  • Oh wow this video was uploaded on Eddie's Birthday cool.Did anyone notice that???

  • I'm happy to see these kinds of videos of Eddie. The movie made him seem so week and passive. It's refreshing to know Eddie did speak up for himself. The movie made him appear to be obsessed with Paul. It didn't reflect the fact that Eddie got married, had kids and went on with his life.

  • R.I.P Corn </3

  • I beginning to question things Kendricks stated about Berry Gordy. Maybe since his stupidity of signing AWAY HIS ROYALTIES led o this hatred. He wasn't force. He made a choice. History was known that Gordy was an odd businessman, at Motown. Realize the poor man speaking about the rich man. Once you lose your gold then you blame your foolishiness on others. History wise the Gordys was, from Georgia and mved to Destroy.

  • WTF He never Knew Berry Gordy Priceless SMMFH

  • Kendricks has rights to gripe. But Gordy was a big assistance. Why did he get the money for the suits? What connections did he have to get to the next step? Anger shouldn't have made him sign his royalties away just to leave Motown.

  • Monaray" Jermaine did not stay with the company because he was married to Berry's daughter. He stayed with Motown because it was a Black owned company, Berry had an long track record of success with black artists whereas he was sceptical of a large White company like Columbia, which at that point hadn't yet achieved the success it would later be known for with Black artists and because of his gratitude for what Berry had done for the group. Read the book "You are not alone" by Jermaine.

  • Jamie? Jamie? I think not. Eddie was too good-looking ok!! Jamie looks like his Wanda character on In living color. Eddie is too cute and fine!! Now Ladies do you all agree? Smiles!!!

  • love you eddie RIP

  • Totally in love with him. RIP

  • Are there any more interviews of just Eddie when he was younger? If there are any out there, even if they are not YouTube, please let me know! thanks!

  • just like davids name was davis? lool also melvins name was david melvin english ... melv used his mothers last name for his stage name

  • Who couldn't particularly care for Eddie? By all accounts that I have read, Eddie had a gentle soul and was always a great and accommodating guy to his fans. RIP Eddie.

  • eddie we miss and love you so much!!!! you are a gift from god.....!!! i wish you were still here wih us !!!

  • Great video, Great info, thanks so much for sharing!!!!

  • I agree with the things Mr. Kendrick did as a youth in the south. If I grew up in that day, I would have done the same things.

  • I don't blame you eddie - I'm not an ass kisser either.

  • he a fine black man!!!

  • he fine he my husband rip eddie

  • This just leaves you hanging. Sure wish there was more of it...Some Parts 2 thru whatever (Like Jody Watley's Post-Unsung thing...). This just ends with you wanting to hear more! But it was nice to see what we did. Thanks for posting it.

  • What an intelligent man. I enjoyed this interview. I've never seen him on film like this...only pictures and clips of him performing with or without the Temps. This is great. (He told me love had felt the need to leave me...)

  • I Love rate eddie kendrik.

  • couldnot eat at restaurant they sang in..what a bunch of shit

  • Sad. I was one of the health care workers that was helping to take care of him in Atlanta before he passed. RIP.

  • i love his voice when he talks

  • greatest upload ever, he was my favorite temp

  • I agree with you MONARAY~~~~~~~~~~it appears that the (4) Temptations & (me) are still being compromised today (2011).........why are there NO DVD's available of their LIVE CONCERT footage.......................I'm reading a book about diane ross...............it is revealed that the italian mafia (las vegas thugs) got their hooks into Gordy in 1964 & his gambling addiction :'(............DAMN................

  • Could you get the entire interview? I was left in suspense (LOL). But seriously, if you could retrieve the entire interview/story, that would be great.

  • HA IM A SAGITTARIUS AND I AM FROM ALABAMA AND HE IS RIGHT, YOU ARE RAISED NOT TO TALK BACK

ITS AMAZING THAT I LIVE IN BIRMINGHAM AND EDDIE WAS FROM ENSLEY, ALABAMA NOT EVEN A

    MILE AWAY WOW HISTORY

  • i really love this because it SHOWZ how the artistz were REALLY treatd at motown.. Berry dont deserve credit...THEY DO.. Im glad that Eddie along with many otherz got to speak on how thingz really happnd.. so many people praised Berry too much for these artistz success.. thanx for postn this..

