Being from AL, we had very few local bands worth a damn. There was some good shit like the Knockabouts and Ether Dogs, look them up. We had to do serious ;eg work to go to shows or find music. It wasn't so much East,West, Boston, etc. However, after finding out about Portland and Poison Idea specifically,it was all over with. The misanthropic feeling of Poison Idea's music is the soundtrack for the dead city of Birmingham and the ongoing disparity of conscious southerners.Cheers!
I have to respect the Poison Idea fans that appreciate the job that Pantera did covering this. For some reason a lot of fans take great offense to other bands covering their favourite songs. Why? Not sure.. IMO a cover shows a lot of respect to the people who created the original.
Lol. Before I came on to this I knew people would be talking shite about Pantera or Poison Idea. My predictions were right!! Seriously though, why don't we all just shut up and listen? People arguing all the time here. We should be at peace!!
I just now found out that Pantera's version was the cover, so I had to hear the original, and I've got to say that I like this one a lot in a different way. This sounds messy and old school hardcore punk, and I love music like that. I like both versions a lot in different ways.
Eh, I like the Pantera version more myself, but that doesn't mean its better. Its the same song, but different. I don't see the need in starting shit-fights over intangible things.
Ya know what?I wrote this fuckin song and I like Pantera, but I also like The Smiths, Dock Boggs,GISM,Syd Barrett and The Felice Brothers. Point being,Good music is good music.Thats all. Jerry A. 2011.
@detrimental56 Mate, if you are indeed Jerry A... well said. But you can't reason with boneheads. And I'd like to thank you and the band for being there. I've been a fan for more than 20 years despite you buggers never coming to Australia (although a bunch of us did see you sing with the Hard Ons at the Big Day Out in Adelaide in 1992). Poison Idea set a very high bar for punk rock attitude and musicianship. Onya.
fuck Pantera, glam rock queers that jumped the thrash bandwagon too late. their cover of this song was a travesty. no Poison Idea, no thrash. no thrash, no Glamtera. FUCK the weak redneck bullshit that was Pantera. Poison Idea OWNS them any day of the week.
"I dont think any of us would even know about this song if we didnt hear their version first."
Definitely not true. A friend of mine recorded for me onto a cassette (thats what we did before mp3s and computers) a bunch of Poison Idea songs in 93. The Badge caught my interest and stuck out from the other songs on that comp. A year later I heard my sister blasting the Pantera version from her room, probably because she had heard me blasting the Poison Idea version from mine so many times.
@MrKatana1100sz Combined, Tom and Jerry A were about 850 pounds. I'm not sure most stages would hold much more than that. Adding Tad, may have been a tad too much.
@MrKatana1100sz I can assure you, you would have been more than welcome on the couch in the basement. Tom was generous with all his fans. I remember when Jerry went to Australia.. Tom actually hated touring because he would always get sick at every other town they would stop in. He never got to do any sightseeing because they were always on a tight schedule. Yeah, I loved Tom. He was a real gentleman. He rewponded to a lot of people in Australia. He knew you guys were there.
Tom Roberts aka Pig Champion was my roommate for the last ten years of his life. I discovered him dead the morning of January 331, 2006.
The band practiced in our basement and produced their on label, management, production and marketing. They toured the world even when they had habits to contend with. Tom was a very generous, respectful guy. He was very moral but yet self-destructive. Jerry was the same way. I don't know if you know but Slayer is in the pen on an armed robbery attempt.
people say that the Pantera version is better but it is not. It sounds better becasue it is better produced and mixed PLUS Pantera is metal and Poison Idea is punk.
@dstone1st I mean on a song about crooked facsit cops... why are we not talking about that? Instead of PI vs Pantera. Where are the real hardcore punks these days?
Hmm... lots of people barking about the origninal vs Pantera. And yeah cool, lots of pro PI comments.
But come on... this is a song about how facist pigs suck. Get with it. Lets do some cop and authority bashing that is what this song and HxC is all about. Talk about a wasted oppertunity.

