There was only ever one jazz/rock revival, and it was in the seventies. Heck though, I didn't know ska/swing existed in the late nineties...if I did my life would have been different.
Dang, the singer is a bear of a dude! lol I never seen a live video of these guys play. I've been listening to their debut album for more than a decade, and I'm only 27! I got into the band by first listening to Chicago, and of course Blood, Sweat & Tears.... I was hoping music like this would make a come back because of the 'swing' revival in the late 90's/early 00's... no such luck,... I also find that the older I get, the more back in time my musical tastes go...
Bill Chase is very likely the best trumpet player I have ever heard...saw Maynard in mid-seventies at the Prom Center in St.Paul...he couldn't hold a candle to Mr. Chase...just sayin'
@cmg1956 too bad you feel you have to cut down one of two (both) great trumpet players. But since you started it -- though admittedly, something more than your mere surface-level comparison: Maynard kicked Chase's ass on ultra high notes. Just say'n.
@PoetOfTheSpheres Just because you don't agree doesn't make me wrong...'surface-level'??? Really??? I am a musician and I heard what I heard...I was not cutting Maynard down, just speaking my opinion...sorry you can't accept that without trying to belittle me...oh wait you just 'cut down' Chase...geez, you can't have it both ways...

All these comments of people who were in this video is so interesting considering the band played the Johnny Carson show and was flying up to Minnesota to perform in my home town, but the concert was canceled after the plane crash.
What a joke for a band director to discourage students from playing this song, because he thinks they wouldn't be good enough to play it. Yet, says he played it all the time. What hypocrite. Not a band director - a band "dictator"
Took my girlfriend to see "CHASE" back in the early 70's at the Aquarius Theater in L.A...Don't know if this was a common practice but ofter Angel South ripped off a great solo during one of the groups songs...Somebody yelled..."GIVE THEM YOUR AX!"...Angel unhooked his strap and flung his guitar into the audience!!! My girlfriend remembers it because it flew right over her head! I truly miss this style of music...Chicago...Blood, Sweat and Tears...Time Time Time Time...Man!, I'm getting old...
I just discovered this song this week and really love it. This was just the sort of thing I was hoping to find on it..
Am a smidge frustrated though as it keeps halting to buffer..am pretty sure it's a vid issue and not my connection as other videos are not giving me trouble. Would loooove to see a better quality one..though I imagine it is *not* an easy find. Nevertheless...sure would be nice. Terrific, terrific song!!
No one should really play this except Chase! I am a college band director and cannot stand hearing slaughtered by so many youngins. Alas as a trumpet player I played it all through high school and college. Just nothing like this sheer energy!!! I have it on my phone as an MP3 I swear everytime I play the album "Chase" or" Enea"
Wonderful clip as with the other one for Open Up Wide. I remember in my high school jazz band we used to play this song Get It On in the early 2000s and to this day forever changed my life being a fan of Chase, Maynard among other people I inspired for my love of music.
I played 2nd horn on this song in high school. Loved the song so much I named my son Chase, he's an awesome drummer - jazz ( trap set) and marching (quads).
@nrex06: Both Jerry & Allen Ware did do some gigs with Chase after the original band broke up. When Bill died, teh other 3 trumpets were Jay Sollenburger, Joe Morrisey, & Jim Oatts. (I apologise in advance for any mispellings!)
@DennisKeithExp I know because I took lessons from Allen Ware in 1974 and Bill was already gone... This HAS to be 1971 or so. Glad to meet you Dennis. I ran into Allen in Vegas (I grew up there) and he helped me develop some pretty good chops.
@DennisKeithExp Did you mean 19 years old, because you have a beard... lol just saying and would you happen to have the bass tabbed out or written somewhere that I get or something... looked everywhere for it :P
This was done in '71. I know cuz I'm the bass player in this video. (I must have been around 9 years old then. LOL). There were no original members except Bill by '74.
@DennisKeithExp I was a trumpet player in 1970-1971 around Washington DC. When Chase came out, I think I out my horn away. Magnificent. He & Maynard Ferguson. Amazing stuff. It's still relevant!
Absolutely lovin' the memory of this song, and that great jazz rock sound. I remember this one BIG TIME blaring from the stereo at home in the early 70s. Still sounds wonderful. Cheers for this, and thank you!
hey CHASE fans check in on Facebook and search CHASE. There you will find a fan page that will keep you informed of touring dates and when the band will come to your town.
@spacepatrolman sorry it took me so long to get back as i just noticed this. yes in answer to your ? with some explanation. there is a reunion group CHASE REVISITED that has done a few dates w/ 1 coming up this week in MN. there is also a strong possibility that CHASE will re-group and be based out of chicago. that group will feature some original members including GG SHINN, featured vocalist, dennis johnson bass, et al. check out the CHASE facebook page to stay in touch w/ all things CHASE

Trumpet players take note: no sheet music. Memorization is the key to making music.