  • This is so cool, I never heard Eddie Kendricks talk before, only sing.

  • Lost him far too young. Very good point he made about wanting to do a solo record while still part of a group ... "not allowed" in those days. It's amazing what the legends in all genres had to contend with in terms of music-industry attitudes. Now no-talent jokes have everyone at their feet for no good reason. Guys like Eddie paved the way, built the spaceship, mapped the galaxy; now you just loop some loops, auto-tune "voices" and voila: more crap to listen to at Applebee's.

  • Eddie was the truth!!!!

  • @trw1501 Props to Eddie and all the many blacks who paved the way for blacks to have the freedoms today they enjoy and take for granted. Blacks today don't know the feeling of being told where to go, where to eat or sit or where to go to school or go to the back of the bus. They have freedoms that they take for granted. 50 years ago we didn't have certain freedoms, so don't take any freedom for granted and always appreciate the people that open the doors.

  • It's funny how BG made his artists go through training to learn how to perform and present themselves, but he didn't teach them about the business, cause I guess he knew then he couldn't use them, if they were taught. Everything was done for them at Motown, it almost disabled them, because when they went out on their own many couldn't survive, and he knew that.

  • eddie

  • mann , jamie foxx is gonna look like him in a few yrs .

  • @shypie Sorry, Jamie Foxx will never look like Eddie. The mold was broken after Eddie was born.

  • It's a real shame that Eddie couldn't change with the times and accept the psychedelic tracks they were doing because in my opinion, it was some of their best stuff. It was music with depth and substance that had a socially relevant message. They couldn't do teenybopper love ballads forever. Marvin Gaye, Curtis Mayfield, etc all realized this and evolved accordingly. Too bad, Eddie couldn't. Regardless, he still stayed relevant somehow and attained hits.

  • @MetalheadJay78

Yes, the psychedelic material is/was great but I'm assuming Eddie (along with the other guys) wanted a little more balance. Motown and Norman just went into overkill/oversaturation with the psychedelic songs. By the early 70s, the Temps were sounding like Sly and the Family Stone and not the Temptations. When Just My..........hit it was a huge smash partly because it was the Temptations doing what they do best. Just my opinion, I could be wrong

  • @BruhMan09, true. But many people(especially guys) prefer "The Beatles" after "Rubber Soul" as opposed to their earlier teenybopper stuff. There was more substance and variety there. That's how I feel about "The Tempts". Like many artists of this time, they took a look around at what was going on in the World and said we need to address this in our music. That's why their psychedelic material still resonates today just as much as the earlier material.

  • @MetalheadJay78

I agree. I love their psychedelic material from the late 60s until the mid 70s. It was the only way the Temps could achieve a long career in the business and mature as artists.

  • My favorite Temptation single with Eddie singing lead was Return Your Love To Me.

He tore it up on that cut.

  • hitsville baby

  • and eddie was the one who picked out the temptations clothes and what they wore on the stage. paul did the choreography until cholly atkins took over. i think eddie is kind of underrated as far as his influence in the group goes

  • There was a guy in my class who spoke JUST like Eddie... O_O

  • RIP Eddie. Let's remember that Eddie was not well when he did this interview. Next....I wonder how great Eddie thought The Temps might have been without the Motown hit machinery backing them - without Smokey writing and producing for them - without the other songwriters writing for them. Hate to say it, but Eddie sounds a little full of himself. Still a very unique artist with an unmistakeable voice. That will never change.

  • @mhertz25 I WONDER HOW GREAT MOTOWN WOULD BEEN WITHOUT THA ARTIST

  • @mhertz25 actually i dont think he was full of himself. do you know the funk brothers was only payed $60 for the sessions they played? honestly research barry was a great business man but he was ruthless with the money. he did not treat everyone the same. he only promoted certain people above others namely diana ross. seriously that is what i belive he was refering to

  • RIP Richard Pegue too, he died a few years back.

