  • She, whoever she is, is charming to the eyeballs, what a babe.

  • Garry McDonald is a man before his time. Gonzo comedy.

  • Okay, after watching this about ten times in a row, my favorite part must come @ 2:58 when Sally (who is finally hip to what's really going on here) can't control her mirth anymore and she goes "Norman, I love you." Then reaches over to give him a kiss. So funny, so cute, so sweet. A big triple yay!

  • Her reactions are priceless! I love her laugh. What a fun person she must be to hang around with.

  • God, she's so natural and real. It looks like they're having a lot of fun together.

  • the best line is when sally suggests norman use an electric razor and he replies "I do"

  • anyone have the harry reems or the michael cole interviews-yes i have seen this also about 40-50 times--thx for posting

  • They're so adorable together, they should have got married!

  • 1:56 makes my life, her face is priceless.

  • I have watched this several times over the years, and it is still about the funniest comedy interview in the World! Ever.

  • Totally love it!!

  • Thank you Norman!

  • I just love the way Sally reacts to him...they play off each other beautifully...everytime I see this it just leaves me laughing and smiling...

  • without doubt his funniest interview.

  • Wow he did a number on her, and even more amazing what a TOTAL babe, Sally Struthers was.

  • 1 of the best aussy comedians!!! & Norman Gunston waz a great character.

'Mother & Son' was an awsum show 2.

    ONYA GARRY!!!

  • Check out my video in the video response. YES, that's REALLY Sally Struthers. Enjoy and yes, she's awesome.

  • I didn't know who she was until "All in the Family" (American version of Til Death Us Do Part) was mentioned, I thought she was some 70s equivalent of Pamela Anderson, a Playboy girl or porn actress.

  • Norman Gunston is very cute and adorable in this interview!

  • One of Norman's best interviews. Most interviewees just didn't get it but Sally Struthers was absolutely delightful! :)

  • My Australian friend's recently showed me these things on DVD (I'm American). Really delightful stuff, and this Struthers bit was my favorite. It's interesting to see how sweet and tender she is.

  • Sally looks sexy!

  • I could watch this over and over again. It's one of the funniest things I have ever seen - especially the part where he tells her she looks so young, "more like the daughter" from All in the Family. Absolute comedy gold!

  • Remember this like it was yesterday. Sally won a lot of hearts for being so cool about the interview. Frank Zappa was a hoot too. Keith Moon just abused him and emptied a bottle of vodka over his head which kinda showed his basic character.

  • 'I'm sorry, I got lipstick on your toilet paper'. (Happens to me all the time).

  • oh my god. Sally Struthers used to be hot. what's wrong with this picture?

  • Oh,and a Logie is the Australian Emmy. It's named after John Logie Baird, who invented the tv.

  • @blackwhimsy Invented the t.v. LMAO!

  • @jethrodassam

Not quite sure why you're laughing your arse off. John Logie Baird was a Scottish engineer and inventor of the world's first practical, publicly demonstrated television system, and also the world's first fully electronic colour television tube. That's the 'non-comedy' educational bit.

  • @gupsnot Oh, thanks for sharing. I didn't know that.

  • @jethrodassam

    no probs!

  • @gupsnot Do you watch the "Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson? He's so funny. He's from Scotland, recently became an American citizen.

  • Garry MacDonald aka Norman Gunston,is still around. He was a NIDA-trained actor(NIDA being the Australian equivilent of RADA-Mel Gibson and every prominent Australian actor trained there) who created Norman 30 years before Borat. He would do a bit on his variety show where he interviewed American actors who never quite got the joke.He also had a Top Ten record with a funny medley of Abba songs. If you want to see what Gary looks like as normal,he was also in the classic Aus sitcom Mother and Son.

  • She's probably the smartest yank who ever lived.

  • @mo0nbuggy I'm American, and I didn't get it.

  • shes probably the smartes yank in the world

  • The 3 people who "disliked" this video obviously don't know the full power of Norman Gunston's unintended sense of humour.

  • I'm glad there was one amerikan who realised what was going on, Sally Struthers is genius.

  • @chitchant At least there's one.

  • i love this guy!

  • Initially thinking Norman to be the oddball, Sally absolutely loved it as the interview wore on, realising that in turning the tables it was actually him using her as a foil for his genius.

  • Comment removed

  • hahahahahaha this is my favorite video of her evr!!!! i luv her so much shes so cool and awesome! luv ya sally!

  • Sally Struthers was hot back then. Loved the frizzed out hair.

  • Sally's reactions make a crazy interview even more hilarious. Norman's timing is again spot on. This is such classic television

  • I've had this as a favourite for a long time. Just watched again and know why.

    Just brilliant.

  • Norman (Garry McDonald) was amazing. He'd stay in character for so long, people just didn't get it for a long while. They thought Gunston was a real dude.

  • all in the family was the best tv series of all time!

    archie, edit, GLORIA!!!!!

  • My favourite Gunston piece was when he went to the beach behind San Clemente,Nixon's beach house in California and proclaimed...."This is the beach were the former President of the United States....hangs ten!"

  • Sally was a genius. She brought Gloria to life. What a pity she was so typecast in All in The Family that she couldn't break away from it.

  • There must be something really wrong with this interviewer, I feel sorry for him. Poor Sally for having to sit through this!

  • @TJWhitewolf It's a joke interview. Norman Gunston was a made up character played by Gary Norman, who is really one of the most talented comic actors Australia's ever produced. He has never really got the recognition he deserved. Plus it was 30 years before Borat.

  • @rotcafarg Or Garry McDonald as his mother christened him, Yes, it was way before Sacha Baron Cohen or any other imitator

  • @gazeff Yeah, McDonald... I don't know where I got Gary Norman from! Must have thought Gary-Norman-Gunston. I suppose I lost too much blood shaving this morning.

