maybe you can wash your hair as you would when your hair is loose, but braid/twist then band and let dry like ppl do for sister/brother locks. this keeps them from getting puffy and bunchy or rather shrinking drastically and keeps them looking pretty fresh too. but there is definitely nothing wrong in your method. best wishes:)

This mini twists tut is the best i've seen....i've always hesitated on these because for me, I do not like the "scalpy" look but these don't look like that at all. Also, good quality camera, angle, lighting, etc...really easy to see the detail. Great job thanks for taking all that time out and subbing