  • 1st time see an interview for Eddie. He is the type of ppl that u dig in 3 mins! RIP

  • Oh my, he was quite handsome.

  • Look @ Eddie with his fine a**

  • @jejimypr He he was so FINE!

  • @jejimypr oh i agree fine as wine

  • imo the GREATEST falsetto I've ever heard.

  • Eddie Kendricks was a great singer & performer, but also a great man. Thanks for posting this

  • Eddie aged very well, very handsome guy! He's spot on about Gordy..after giving them their big breaks, he fed off their naivety.Smokey had 2 claw&fight 2 get his $/royalties&writing credits. Most of Motown premiere acts left on bad terms & as they got older found themselves too poor to pay their bills cuz they were screwed out of their royalties. When word got out, stars like MJ,Springsteen,Rod Stewart,Al Green, ect. helped them financially, even paying for some of their funerals.

  • Eddie Kendrick(s) left the temptations because he didn't like or feel comfortable with the Psychedelic tracks they were making and Norman Whitfield's leadership so he left.

  • Grt Post!! I love a Falsetto singer and Eddie Kendricks with the Temps and as a Solo act was my favorite. Love my Chi-Town's Dusty radio WVON AM 1390 with Richard Pegue. Even a grown man can show RESPECT, MS. ROSA PARKS he corrected himself. Todays youth can take a lesson or two from Eddie Kendricks.....R.I.P.

  • Have you ever heard a more straight-up person speak?

Ain't ever gonna' be another like Eddie the "K".

  • love Mr Kendricks one of the best to ever do it i'am just saying.

  • Ah, the video ended to soon. Is there a part 2?

  • @isandrich look at my page and in the favorites there's a full version but it only adds a minute or so of unnecessary.

  • I MISS my friends! It is not my fault a bunch of idiots doped up and scared the crap out of a little kid to get him to say something! I just wanted to play music!

  • In the movie they made it seem like Eddie Left b/c Paul wasn't in the group anymore.....guess that wasn't true

  • @TheQscorpioqueen Man, the movie never really gave us his personality. I was shocked to hear all the things he said here, from start to finish, his basic attitude, even the way he talks.

I'm embarrassed to say I saw him when I was a ( dumb ) young teenager and my musical soul hadn't yet grown to where it is.....plus I was a dumb teenager !....didn't try to say "what's up" or nothin'. Please forgive me, those of you who would wish for a chance like that...I wish for it now ( wah !).

  • @andrewfrancis74 In my opinion the movie made him a caring and loyal friend. I didn't sense any negativity on his behalf.

  • Wow Eddie Kindricks Aunt was my 2nd grade teacher in Birmingham AL stories she would tell about him and Paul

  • @derek10056 very interesting - would you like to share?

  • @derek10056 Yes, share.

  • when the lord said let there be song he gave us the Temps and there was song !

  • Eddie Kendricks would've been my sugar daddy today if he had not passed. sexy man and sexy music.

  • Great interview..

What is the song that the DJ is playing at 02.51 on Dusty radio 1390?

  • Back then it didn't matter how famous you where especially in the south, black folks where considered second rate, this was a reality of the time, unfortunate that it happened, but to hear him speak is amazing because he doesn't sound bitter, a lot of his fans where white of course, maybe that has something to do with it. I loved the part where he said they threw rocks at the cops, I hope he hit one of them square in the head.

  • Eddies given name was KENDRICK WITHOUT THE S WAS ADDED

  • What's up with the reporter not pronouncing the "s" at the end of Kendricks?

  • Richard (th dj) is so right about Eddie's background singing. I listen to 'I Wish It Would Rain , ' just to hear Eddie's background vocals. Not to take anything away from David, but w/o Eddie's background vocals I wouldn't be as iinstrested. His contribution to the tempts was so significant. I JUST LOVE THE MAN !

  • II Trill!

