you don't have to do this at all, especially now that we don't even use purplera1n,

i used purplera1n when i first got my 3gs, then they came out with 3.0.1 and then used redsnow.

u dont need to put the iphone in recovery---plug it into your comp and open up itunes and keep clicking the serial number on your comp--it should show to UCID.

to simplify it, its like a birth certificate... when you update it through itune or w/ever it goes to apple servers and checks to see if its a signed certificate... if its not itll consider the iphone to have a custom firmware and bad shit if gonna happen :) .. this is just making a copy of your cetificate so when apple asks for a signed one you can show this copy