@humanremains2 little late on that comment, bud? lol...laugh if you must, but it's my opinion. i respect yours, and the one thing im asking you to do is respect mine =P.
I remember being in 6th grade back in '96 when I first heard this song played by Pantera off the Crow soundtrack and thirteen years later I find out it's a cover. Makes me wonder what the hell else I may be oblivious to.
fuckin classic. love the pantera's cover, really. two amazing versions of the same song. really fuckin great punk rock. and i hate almost 90% of punk pussy rock.
@jakenfriedlove that in my modest opinion - its just mine, im not a dictator or some like that - i think that most punk rock sucks. pussy punk rock. as any genre you can cut 95% and save the rest, I THINK, but its mine way of thinkin. no problem if someone love everyfuckinsong in a music genre. i used to listen everything, and then i choose whats better and what not good for me. im so fuckin clear. cheers man, ciao
@adri2771 wow, you have no clue. if it wasnt for punk, metal wouldnt have even gotten extreme. a shit ton of metal bands are inspired by hardcore punk, especially discharge and shit. i wouldnt call punk pussy at all cuz their is some pretty fucking extreme punk out their
@adri2771 it's really a sign of patheticness when your only reference to this song is a Pantera cover, keep your mall-metal nonsense out of this. This is Hardcore music tried and tried and true; false metal can die.
patheticness? why? the fuck are you sayng? mall metal nonsense? this is real hard core, and i know it. in the past times i used to tell people like you: what a jerk are you? but now im not rude, and i dislike to insult people, really. so i tell simply: don't tell stupid things. i love real MUSIC, no matter if some people say mall metal or tried tried tried hard core. i simply love real badass music. from john zorn to diamanda galas and all in between. so long, bye, ciao
@GetgreeD maybe yes man, but i don't want to talk about labels and categories in particular. im talkin about "good and evil, right and wrong (music in this case)". ok, just jokin; im usin' some parts from a bush senior speech that i found on a ministry song. aniway Punk Rock is a great music genre, and if you find the very best of it it's even better.
@GetgreeD er...I think you'll find that the Roman Empire, if anything, is the root of fascism...all it is is the power of the state over the people, I don't see what categorization has to do with anything...
@adri2771 what do you mean by 'puck pussy rock'? My tastes have broadened so much with punk lately, that I think pretty much all of it's good apart from the commercial pop punk shite made by those winy girly men
@SROCeallaigh just that 90% of punk rock to me sucks hard. TO ME. it's just my opinion, i don't want to harass nobody. for me you all can listen to polka 24/7, and i'll never still give a fuck. peace man
Heard this is the crow soundtrack as a kid. Thought PanterA wrote it but Someone on youtube posted a comment claiming "Poison Idea" as the original writers.
I am diggin' the band for sure. Poison Idea rocks the shit. 5/5 as usual for these guys

I remember being in 6th grade back in '96 when I first heard this song played by Pantera off the Crow soundtrack and thirteen years later I find out it's a cover. Makes me wonder what the hell else I may be oblivious to.

fuckin classic. love the pantera's cover, really. two amazing versions of the same song. really fuckin great punk rock. and i hate almost 90% of punk pussy rock.
adri2771 2 years ago 19
@adri2771 pussy? what the fuck are you talking about
jakenfriedlove 1 year ago
@jakenfriedlove that in my modest opinion - its just mine, im not a dictator or some like that - i think that most punk rock sucks. pussy punk rock. as any genre you can cut 95% and save the rest, I THINK, but its mine way of thinkin. no problem if someone love everyfuckinsong in a music genre. i used to listen everything, and then i choose whats better and what not good for me. im so fuckin clear. cheers man, ciao
adri2771 1 year ago
@adri2771 wow, you have no clue. if it wasnt for punk, metal wouldnt have even gotten extreme. a shit ton of metal bands are inspired by hardcore punk, especially discharge and shit. i wouldnt call punk pussy at all cuz their is some pretty fucking extreme punk out their
morethanfights 1 year ago
@adri2771 it's really a sign of patheticness when your only reference to this song is a Pantera cover, keep your mall-metal nonsense out of this. This is Hardcore music tried and tried and true; false metal can die.
Mahmood42978 1 year ago
patheticness? why? the fuck are you sayng? mall metal nonsense? this is real hard core, and i know it. in the past times i used to tell people like you: what a jerk are you? but now im not rude, and i dislike to insult people, really. so i tell simply: don't tell stupid things. i love real MUSIC, no matter if some people say mall metal or tried tried tried hard core. i simply love real badass music. from john zorn to diamanda galas and all in between. so long, bye, ciao

@adri2771 categorizing... root of all facism, isnt it?!
GetgreeD 1 year ago
@GetgreeD maybe yes man, but i don't want to talk about labels and categories in particular. im talkin about "good and evil, right and wrong (music in this case)". ok, just jokin; im usin' some parts from a bush senior speech that i found on a ministry song. aniway Punk Rock is a great music genre, and if you find the very best of it it's even better.
adri2771 1 year ago
@GetgreeD er...I think you'll find that the Roman Empire, if anything, is the root of fascism...all it is is the power of the state over the people, I don't see what categorization has to do with anything...
SROCeallaigh 11 months ago
@adri2771 what do you mean by 'puck pussy rock'? My tastes have broadened so much with punk lately, that I think pretty much all of it's good apart from the commercial pop punk shite made by those winy girly men
SROCeallaigh 11 months ago
@SROCeallaigh just that 90% of punk rock to me sucks hard. TO ME. it's just my opinion, i don't want to harass nobody. for me you all can listen to polka 24/7, and i'll never still give a fuck. peace man
adri2771 11 months ago
Heard this is the crow soundtrack as a kid. Thought PanterA wrote it but Someone on youtube posted a comment claiming "Poison Idea" as the original writers.
I am diggin' the band for sure. Poison Idea rocks the shit. 5/5 as usual for these guys
