the meter of the song, he pronounces it Somal-eye-a and Somal-eye-an shore ? Not sure why, other than to make it 'fit'

  • @metemi

    No.

  • Love this song, I wonder if other 18 year olds such as myself love listening to the classics

  • im 18 and love it all

  • does 21 count lol? i love classic rock.

  • @LeafsFan120 Trust me.. Youre not alone!

  • This would have made such a cool music video :(

  • Tom Cochrane is the shiznit.

  • just saw him at the bmc he put on some awesome show for a 60 year old

  • An obscure classic!

  • Excellent! Thanks for posting.

  • There's a kind of vulnerability to Cochran's singing. Can't recall anything quite like it.

  • Thanks, mojofilter 02!

  • ugh i love it!!! such a feel good song...if it doesn't put a smile on your face your just not normal! lol :D

  • The best single from Red rider....Thanks!

  • 19Aleman, check out Tom Cochrane's Mad Mad World. It is an awesome CD with a lot of strong tracks. Probably the centrepiece is Life Is A Highway, which has been covered by a number of acts, making a lot of money for Tom.

  • Too Catchy ^.^ love it

  • AWSOME Ihavent heard this song for years!

  • on this particular album had a second lead singer named peter boyton who left the band after this album

  • cochrane is the best!

  • tom cochrane is a legend

  • awsome video! 5/5 (if there were rating)

  • SICK

  • I was about 11 at Forest Valley day camp Toronto when this was a hit. Always thought it sounded cool.

  • This is one of my favorite songs, but I am trying to get a version on YT of him singing this with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra. Anyone know how to download it here? As good as this version is, that one would take your breath away! I have the CD and the whole thing is just amazing, let's get it on here so everyone can hear it!!

  • Someone (you, perhaps?) would need to make a video from the track on that CD and send it in. If you have Windows Movie Maker, it's very easy to make a presentation. I'd never done it before I started coming here in April, and I'm certainly no video artist, but it's possible to make a decent video short with little experience.

  • Thanks Mojo....I am possibly the least computor savvy person on the planet (still working on "copy and paste", for real). I will check it out though, I have friends who actually know how this thing works. :)The CD he made with the Symphony was absolutely brilliant, sends chills up my spine when I listen to it. Another good one: The Secret is to KNow When to Stop.

Anyway, thanks, I will see what I can do. :)

  • Did Tom Cochrane do any other music besides Red Rider?

  • Red Rider was the group he was with. He then went on by himself and made some awesome records; Mad Mad World was one, and my favorite was The Symphony Sessions, where he put all of his rock songs together with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra. You should hear what THEY did with "White Hot' it would take your breath away. :)

  • Tom was a solo musician before Red Rider. He was on the Daffodil label (Crowbar, Fludd etc.), recording under just his last name. I have a couple of his singles from that period that I still may post in the future.

  • Hey,

If you have those singles; post them.

I'm a huge fan of his acoustic stuff. Just resonates with me.

    Post those mojofiler02

  • @19Aleman Haven't you heard "Life is a Highway?"

  • good LORD. i haven't heard this since 1980.

    wow. great band. great album.

    "I need rain!"

  • all time best song about gun-running EVER!!!

  • Always will be a great song! Good to hear it again.....

  • this is cool, i heard this on the radio last night

  • Hard to believe that this was 28 years ago. We cruised all summer 1980 listening to this.

  • Great song with awesome lyrics.