  • @rotcafarg No worries. At least you didn't confuse him with Harvey Norman, or Hardly Norman as some people call that businessman

  • @TJWhitewolf are you for real? he was acting!!!

  • @wesstkilda I know he was acting. My point was, acting or not, it was just too corny...even Sally thought so judging from the looks on her face.

  • The Greatest and Funniest interview... EVER!!!!!!

  • this guy looks a lot like Richard Jenkins

  • Best ever. Such a cunny f+nt

  • This is the 2nd best interview after NG and Frank Zappa. I love it when the person getting interviewed doesnt quite get it but they go along for the ride anyway.

  • Wow she was pissing herself he usually gets the cold shoulder from his interviewees.

  • I can't really make out what he says right after "... I really would have made a much better baby Jesus than Kevin Desmond"? Can anyone help me out?

  • Moforofosofa, he said Kevin Desmond used to break wind in the manger.

  • and the critics panned him

  • "He used to break wind in the manger"

  • @Moforofosofo

he used to break wind in a manger

  • I think he says..." He used to break wind in the manger all of the time.....the critics panned him".

  • Amazingly struthers thinks a Logie is a disease, Logie invented the TV FFS!!!

  • Norman Gunston was a character created by Gary McDonald, a great Auastralian actor and talent. He used to confuse people(especially stupid american actors) that he was a serious journalist

  • is that for real?

  • she looks liek shes about to cry the whole time

  • omg norman gunston, you gotta love him lol, this is one of the best

  • what's up with this dude's hair????

  • He was a satirist from the 70's.

  • Drunk

  • I love Gunston, he's so hilarious. Great actor. :)

  • lol ive laughed like she does at 1:57 with my hand on my forehead.

  • So many times I've seen this on TV and the clowns don't actually show the funniest part. The last bit where she tells him he should use an electric razor and he says "I do" That was the end of her - she just lost it completely. It's one of the moments I always think of when I think of Gunston. The Ali interview was great too, where Ali had him by the shirt. He asked Ali if he could pick him up a duty free transistor radio in Manilla.

  • I can't find the whole Ali one anywhere, only the 45 second version.

    Must be out there somewhere.

This was really funny though, as was his Cheech and Chong one.

  • Yes, I don't think I had seen the Ali one since way back when. They did play it on a TV special a few months ago but I didn't manage to tape it. I'll keep looking and let you know if I find it.

  • Nice one, I'll do the same so fingers crossed.

    Cheers!

  • a comendy classic

  • 2:14: 'She's on drugs I think.'

  • Easily, one of the best improv interviews of all time, could be studied for generations to come.

    "Help!"

    Incredible.

  • thumbs up for the name. *sigh* what a funny interview... :D

  • norman what a bloody legend

  • After 34 years, it still makes me cry! My own experience of the Gunston Show in 1975 was when I came out of hospital with my jaw wired after a sports accident. Gunston was on ABC TV on a Sunday night and after a few minutes I was laughing so hard I nearly ripped the wires out of my mouth. There are so many classics missing here, like when Norman told Linda McCartney that she didn't look Japanese! Can anyone out there remember Norman's tour in 1980? I saw him 3 times in one week. Genius!!!!

  • I love this interview ... and sally is so great the way she reacts

  • the funniest thing ever on abc tv borat could learn from this man. Sally looked so sexy and helpless here gunston in full control

  • "Help"

  • legend

  • the big logie :)

    you're the best, G McD!

  • "why don't you use an electric razor?"

    "i do"

    classic,

  • loll,,Onya Norman!!.....

  • I just bloody wet meself! Cheered me right up that did!

  • What a treasure! So much to love. Sally's kindness, disbelief and laughter. One of our greatest actors in full flight! A masterpiece of timing and great fun. Well done Gary! (We're like that!)

  • Why is there only a few Norman Gunston video on Youtube? We need more people uploadinh his videos.

  • very funny...I love her laugh

  • Do ya wanna band aid for that or something?

    lol 5 *****

  • I love this. She just loses it.

  • Garry McDonald's a genius.

  • Absolute gold! I have seen this so often and I crack up every time. Onya Norman.

  • I love the way she can't look him in the eye. Her eyes are locked on his 'shaving cuts'.

  • Sally wuz sooo cute in this!

  • I have seen this hundreds of times & will never tire of it.......GARRY Mcdonald-comic genius .

  • 2:37.....sally sees his face and implodes.

  • That has to be one of TV comedy's greatest ever interviews. Gary MacDonald is a comic genius and Sally Struthers has one of the most infectious laughs you will ever hear.

This is a clip that truly deserves the "LOL" tag!

  • Champagne comedy .. and Sally was a great sport, wouldnt be the same without that lovely laugh of hers

  • Sally sure was pretty.

  • this is one of the best norman interviews--the michael cole one is funny too ,if someone has it!!

  • I defy anyone to find a better interview.

  • priceless

  • My stomach hurts i,m laughing so much

  • man i remember this and i wasnt even born yet

  • Im crying LOL

  • Haha, check out his little Quantas bag!

  • LOL! That was excellent!

  • How the hell does he keep a straight face.

"You should use an electric razor"

    "I do"

  • Vintage Norman...The most memerable interview for me Thanks Gary

  • Norman Gunston for Prime Minister!

  • I have also been waiting for this to be posted. Thanks Vilignal. I used to love watching the Gunston Show. This is one of the best comedy interviews ever. Garry McDonald is a comedic genius.

  • What a hoot.. I've been looking for this clip for yonks.. thanks for uploading!

  • Gunston sets em up so the audience can laugh at the guest, it's a setup that has been copied by Ali G/Borat, Dame Edna has been doing it for 50 years, it's comedy.