  • Fars as I'm concern, Mr. Kendricks was the Temps!

No diss to Mr. Ruffin', David was a one man army himself.

Bottomline, Eddie and David was the voices.

I know I'm younger, so, therefore many of you might say this kid dont know crap. But, I do know music and talent. Otis, didn't have niether. Otis just came along for the ride!

  • I would love to hear the rest of the interview as well.

  • You don't happen to have the rest of this interview, do you? It'd be interesting to hear what he had to say on other subjects.

  • For all of you taking up for Berry Gordy you need to do some research on how this brotha royally screwed people over. I know Gordy is responsible for putting a lot of artists on the map, and Gordy felt that since he was making these people famous and signing their checks, he could do whatever the "F" he wanted to them. I don't think Eddie sounds ungrateful, he just sounds like a man who wasn't gonna sit around and take the bull crap...

  • @Monaray1 I second that emotion Berry Gordy was a modern day slave owner I know that'd harsh to say but it's true paying them kats with cars and gifts and no bread keeping them lock in little contracts then push them out on the streets.

  • @Monaray1 he just did what florence ballard did... he said what he thought

    berry couldn't stand this

and who didn't "work" in his view was simply fired...

  • @Individuell83 This is true. Divided Soul (Marvin Gaye) revealed this. Marvin stated that someone tried to get the artist together to complain, and that artist was immediately dropped from the label. Marvin also stated that Berry Gordy had a way of pitting artists against one another- to protect his money.

  • @Monaray1 Tell it like it is. You can commend BG for making Motown, but don't condone his mistreatment of many artists. As a boss he was suppose to make everyone successful. He showed favortisms. He messed over Marv Johnson, Flo Ballard, and others. He and his family was about making money. They were hustlers. I agree with Eddie, if you gotta brown-nose, sleep around, or kiss butt to make it, then forget it. Motown try to portray this image as a family, but it really was a clique.

  • @Monaray1 Many of the black artists at Motown trusted in BG, thought he wouldn't screw them like some white companies would, but he ended up doing more wrong to his artists then a white company, sometimes your own people will do you in. What he did to The Vadellas, Marvelettes, Spinners, Marv Johnson, Brenda Holloway, Mary Wells, The Contours, The Funk Brothers, Four Tops wasn't cool. The music biz is cold, but I thought Motown was family YEAH It was only family to the ones who was in the clique

  • @Monaray1 I agree...I mean if Berry was all of that, why did Gladys Knght and Teena Marie sue him...Stevie Wonder had a suit against him before he was able to get his own label under Motown. Heck, even Berry's beloved Michael & his brothers left him (Jermaine only stayed because he was married to Berry's daughter). I'm not at all underminding Berry's tenacious and brilliant work to get black artists known world-wide. That is certainly to be commended, but he also had some ill ish with him too

  • @Monaray1 He had to, its business. Its not screwing em over. He did them a favor by introducing them to the world. Gave them money, cars, food, health care, worldwide exposure for their talents..keep in mind there were thousands of doowop groups on every corner glad to take their place..

  • He was the best Temptation

  • Go head Eddie..Tell the Truth..=)

  • this goes to show u....that temptations movie...was not true in its entirety

  • Eddie was very good looking and I think they picked the perfect actor to play him in the movie!!

  • @Monaray1 I agree. Dude looked just like him!

  • eddie was a fine looking man, jamie foxx could play him in a life story

  • @sydders03 uhh..no?

  • @sydders03 i agree also

  • I am a white guy and in 67 I saw him in San Francisco at the Cow Palace.. This man has class and manners and respect..

  • @joncoope1081 lol lol lol lol-it's that southern drawl trying to take over that "interview etiquette talk"

  • @TheKirby25 I know right. I know all about that southern drawl, its a hard thing to hide. He kept stuttering cause people from down south talk really fast

  • @Monaray1 People from the south talk really fast? Well thats a first! I was born and raised here in the south and we speak slower than most northerners. In fact we are distrustful of fast talking northerners!

