I was wondering if you guys have seats with seat belts in your Squad. Seems like a pretty dangerous response while standing up, especially with the road conditions the way they were.
No this is an older squad. There are no seatbelts in the walk in box. The older design of the box, will not allow us to put seatbelts in this unit. Have you ever watched any of videos from FDNY and their Rescue Units?
irons... I just watched several and other than seeing them drive off "Code", I didn't see anything in particular. Is there something you wanted me to see?
Yeah. Its usually against fire department SOP's to not wear your seatbelt while responding. Theres been alot of firefighters injured, and a couple (that I know of) killed in MVI's cause they weren't wearing there seatbelts. But like irons22 said, im sure they tried to install seatbelts, but were unable to, so theres not much they can do about it. Thought they should of been sitting down in there seats.
That was a firefighter from the 1st due engine company. Prior to the squad arriving on the scene, a tow truck had a cable hooked to a large tree and a change of direction back to the vehicle to secure the vehicle from moving. It was also cribbed after we arrived on the squad.
This was a real incident. The person inside the vehicle was an EMT/Firefighter doing patient care. He was able to get into the vehicle through a back window. The patient was also under the blanket. The time was 17 minutes from start to finish on the extrication. That was on scene until the patient was removed from the vehicle.
nice video!

This was a drill right? It was not a real incident, was it?
flaflatas 3 years ago
No. This was a real accident.

In the beginning I thought it was real, but then I started wondering why is the entraped person wearing a uniform?
How much time did the incident last?
I mean the extrication, after arriving there?