  • @kklustra I guess its just a matter of opinion! My family is from Birmingham Alabama and in that neck of the woods the speech can get kind of fast but obviously not everyone talks fast, just some. Eddie talked just like the people in Birmingham talk!

  • Wow, he was so handsome. Damn he looked better than he did when he was younger. That's not suppose to happen. lol

  • @LeeAnn20008 lol i know crazy how some people just mellow out with age

  • Wow, he was so handsome.

  • He looks like a sagitarious

Mostly good good people. Thats not because I'm one.

  • eddie kendricks put diana ross in da game she wuz hes girl b4 motown wen dey started out

  • The Temptations were some bad dudes. They molded Motown as a group. Their music is timeless..

  • He seems to be a very down to earth brother !

  • Eddie was cool...But to HATE on Barry was NOT a good look honey!

  • @QUEENKIM4EVER

    Berry

  • fuck berry gordy he wuz hatin on eddie cus he fucked diana ross he wish he could look and sing like eddie

  • @MrMaru211b : forreal?? how u know he fucked diana ross?? and barry wanted to?

  • He was so handsome!!!

  • He's such a handsome guy and I love the way he speaks. He had one of the most beautiful voices I ever heard. He told it like it was and still is in the music industry. He has a right to speak his mind especially if talent like his was being taken advantage of by record companies all for the sake of the root of all evil....MONEY. I love you Eddie, and all of the Temptations. Entertainment will never be the same without you. Rest well my dear while I keep your legacy alive. Temptations....FOREVER.

  • This mad died on my birthday....October 5, 1992.....Do You Know How Bad This SUCKS!!!!!!!!!

  • @SuJuGurl89 We're born on the same day. Happy belated B-Day. Hate the death of Eddie on our birthday as well. Even my great uncle died on this day too. Damn!!!

  • Forgive me if this was previously responded to; there are so many comments to sift through; is the complete (or second part of this) interview posted on youtube or elsewhere? If not, will you post it? It would be greatly appreciated!

  • EDDIE RIP! DAWG WE ALL MISS YOU! YOU WERE ONE OF THE GREATEST.

  • Eddie met Barry Gordy 3 times - that is surprising.

  • @totaly52 Very surprising. It means, to me, that the film was telling some tales. There is no way that I believe that scene where Eddie and Paul were in the car and Eddie tries to get Paul to accept the project because "Berry put a lot of money" behind it. I believe Eddie and what he is saying here. This interview is so valuable.

  • berry did fuck over alot of people and eddie just spoke the truth. he was from the south. people called him boy and stupid shit so of course he was going to be tuff.

  • Comment removed

  • eddie didnt take no mess. r.i.p.

  • He was so handsome. I really miss him. My mother use to play his music and when he was with The Temptations

  • Wow! This is a good interview. His southern accent comes out when he talks about Alabama. :) I had a different perception of him after watching the movie. He's more masculine in real life.

  • Oops, correction on my last comment. I meant to say that I liked Dennis too (although he wasn't apart of the original 5) but the order I put them in, according to MY person favorites, was correct.

  • I do LOVE the other Temptations too and I like them in the following order AFTER Eddie: Paul, David Ruffin, Dennis, then Melvin (although he wasn't one of the original 5). Oh, and if you're wondering why I left Otis out, well, I can't remember him singing on ONE song and to be honest, I have no idea what the man sounds like. Just sayin.

  • He is my most FAVORITE Temptation ever! I LOVE him! His voice was just too sweet and I am sure he is/was a favorite of MANY females, today, back in the day too! CONT

  • incredible

  • He reminds me of someone I worked with. Like he looks like him and they have that same 'speak up' mentality.

  • I Met Eddie While I Was in College ... He Was REAL!!!

    $C$

  • he had such a good voice, but creeps me out in a video of just my imagination

  • Why do many of our Heroes leave us so soon?! It can be in music, civil rights, or any other category. Ppl have to remember that Eddie's music {& many other Soul singers'} is responsible for the birth of many. They're right. Eddie brought class to falsetto. I love & admire this Brother so much & I just hope that he knows it in spirit! He was & forever will be my favorite Temptation! "Girl you need a change of mind", "Date w/ the rain". & "Intimate friends" are my top 3 EK tunes.

  • Such an amazing man. He was indeed a great loss.

  • he's damn right, berry gordy wasn't right.

  • OMG!!! Good ol' Dustie Radio 1390!!!!! I miss the 90's soooooo much!!!!!! So many childhood memories listening to this station....Eddie Kendricks-what a talent!!!!!

  • Thank you Eddie for sharing your wonderful gift with the world. He seemed like such a nice guy.

  • Love the interview. Eddie, you were a amazing mate.

  • Nothing, and I mean there is NOTHING like the voice of Eddie Kendricks!

  • @GOLDENBELL1991 I agree completely. Just My Imagination....most beautiful song ever written.

    Eddie's voice...magnificent.

  • excellent point tuzwol and i thank you!!!

  • I just love him Eddie James Kendricks he can sing so well he is the best singer than and now I wish I could get to know him when he was alive I love you Eddie James Kendricks if some one in this room like my message cool you know your music.

  • Eddie was very handsome, even as an older man. I like his straightforwardness about what he went through at Motown. Very good interview!

  • @Donisha1982 , I agree.

  • @Donisha1982 I feel bad on what they had to go through the Black/ White BS in the cities that they had to play in Eddie RIP you were taken away from the world to young.

  • Yes we can to about my sweet my baby eddie what you like to talk about him kaydiamond55

  • TO HELL ABOUT HOW GREAT HE WAS IN SINGING ...LISTEN TO HOW AMERICA TREATED BLACKS AND HIS STORYS ABOUT ON THE ROAD AND DISCREMINATION..THATS THE REAL STORY...ASSHOLES!!!

  • @308079 ,no ,not to hell with his singing, both stories are significant. Yes there was racism, but that shouldnt overshadow his greatness as a singer.

  • Good interview and for me the Temptations was an inspiration throughout their time I sulute you all

  • EDDIE WAS ONE OF THE GREAT SINGER OF ALL TIME

  • This was a great interview,,just shouldn't cut it off!!!

  • fine, fine, fine. Rest in Peace.

  • @icecreamladydream On Eddie's "He's A Friend" album you will see 2 black men doing the soul brother shake, from what I read, Barry didn't want this on the album cover because he felt like it was to radical, but because of Eddie's presistents - it remained that way. Like Eddie said, he wasn't a yes man.

  • @totaly52 Really. That is so interesting. I'm telling you the artist at Motown are some of the most interesting people in the world. I wish I was there. Eddie was great. I wish he was still around.

  • Comment removed

  • @totaly52 I think the two men shaking hands on Eddie's "He's A Friend" album cover are Eddie and a representation of Jesus. The "He" in "He's A Friend" refers to God or Jesus.

  • he looks like charlie murphy a little

  • Rest In Paradise Eddie Kendricks <333

  • This interview shows that he was much more than a phenomenal singer. He stood up for what he believed in.

  • I love Eddie and no matter what anyone says he will always be my friend. Eddie's tone and his expression to people who didn't actually know his character really wouldn't like Eddie but those who did know him would dig the way he spoke and would agree to what he said about the group and Berry Gordy. EK you were my only hope at one time as far as starting a acting career. I'm so sorry things didn't work out for me. Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord RIP. EK Baltimore, MD.

  • He very bitter!!! I've heard Eddie speak b/4 and he come across like that. Berry Gordy did get all the money, while they were out of the road still traveling trying to

make a living right up until some of them died. MANY of them died broke like Eddie.

  • LOL...he is the best singer ever, but the brotha can't talk...lol....RIP Mr. Kendricks

  • what a wonderful interview. And to hear Eddie tell his side of being a Tempation.

    You are truly missed Eddie.

  • Thanks for posting this one,for me it gives a clear insight to Eddie and his thoughts. I personally, have so much more respect for this guy.Thank you very much!
